The Pieces Fall Together

Summary:

Class 1-A has a monthly get together Karaoke night at Mixin’ Pixie’s Bar. It’s a regular event they’ve hosted since they graduated going on six years now, and it’s usually used as a catch-up night where they get drunk and sing goofily together. But this month, Izuku has to explain the ending of his relationship and how his ex, Shouto, is already in a new one.

Or

Izuku gets drunk and tells everyone that Shouto broke up with him through Wasting All These Tears by Cassadee Pope, then he runs into Hitoshi and slips up. But he’s back at the next monthly karaoke night despite his best attempts at avoiding everyone.

Notes:

There will be more to this, it's just a short start to a potential series!

This is my first IzuToshi fic, sorry it's so short, but I hope you enjoy this fic!!

Work Text:

“And you left me standing on a corner crying. Feeling like a fool for trying, I don't even remember why I'm wasting all these tears on you.” sang Izuku forlornly as Shouto stood, Inasa’s arm around his waist as he guided them to the door, disdain in his eyes. “I wish I could erase our memory, ‘cause you didn't give a damn about me. Oh, finally I'm through, wasting all these tears on you.”

Izuku sings the pain away as the song nears its end, feeling a sense of calm filling him as he pours all of his hurt out at their monthly class Karaoke night. He did this to explain why Shouto was with Inasa now, to explain why, two days after he left Izuku crying in the middle of the sidewalk outside of his and Katsuki’s agency, he was snuggling and kissing Inasa publicly. He feels the pain fall down his cheeks in salty tears as he thinks of how he should’ve known this would happen.

“I tried to find you at the bottom of the bottle, laying down on the bathroom floor.” finished Izuku quietly, wiping his tears as he drunkenly stepped off the platform stage, stumbling into someone in his attempt to make it back to his table. He could hear his classmates cheering him on. “Sorry ‘bout tha’ … I didn’ see you.”

“Yeah, Zu, I know. Time to get you home.” came a deep voice he recognized, and Izuku straightened up, swaying lightly to find Hitoshi looking at him, amusement to find Hitoshi looking at him, amusement sparkling in his pretty eyes. “Can I take you to your apartment?”

“Any time, Toshi, I’ll always say yes to you.” slurred Izuku as he fell into Hitoshi, looping his arms clumsily around his neck. “Take me home, sexy!”

There were cheers, gasps, and rowdy laughter, but Izuku’s eyes were locked on the pretty flush on Hitoshi’s cheeks. He remembers that when he woke up.

He does not remember how he made it home or into his bed still dressed in the tight black, ripped denim jeans and green button down that Mina forced him to wear alongside his combat boots that Katsuki practically shoved his feet into.

Izuku groaned as he remembered what he said to Hitoshi.

“You’re finally awake, good! Get your ass in here and clean this damn mess up!” barked Katsuki, loudly, from the doorway, bringing bright light in to irritate Izuku’s pounding head.

“Kacchan, my head hurts!” whined Izuku pitifully as he brings his comforter over his face.

“And you puked in our kitchen.” snapped Katsuki irritatedly and Izuku is suddenly face-to-face with the gremlin that is his childhood best friend, roommate, hero partner, and agency co-owner as he glares down at him. “Get your ass into that kitchen and clean up your mess, or I’m not making your fuckin’ hangover pancakes.”

“But Kacchan! You promised hangover pancakes before you dragged me out last night!” whined Izuku as he pouted.

“And you promised not to get shitfaced. Get your ass up.” snapped Katsuki glaring even though he looks like he wants to laugh at Izuku’s misery.

“Alright, alright, I’m getting up… wait, did you bring me home last night?” asked Izuku as he slowly pushed himself up as Katsuki drags his blanket to the end of his bed. “Hey! I gotta remake it now, Kacchan! Ugh!”

“No, I came home early. I did get your performance of Cassadee Pope sent to me in pristine video form thanks to sober Ei. But Eyebags brought you home, passed you off to me so he could go because he got called in, and I brought you to your room. Only you left your room sometime in the span of fifteen minutes and puked your guts out in our kitchen.” explained Katsuki with an impatient tap of his foot as he looked at Izuku with an ‘I told you so’ smirk.

“Fuck off, Kacchan.” grumbled Izuku as he forced himself into a standing position, vision swimming momentarily before he felt stable again. “I’ll clean the kitchen.

“Damn right, you’ll clean the kitchen. The hell d’ya take me for? A maid? Stupid nerd.” grumbled Katsuki as he followed Izuku out of his room before veering down the hall to his own room. “Yell when you’re done, and I’ll come make breakfast.”

Izuku didn’t bother responding, just moving and cleaning his mess in a mental spiral of curiosity. The only way to get answers is to find his phone and ask Eijirou to send him the video or asking Katsuki if he can send it to him. He cannot ask Hitoshi anything… ever.

“I made Ei send the video to you, can I cook now?” asked Katsuki as he announced his presence with a bored tone, pulling a screech from Izuku who clutched at his chest. “Don’t you have danger sense? Do they get a kick out of me scaring your ass all the time? Stop zoning out in my kitchen.”

“Kacchan, you’re an ass.” snapped Izuku with a pout before he straightened out, determined to make Katsuki promise him something. “You can’t ever let me go to another karaoke night, Kacchan.. No, don’t even let me drink again, ever!”

“I can tell you I won’t let you go, but you’re going to end up going again. You’re a friendly nerd who can’t miss a single reunion night.” replied Katsuki with a knowing arch of his brow.

And, of course, Izuku winds up at the next monthly Karaoke night alongside Katsuki.

“Stop whining, nerd, you’re the one who couldn’t say no to sparky.” says Katsuki as he meets Izuku’s horrified look with a deadpan look of his own.

“But you’re the one who never does anything he doesn’t want to. You hate these things!” argues Izuku with a whine, nerves searing through him as they approach their classmates, and he catches sight of Shouto leaning into Inasa as his large form towers over everyone.

“I wanted to see my boyfriend. Ei’s the only reason I come to these things. But I won’t be letting you drink, ‘cause if you do, you’re going home with someone else.” says Katsuki in a low tone as he steers them down the string of tables to where the Bakusquad has saved them seats.

As Izuku sits down, he notices they’re missing someone, so he nudges Denki and asks, “Where’s Toshi?”

Denki just grins wide, winks at Izuku, and he says, “He’s around.”

Izuku opens his mouth to question him further, but Denki is already tuned back into his conversation with Momo and Sero.

“I know everybody wants you, that ain’t no secret. Hey baby, what’s your status? And tell me are ya tryna keep it?” sings Kyoka, drawing everybody’s attention to the karaoke stage as the whistles begin, but then Izuku startles at a tap on his shoulder.

He turns in his chair to see Hitoshi crouching in denim jeans and a sexy, slightly unbuttoned, floral-patterned button down, and his jaw drops.

“I can’t sing, but she owed me a favor… can I have this dance, Izu?” asks Hitoshi as the music slows and so does Kyoka with a saucy wink in their direction when they glance her way.

“Absolutely, Toshi, I’d love to dance with you.” replies Izuku, slipping out of his chair as Hitoshi stands, taking a step back to give him space, and he takes the outstretched hand waiting for him.

“So baby, I’ll take whatever it is you’ve got to give. Yeah, I’m calling dibs.” sings Kyoka as Hitoshi and Izuku make it onto the dance floor with the small crowd of people dancing, Hitoshi’s hands find Izuku’s waist as he lays his on Hitoshi’s shoulder.

“So, you wanna tell me what all this is about?” asks Izuku softly as he loops his arms around Hitoshi’s neck, pressing closer to him as their faces lean against each other.

“Probably the same reason you’ve been ducking me since last karaoke night if I read this right. You skipped brunch all month, Izu.” replies Hitoshi lightly, breath ghosting over Izuku’s ear as they sway together.

“I need you to say it, for me to believe that this is actually happening right now.” says Izuku quietly in the space between them, only having eyes for Hitoshi, pleading for this to be real.

“Izuku, bunny, I really, really like you. Would you want to have dinner next Friday and catch the All Might movie marathon at the drive-in theatre after, for our first date?” asks Hitoshi genuinely, nerves raking through his voice as he looks at Izuku openly, hopefully.

“I would love that because I really, really like you too, Hitoshi.” replies Izuku happily, barely holding back the excited squeal building in his throat.

“It’s a date.” says Hitoshi with a light chuckle, boyish grin melting Izuku.

“God, that grin should be illegal.” mumbles Izuku as he feels himself flush, eyes dropping to look at Kyoka past Hitoshi’s shoulder as she sings through the final parts of the song.

“And your mumbles should be too, but thankfully that’s not how it works.” replies Hitoshi in amusement as the song ends.

“This was extremely sweet, Toshi, and I absolutely loved it.” says Izuku as they stop moving, reluctantly separating.

“You deserve sweet things, and I-" Hitoshi’s interrupted by his phone beeping, and he curses quietly as he pulls it out and reads the notification. “And I just got called in. I gotta go, but I’m glad you liked it. I’ll text you about brunch, can’t wait for next Friday! Have fun tonight.”

Hitoshi turns and makes his way through the crowd, but Izuku’s quick to follow him, catching his wrist before he makes it to the door.

“Izu, wha-?” asks Hitoshi before he gasps as Izuku leans up on his tiptoes to brush a light kiss to his cheek.

Before he heads back to their classmates, Izuku whispers, “Be safe.”

Hitoshi nods before he leaves the bar, looking a little dazed as he goes.

As Izuku joins his friends again, he feels happier than he’s felt since he and Shouto broke up. And he’s got a date with the man he’s had feelings for since UA. He’s on top of the world, and he’s so glad Hitoshi is right there with him.
