Chapter 1: Something on my mind

Chapter Text

It was all very overwhelming at the start but also incredibly exciting. Max could not wait until next classes and what spells and knowledge he will be able to learn. His few first classes gave him so much joy he instantly joined the Duelling Club that Sebastian introduced him to. Speaking of the Slytherin boy, Max enjoyed his company but he was feeling that something sad hides under the dashing smile. The boy’s eyes have sadness in them when he isn’t focusing on mischiefs or thinks no one is watching him. He didn’t want to ask personal questions, if the boy ever wants to tell him something he will. After their first adventure in to the Restricted Section of library he knew he is going to end up in so much trouble if the keeps befriending Sebastian, but how could he not to. There was something alluring and mysterious about him. Besides he has the most gorgeous person as best friend that Max ever met.

Ominis Gaunt was simply stunning and breathtaking. Max could stare into his unseeing eyes for hours; they were like a galaxy made of pale green aventurine. The first time he looked into them he knew they captured his soul; he couldn’t speak for what felt like a lifetime. The fact that it happened during classes was unlucky because he forgot the answer he was supposed to give the professor. He wanted to talk to the boy after classes but he was pulled aside and jumped by other Hufflepuffs panicking that he almost lost them some points. At that time he didn’t give a damn about the points he just wanted to rush after the blond boy. He didn’t. After that he was trying to avoid him because his heart was always racing in his chest and he couldn’t collect his thoughts properly.

No matter how big the school is there was no running away from the blond Slytherin. Sooner or later he would have to somehow confront him, especially after becoming closer friends with Sebastian. Their first real meeting was a disaster. He just stepped outside from Undercroft after Sebastian shown it to him and shared some of his secrets.

Max was starring right into those beautiful orbs and he knew there is no point in lying, Ominis will know the truth. He wouldn’t want to lie to him either way. However he promised to Sebastian that he will not tell Ominis but he would rather ask him for forgiveness later. He bit his lip almost drawing blood when he watched the other blond angrily stepping into the Undercroft passage.

“Max, please be more careful with the brush, his fur is very sensitive”. Poppy was standing behind him instructing him how to properly brush Kneazles. “Maybe we should name him Max? His fur is the same blond color as your hair.” She smiled and scratched Kneazle’s head.

“Maybe, or …never mind” He quickly closed his mouth before saying something embarrassing. He was thinking about Ominis blond locks, he was sure they were very soft and smelled like fresh seawater. He wasn’t sure why. He whined when Poppy tapped him on the head, he looked up and she had the look on her face. The I know something is on your mind look; he sighed and put away the brush. He grabbed her by the hem of the robe and pulled away from the fences and other students. He told her everything, about his crush on Ominis and that he might have angered him unintentionally, leaving the details, and he wasn’t sure how to make it right.

“You are friends with Sebastian aren’t you? Maybe ask him what Ominis likes and buy him a gift from Hogsmeade?” She offered and he was much temped to do so but he wasn’t sure how Sebastian will react. He was being very protective of his best friend, especially when someone was trying to hit on him. The thought make him clenched his teeth so hard his jaw hurt, he was being jealous for no reason. He knew he shouldn’t. He will do what Poppy suggested, she is his most trusted ally in the school.

“I will, thank you Poppy, you are the best.” He gave her a hug that almost knocked cracked her ribs. She giggled and brushed his blond locks away from his eyes.
