Work Text:

“Seb! You in there?!” Jenson yelled from outside of Sebastian’s dorm.

Silence.

Great. Just great! Jenson was supposed to go on a date with his boyfriend almost ten minutes ago, instead, he was waiting outside said boyfriend’s dorm room waiting for any sign of life. He wasn’t mad, just worried. Seb usually wasn’t late for things, why was he now?

”Okay I’m coming! Sorry!” Seb yelled from inside the room.

After waiting another minute in front of the dorm, the door swung open.

”I’m so sorry liebling!” Seb rushed out,

”I was listening to music while studying, but I was so tired so I decided to take a nap, but I forget to take my headphones off and I couldn’t hear you knocking,”

”No problem mate. Though I think we might be a little late for our date,”

Sebastian’s eyes widened with shock. His jaw also slightly dropped

He really wasn’t good at hiding his thoughts was he?

“Don’t worry love, I’m sure we’ll make it on time!” Jenson hurriedly replied at Seb’s reaction. He grabbed Sebastian’s hand and started walking with him down the halls.

All their friends knew about their relationship. Jenson didn’t care what others thought about him, Seb on the other hand was a bit insecure. He loved Jenson with all his heart, but he couldn’t help but think about strangers looking at him, whispering behind his back, making fun of him. It all just reminded him of when he was bullied as a kid. Seb really tried to show his love for Jenson in ways that weren’t grandiose, but in his mind, nothing seemed to work.

The pair continued to walk until they got to the parking lot. Jenson got into the drivers seat of his car while Sebastian sat opposite of him.

”Alright, ready to go?” Jenson asked,

”Yeah,”

Jenson started the car and drove forward. He turned on the radio. Some Beatles song was playing. This wasn’t exactly his type of music but he knew how much Seb loved the band. He once got Seb a vinyl record for his birthday.

They both listened to the music while nodding their heads to the rhythm of the song. They had both been friends in high school but things didn’t actually start to change until they went to college. Somehow they just got really close.

Really close.

Sebastian looked at the time on his phone.

“I’m really sorry for making us late liebling. I was just so tired and- now I’m making excuses for everything. Mein gott, I’m so sor-”

”Hey!” Jensen interrupted,

”It really is no big deal. I would never lie to you darling. Plus I might’ve booked the reservation a little later just in case this happened. We still have ten minutes to get there. No worrying, okay?”

”Okay,” Sebastian replied still frowning,

”You’re going to love it Seb. I swear, it’s better than anything I’ve ever had. We’re going to eat some super awesome food tonight, then I’m going to take you back to my house, and then I’m going to make love to you!” Jenson said confidently,

”Jenson!”

Sebastian sounded like a teacher scolding their student. It made Jenson laugh. He looked over to see a blush creeping up Seb’s face.

Jenson loved the fact that he could make Seb like this. Turn him into a blushing mess. One of his proudest abilities if you asked him.

———

Jenson was actually perfect. The way he could flip Sebastian’s mood like it was nothing. Seb knew he was blushing, but he didn’t mind, it was only Jenson in the car anyways.

As they pulled out into the parking lot of the restaurant, Seb took his time looking at its exterior. It really was beautiful. It was made of beautiful smooth stone. Seb wondered how much Jenson had paid for this experience. Clearly not that much as they were still on a college budget, but Jenson did live a pretty comfortable lifestyle. Seb was pulled out of his thoughts when Jensen got out of the car and opened Seb’s door for him.

”After you M’Lady,” Jenson said with a wink.

Sebastian couldn’t help but laugh at that. He left the car and started walking into the restaurant with Jenson. When they got inside Sebastian looked around wide-eyed. Everything was beautiful. The walls were black stone, and the lighting was dim. There were also beautiful paintings and plants everywhere.

Jenson was chatting with the receptionist as Seb looked around.

”Yup we’re reservation 5,” Jenson said cheerily,

”Alright. I can show you to your seats then. Right this way,” the lady responded.

Jenson tapped Seb’s shoulder and got his attention back on him.

”Are you coming or what?” Jenson chuckled.

They both walked to the small table in the corner of the restaurant. Jenson pulled out Seb’s chair and waited for him to sit down before sitting in his own.

“You are such a gentleman Jense.”

”Ah it’s nothing Seb. Isn’t this how you’re supposed to treat your beautiful, talented, perfect date?”

”I-um, Jenson, I-“ Seb stuttered.

He didn’t really know how to reply to Jenson. Was he really all those things? Did Jenson really mean it or was he just saying that because they were in public? What was he supposed to do!?

“Alright so here are your menus. My name is Alexa and I’ll be your server today. Our special today is our Lemon garlic pan-seared salmon. Would you like any drinks to start with?”

Sebastian looked up to see the young waitress. He was so thankful he didn’t actually have to reply to Jenson’s comment.

“I’ll just have the peach lemonade. You Seb?”

”Um, I guess I’ll have an Aperol Spritz then,” Seb replied confidently.

He didn’t drink often, especially not with the little amount of money in his bank account. But tonight he just wanted to relax a bit and hang out with Jenson. One small drink wasn’t the end of the world.

”Alright great choices. I’ll be back with your drinks in just a minute,”

The waitress finished writing on her small notepad and walked off.

”The Aperol Spritz isn’t a problem right? I just wanted a small drink,” Seb said sheepishly,

”Of course it’s not a problem love, you could’ve ordered five beers and I wouldn’t complain. I unfortunately won’t be drinking tonight though seeing as I’m going to drive us home,”

”Only five beers? Really? Six to much?” Seb joked.

”You cheeky thing. Do you know what you want to order?”

”I think I’m gonna get the escargot and the Penne alla vodka. You?”

”Hmmm, the salmon looks really good, I’m gonna get that,”

Their drinks came only a couple minutes after they had decided on their orders. The pair told  the waitress their order and she was off into the kitchen again. Seb took a sip of his drink, it was great. Drinking alcohol really wasn’t something he did a lot but it was a nice treat here and there. They both chatted about school work and friends until their food came out.

“Here are your orders, this is the escargot and penne alla vodka,”

She looked at Seb and placed the food in front of him. It smelled amazing.

”And this is the lemon-garlic salmon! Please enjoy your food, if there’s anything you need please do tell me.”

After a couple seconds of silence she turned around and went to help out another table.

“Ready to dig in?” Jensen questioned,

”Yeah!”

Sebastian took one bite of both dishes and instantly fell in love. The pasta was creamy and rich while the escargot was smooth and buttery.

“Ohmygod this is amazing liebling!” Seb said with a mouthful of his food.

”I’m glad you like it love,” Jenson replied with a smile.

They continued chatting and eating until they both finished their meals. The waitress also returned once they finished.

“Alrighty how was everyone’s meal today? All good?”

”It was incredible, thank you so much Alexa,” Jenson said,

”Oh it really is no problem, I’m glad you enjoyed your meals. Would you like any dessert?”

Jenson eyed Seb, silently asking if he wanted anything.

“Can we get a slice of plain cheesecake?”

”Of course you can. I’ll be back shortly!”

When the slice of cheesecake came back, Sebastian and Jenson decided to share it. Once again, it was delicious. Jenson paid for both their meals, despite Sebastian begging to pay for his half. It really wasn’t anything Jenson couldn’t afford, but Seb just wanted to show his love for Jenson. Once again failing. He failed to meet Jenson on time and there wasn’t really a way to make up for it. Once they had left the restaurant, they decided to go on a walk through town.

The street lights were dimly lit and there weren’t many people around. Sebastian felt something rising in his chest as they walked. A feeling of comfort and bravery. He mustered up all his confidence, reached his hand out, and grabbed Jenson’s hand tightly.

Jenson looked up at Seb shocked, Sebastian usually never initiated such a public display of affection. Jenson never minded, he knew Seb was a bit shy and self conscious, but he definitely enjoyed this new found confidence.

”Seb?” He asked calmly,

Seb stopped walking. The streets weren’t crowded so Sebastian turned his body to look at Jenson.

”Jenson, I just, I just wanted you to know that I love you,”

“What do you mean darling?”

”Well, you, you’re always being so nice, and you always compliment me and I never really know what to say. I just want you to know that I’m not ashamed of us. I love us and I want everyone to know that. I don’t know why I feel weird about it. You never complain and I just don’t want to feel like a burden all the time.”

Jensen looked Sebastian in the eyes.

”Oh Seb, you could never be a burden. I don’t ever want to pressure you into doing something you don’t want to in public. I know how you feel about this stuff and I never want you to get upset okay? You are perfect the way you are, you hear me?”

”Thank you so much for tonight Jense, I mean it. I’m really sorry for the start though. Is there anything I can do to make up for it?”

“Sebastian, I told you, you don’t have to worry about waking up late. This date was absolutely perfect. There’s nothing you need to make up for. But…”

Sebastian eyed Jenson carefully,

”I could think of a few things we could do tonight that would make both of happy,”

”Do these plans include a bed?”

”Maybe.”

Sebastian laughed and bit his lip, then promptly pushed himself up to kiss Jenson.

They were perfect just the way they were. Seb didn’t care what others thought anymore. As long as Jenson loved him, that was all that mattered.
