Chapter Text
Kim was happy - elated - some could even say - over the moon...
Not that he would – that wasn’t his style.
But damn for the first time in a long time he felt good!
The past few months with Porchay had been smooth – wonderfully so. After finally getting Chay to talk to him again - thanks to singing his heart out and hoping Chay would know he meant it this time, Kim had managed to get Chay to open up to him. No – more than that. Kim had managed to get his sorry excuse of a soul another chance at happiness with the boy he loved.
A chance he had no intention of losing a second time, even if his life depended on it.
And sweet Chay was sunshine. Whereas Kim - Kim was the nearly blackened sunflower that had - with every last ounce of strength left in him - managed to turn his face back to that precious sun the second it shined its light on him again after what felt like the harshest of winters…
They started out small – short coffee dates that turned into a movie that turned into outings here and there. Kim took Chay out of the compound for whatever reason he could make up - determined to make sure Chay had some fun, especially after being cooped up in his room for weeks because he hadn’t been interested in going out - first because of Kim and then later because of the number of guards required now to keep him safe - no thanks to Porsche and his own family.
Kim had learned during this time a very important fact…
Chay felt safe with Kim.
Despite all the pain and the lies and heartache Kim had caused, despite still not wanting to touch a guitar – Chay had told Kim that with him he felt like he could live in this new world and not just exist. That realization by Chay had been their turning point… and those small outings had evolved into something more, so much more…
Chay would swing by the studio to just sit with him. He’d told Kim he found it peaceful and quiet in a way the compound never could be for him. And he could also avoid the guards… and his brother. If they were not at Kim’s studio they were at Kim’s penthouse where they simply existed – together. They even cooked for themselves – a new experience for Kim. Chay said he liked these times even more because he could be himself and not have to worry about people rushing to stop him or eyeing him weirdly for doing something as simple as making a cup of noodles for himself.
They eased into each other’s presence and Chay - instead of using Kim just to escape what his life had become - sought Kim out for friendship - comfort – companionship. Chay had yet to tell Kim that he loved him again even though Kim kept saying it every chance he could. But Kim understood that…
He would wait.
For Chay, he would do anything…
Their life together was starting anew… and every single moment of it was wonderful – a precious gift Kim would never allow to slip through his fingers again.
Despite his newfound inner happiness though, Kim was heading out of the studio in a somewhat somber mood. Chay had exams which meant he was staying at the compound to focus because - in Chay’s words - Kim was a major distraction - whatever that meant. All it meant to Kim was that he would be alone - no sun to warm him - and that just plain sucked.
Kim got into the sleek Maserati and powered it up - destination - his penthouse. He would have preferred to stay the night at the studio - get some work done - but he had promised Chay at the beginning of the week to take care of his own health - sleep and eat properly… and he had every intention of keeping every single promise he would ever make to Chay, including this one.
A few minutes into the drive, Kim’s instincts kicked in. He noticed he was being followed. A black cargo van was sticking with him at every turn and stop. In the beginning, Kim thought it was a paparazzi trying to catch a picture or some sort of scandal - if luck was on their side - as they had been going on and on about Kim dating a particular actress over the past week which had gotten a snide laugh out of Chay…
“Wait till they know you're dating me…” Chay had said, a bitter smirk on his lips.
“What’s wrong with that?” Kim had demanded right back. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You are my star and sky – my everything - way more important than any or all of those people they claimed I dated…”
Chay had blushed but said nothing…
Coming back to the present, Kim knew with a sinking heart that what was happening now though had nothing to do with pictures and dating rumors. This was far worse. Far more sinister. This was an attempted abduction… or worse. And things were not looking good.
Kim maneuvered and dodged, slowed, and sped up but the van stuck with him and any remaining ideas that this might be related to his day job dissolved. The driver of the van was clearly a professional and that meant mafia.
Kim changed lanes and changed lanes again. He swerved and turned and blew through more than one red light. As he drove - he dipped down, reaching under his seat to check for his gun. Once at hand, he reached for his cell. He needed to call the compound and let them know someone was tailing him. He picked up the phone and dialed the speed code, except that there was no reception. The van must have had some sort of jammer that was messing with his phone signal!
Kim cursed under his breath before trying to outmaneuver the van again…
After a few more turns - speed-ups - slowdowns and a hard right Kim came up against the unexpected. Another van. It had clearly been waiting for him. He’d been herded into their trap! Kim - with no options opened to him - became blocked between the two vans.
Gun gripped tightly in his hand - prepared to fight his way out - Kim took a swift second to shoot a short text to Khun with his other hand before quickly hiding his phone, hoping like hell it would reach his brother.
[SOS]
Taking a deep steadying breath, Kim got out of the car and in one smooth motion - lifted his arm and aimed his gun at the nearest man and shot - his aim true - except that the man was wearing a bulletproof body vest and though he stumbled back in the end it did not stop him and once again the man - along with several others - came directly for him. Kim cursed. It would have to be hand-to-hand combat then. So be it…
But luck was not on Kim’s side. Within seconds more than ten men had bounded out of the two vans and surrounded him. He fought - fought hard - fought dirty. He kicked – bit – maimed and even killed but it still was not enough.
And all it took was one little needle Kim did not expect nor see.
One of the bastards grabbed him in a chokehold giving another man time to jam a needle in his neck and plunge a burning fiery liquid into his body. Kim swayed on his feet even as his mind raged and his arms still swung. He blinked trying to clear his vision – the dipping and swaying of those who stood around him – frustrating him even more, making it difficult to know where to aim – where to kick – where to hurt.
Finally, for the briefest of moments his vision did clear - only enough though - enough for him to see one of the men remove his mask and smirk at him before Kim’s eyes finally closed and darkness overtook him…
