Even though this was unplanned, I’m still happy

Summary:

Audrey announces she’s pregnant to Seymour, a pregnancy that couldn’t have came at a worse time

Work Text:

Audrey already knew she was pregnant, call it woman’s intuition but she knew it deep down. Also because she missed her period and was constantly nauseous. She didn’t want to tell Seymour because she didn’t want to cause his any stress or worry if she was wrong. Seymour was out of a job and they were finding it pretty hard to make end’s meet so if they were gonna have a baby it would make everything worse.

It’s not that Seymour and Audrey didn’t want to have kids because they really do, especially Audrey, but it wasn’t the best time to start a family with little to no money in the house. So when Audrey saw those two pink lines on the pregnancy test, her heart skipped a beat. She sat on the side of her bed in shock, trying to think of a way to tell her husband. But then all of a sudden, she heard footsteps coming towards their bedroom. Audrey panicked and hid the pregnancy test under her pillow and tried to act like everything was normal.

The door slowly opened and Seymour poke his head into the room. A grin grew on his face when he saw his wife sitting on the bed. Audrey smiled back. Seymour stepped into the bedroom with a glass filled with a light brown liquid.

“Are you feeling any better, Audrey?” Seymour asked as he walked up to her.

“A little. I haven’t threw up since this morning.”

“That’s good to hear. Well I brought you some ginger ale, hopefully this will settle your tummy a bit.” Seymour say the glass down on a coaster that sat on the bedside table right by Audrey.

“Thank you, Seymour. I really appreciate that.”

Seymour sat on the bed right next to Audrey. “Why did you change into your clothes today?”

“Oh, well since I was feeling better I thought I shouldn’t just lay in bed all day in my nightgown and get some house work done.”

“Audrey, you’re sick you shouldn’t be doing any work. You need to get as much rest as you can.”

The real reason Audrey got dressed was to go to the drugstore to buy the pregnancy test while Seymour was out job hunting.

“Did you find any places that are hiring?” Audrey asked.

Seymour shook his head. “Not a single place I went to was hiring. Maybe I’ll find one tomorrow, hopefully.”

Audrey eyes gather up with tears. “I’m so sorry, Seymour. I’m so sorry we’re in this mess.” Audrey blinked the tears out of her eyes and rolled down her cheeks.

“Oh, Audrey, don’t cry.” Seymour pulled his handkerchief out of his back pocket and handed it to Audrey and she grabbed it from his hands. “Everything will be okay. I know God’s got a plan for you and I and He’ll get us two out of this.”

Audrey wiped the tears off of her face as new ones came out. “We…we just have no money, Seymour. H-How are we ever gonna support a family.” Audrey realized what she said and her heart dropped to her stomach.

“Audrey, I’m sure I’ll find a job and we’ll get everything straightened out before we start to have kids. Right now we just have to worry about the two of us.”

Audrey crud even harder and covered her face with Seymour handkerchief. Seymour pulled Audrey into a hug and she cried on his shoulder. Seymour rubbed Audrey’s back and didn’t even care that she was getting his shirt wet with her tears.

It stayed like this for a while and it seemed this Audrey was never gonna stop crying. Seymour didn’t understand why Audrey was so upset because she was always so positive. Even when Seymour lost his job he had after they got married she was positive and when Seymour was worried she assured him everything would be alright. Then something hit Seymour like a bus.

Last week was supposed to be Audrey started her period, but Seymour can’t recall that happening. Usually Audrey gets horrible cramps and he’s the one who has to make her hot water bottles. Seymour also can’t recall seeing any tampon rappers in the trash can in their bathroom. Did Audrey miss her period? He thought he knew what was making Audrey so upset.

Seymour pulled himself off of Audrey. “Audrey, last week did your monthly come?”

Audrey just stared at Seymour, not knowing what to say.

“Audrey, did you just not have cramps or did you miss it.”

“Seymour, I…” Audrey cried even harder.

“Please, sweetheart, just answer it. Did your monthly come or not?”

Audrey closed her eyes and held her head down. “It didn’t come, Seymour.”

Seymour placed a hand on his wife’s shoulder. “Audrey, is there something you want to tell me?”

Audrey wiped more tears off of her cheeks than reached under her pillow. Then came out a small, white stick with a pink top. She handed it to Seymour.

Seymour took it from her hands but was hesitant to look at it. “Is this a pregnancy test?” He questioned. Audrey nodded her head. Seymour looked down at the test and his eyes widen in shock.

Audrey was expecting for Seymour to be mad about this. She expected him to throw the test across the room in a rage, to curse himself out for not being able to get a job to provide for this kid, to yell at Audrey. But what Audrey was most worried about, was him forcing her to terminate the pregnancy. But instead, Seymour smiled.

“We’re having a baby?” Seymour questioned as he looked up at Audrey who was still crying.

Audrey nodded her head as she wiped more tears off her face. “You’re happy?”

“Well of course I’m happy. I’m going to be a father. This is amazing.”

Audrey sniffled her nose. “I thought you would be angry because of our circumstances right now. We don’t have money to raise a child right now.”

“Audrey, we’re going to be okay. I should have a job by the time the baby comes. And besides, money isn’t what matters. As long as we love this child and raise he or she right they’ll turn out just fine. We’ll get by, I promise you.”

Audrey wiped the last remaining tears on her face and grinned.

“You know, Audrey, this may be the happiest day of my life. Even though this was unplanned, I’m still happy. I just can’t believe I’m going to be a dad. I never thought I would be, let alone the mother of my child being you.”

“I’m happy too, Seymour. I’m happy that the father of my child is you, the sweetest man I know.”

“I love you more than anything, my sweetheart.” Seymour leaned in and kissed Audrey on the cheek.

“Come on, Seymour, you can do better than that.” Audrey said jokingly.

Seymour chuckled a little bit then leaned in to kiss Audrey on her red lips.
