Work Text:

Jungkook is, for all intents and purposes, a KICKASS makeup artist, if he does say so himself. But it isn’t just Jungkook that thinks so, it’s the just shy of 7M subscribers on his beauty vlog, or all of idols that he’s tended to in secret (partly because he didn’t even know who they were, but that’s his secret to keep) - it was everyone who had ever crossed paths with Jungkook, unable to hide their wonder at the man’s craft.
Jungkook was content like this, constantly trying new things on his friends, on clients, on himself, even going so far as to walk around in a park looking for someone to be his muse once or twice, but to no avail (and no, he didn’t fail bc its creepy, shut up Yoongi-hyung).
In short, Jungkook was stuck in a rut. It wasn’t that he couldn’t work or that he didn’t have any ideas - those were still there, and Jungkook’s clients were still keeping him pretty busy, both regulars and new clients were constantly ringing up the salon to try and get a slot with Seoul’s hottest makeup artist. It was more that his work felt stale. Every look he worked on was going great, giving Jungkook that warm fuzzy feeling of a job well done, until it would inevitably fizzle out and turn into more of the same.
“You just need to stop being so hard on yourself, Jungkook-ah” Yoongi had said to him on the phone after another failed attempt at searching for a muse at the park.
“You don’t get it, hyung.” Jungkook grumbled at him, face half squished by a sofa cushion as he contemplated becoming one with said piece of furniture.
“I’m not insecure about my talent, I just don’t think I’m doing as well as I can.” Jungkook sighed, admitting it out loud was a little harder than it should be.
“Aah, it seems what you need is a change of perspective, my little prince.” Yoongi sounded like he was almost smirking (?). God, Jungkook was going to hate it when Yoongi gave him a solution and it worked, hated the bragging rights that would give his hyung, but he was desperate at this point, so he’d allow it.
“I’ll try anything, hyung. Hit me with it.” Jungkook answered too quickly, grateful that his hyung couldn’t see his face, hoping that his desperation wasn’t too obvious.
“I’m going to send a playlist over to you, Jungkook-ah, I want you to listen to it with an open mind. Do you think you can do that for me?”
Jungkook was surprised at Yoongi’s suggestion, expecting his proposed solution to be something more drastic than just “hey Jungkook listen to this playlist”, but he couldn’t pretend that the idea didn’t at least make him curious… What type of music could have an effect that magical?
A few hours later, Jungkook was trying (and failing) to distract himself while waiting for his hyung to send over the magic playlist, and managed to clean all of his makeup brushes, arrange his makeup by shade and then by amount of use, cleaned up his entire salon and apartment and was still waiting.
His hands itched to open up his phone and text (read: beg) Yoongi for an update for the fifth time in the last 20 minutes when finally his phone pinged with a new message notification.
“Here’s a playlist for you…Indigo by RM.”
Attached was a link and nothing else. No context, no information other than the album name and the artist, an abstract watercolor print on the cover.
Suddenly Jungkook felt nervous, something like anticipation unfurling in his stomach. What if this didn’t work? No, this was the same as whenever he was pulling a new makeup look - “you need to trust the process, Jungkook,” he said to himself. Looking through the tracklist, he realized that the album was not too long in length. 10 songs, 32 minutes, Jungkook could do that. He could let himself close his eyes and listen for 32 minutes.
Regretting his earlier decision to stress clean (mostly because it left him without anything else to do but hunker down and listen to the album), Jungkook puttered around his bedroom collecting pillows and blankets, wanting to create a comfy space to listen to the album in.
Jungkook plopped himself down onto the pile he had carefully created, happy enough with the results to focus on the important task at hand, picking a song. He could always listen to the album in order or click shuffle and let fate decide for him, but while looking at the songs he couldn’t help but wonder…Wild Flower? His fingers hovered above the play button. Ah, fuck it. Jungkook closed his eyes and clicked play and oh.
Oh.
The first fifteen seconds or so were a slow intro. The melody built up through Jungkook’s body. Attacking his senses from both sides, surrounding him and slowly taking over his body from the inside, thrumming through his veins. But what followed was probably the biggest surprise of Jungkook’s short life on this earth.
A voice, heavy, dripping syrup like honey pulled Jungkook in deeper, leaving the young stylist wondering whether it was possible to fall in love with a voice. God, if the first thirty seconds of the album were anything to go by, Jungkook owed Yoongi-hyung his life for bringing this mysterious man into it.
Oh no, the man of his dreams could sing AND rap. Jungkook was fucked. Eyes still closed, Jungkook started imagining every word, every beat turning into color, every verse into emotions - he felt dizzy with it, the sudden realization that the song was over becoming too much for him to deal with. Suddenly, Jungkook was parched. He felt like he had run a mile, cried his eyes out, laughed until his heart hurt, and had laid out in a field of flowers all at once. Fuck.
Jungkook opened his eyes and paused the music, wanting so badly to keep going, but knowing realistically that he needed a break to collect his thoughts.
He debated whether to continue or not, the idea of calling Yoongi to yell at him and accuse him of hiding the purest form of heaven he’s ever felt, but ultimately decided against it, his curiosity getting the best of him and his need to listen to that angel’s voice again trumping over anything else. Yelling at Yoongi-hyung can wait.
The next track that came on was a 180 turn from Wild Flower, starting out with another man’s voice, RM ad libbing in the background briefly, twenty seconds in, Jungkook was ready for horny jail, thirty seconds in it was somehow WORSE. RM was so amazing, he kept changing his own pacing, his rap rhythm commanding the song’s pace instead of the other way around. The song kept playing and Jungkook let himself be swayed by RM’s tone, his cadence, enamored by the rapper’s artistry already.
If the first two tracks had Jungkook’s heart pounding faster, then the third had it aching . Lonely. Even if Jungkook’s English wasn’t the best, he could make out most of the words just fine, filling in the blanks using RM’s voice, feeling it. His heart broke a little for the man. Jungkook had never met him before, fuck, he’d never even seen RM’s face, but he knew one thing for sure. Someone like RM with his lyrical ability, raw emotions, his talent in making a complete stranger connect with him so intimately, deserved nothing less than the best.
Taking a deep breath, Jungkook steadied himself as the song came to an end, preparing himself for what might come next. He stared at his phone, willing time to go faster and stand still at the same time before the next song, unsure if he could feel any more for this stranger with a beautiful soul. The word “Yun” showed up on the screen and Jungkook let out the breath he wasn’t aware he’d been holding.
Less than two minutes into the song, Jungkook had fallen all over again. The way RM spoke about art not just being something beautiful, but an expression of artists themselves made him feel some kind of way. He’d always known he felt personally about every single look he styled, regardless of the person it was for, but hearing those words something clicked into place. He was actually expressing a part of his own self through his makeup, his styling…wow. This stranger who had no idea Jungkook was even listening to his album still somehow knew just what to say - his heart skipped a beat.
Jungkook felt like a masochist, his heart clenching in pain at not knowing this beautiful stranger, not being able to give him the world like he deserves, but he was also so enamored, he wouldn’t stop , he couldn’t.
The next song thankfully gave him a small semblance of hope that the ache wouldn’t get worse. He recognized the other voice on the track right away, he’d styled Tablo before, one of the more reclusive members of Epik High (all information he’d learned from his Yoongi-hyung after the appointment with said artist). The song was nice, upbeat and powerful, both men trading strong verses back and forth, talking about making their own way. The idea made Jungkook feel endeared for some reason.
Hectic. The name of the next song. Yeah, that was a word that Jungkook was familiar with. His busy schedule was one of the things that Jungkook blames for the slump that he’s currently in, so many appointments and commitments filling in his every hour that he couldn’t find the time to get inspired again, to rest. This song felt familiar, the beat lulling Jungkook into what was probably a false sense of security where he didn’t feel as much heartache. He still sighed at the unknown of what RM’s hectic life could look like, hoping he gets enough rest.
The next song started out simple, a woman’s voice accompanied by a simple piano in the background. It almost felt like a different album until RM’s voice cut through the fog. Jungkook’s eyes closed again, encouraging him to take in the full experience, to allow himself to be carried by RM’s words.
Jungkook was jealous of the person lucky enough to cause this type of reaction from RM. He wanted to be that for him so badly, letting himself get caught up in the fantasy of not only meeting the artist, but becoming someone for him. He knew that whatever happened, even in his fantasies, he wouldn't let the other get away from him, would pull him closer and closer until the love that he had to give became theirs. If destiny said that love wasn't for them, then Jungkook would gladly fight the universe for someone so precious.
Torn away from his half jealous half lovesick fantasy, Jungkook discovered yet another upbeat song - Forg_tful. It was endearing how RM chose such an upbeat rhythm to talk about forgetting things in certain periods of his life, talks about absentmindedness and turns something that people don’t typically talk about into a conversation, aah he’s so talented Jungkook has to bite his lip to keep from squealing to himself like Park Hyungsik in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.
That need to show RM how sappy and happy Jungkook could be left as quickly as it came once the next song came on. A quick but wide-eyed look at Jungkook’s phone told him the song’s name, Change Pt. 2, and oh fuck, RM sounds almost aggressive…that’s, yup that’s a thought for later when Jungkook is getting ready for bed maybe?
After Jungkook’s back from his hornier thoughts, he realizes once again that the idol must have gone through a lot…Jungkook is no stranger to two-faced people and betrayal due to the industry he’s in, but…Jungkook was suddenly curious about the extent to which someone in RM’s position must have been put in, his heart aching again.
Luckily, he didn’t have too long to spend on that thought, as a song called No.2 started playing through his headphones. If the songs Jungkook listened to before were revolutionary, this song was everything that comes after it.
When the song stopped, everything went quiet for a bit. Jungkook had no idea that he’d already finished the playlist/album, too immersed in the experience to count the amount of songs he’d heard. It was beautiful. A masterpiece. There was something about this last song, though, that he needed to listen to again.
On the second play, Jungkook was able to really listen. Another listen. Then one more. The more Jungkook listened to the song, the more he felt a weight he’d had on his shoulders, one that he was unaware of, fall off. The song soothed Jungkook’s soul. It was somehow exactly what he needed, eyes closed again as the words washed over him, relief flooding his system and a smile on his face, Jungkook cried.
Hours went by with Jungkook in the same position. At first he let silence wash over him, the amount of loud thoughts in his head too large to let him dwell on that for too long, but after what felt like forever he finally took a deep breath, clicked play on the album again, and let RM’s dulcet tones drown them out.
Jungkook realized he didn’t even know what time it was and where he would usually be upset that he hadn’t gotten any planning done for his vlog, or figured out any new looks for his appointments, he felt peace, RM made him feel that. Feeling giddy with his newfound freedom from the guilt that he felt from not doing his best, he got out of bed with a smile still on his face and, for the first time in a month, sat down at his vanity to let his feelings guide him.
The next day, Jungkook went about his morning with an unusual pep in his step, having accomplished all of his morning tasks before noon with enough time to go grab some brekkie and banana milk as a reward on the way back from the gym. Scrolling through his notifications, he saw a new client notification pop up and clicked on it right away. Kim Namjoon, 28 years old, current hair color: blond (looking to change), makeup expectations: as long as my face doesn’t end up permanently different, we should be good ;).
Jungkook chuckled at the man’s last response, unused to this type of reply from his usually stiff or stuck up clientele. Sadly, the man, Namjoon, hadn’t attached a photo with his entry. Although Jungkook doesn’t technically require photographs from new clients before their first meeting, he was starting to regret leaving it up to them, curiosity about what the man looks like growing - purely professional curiosity, of course.
Pouting, Jungkook realized that he would have to wait almost two full days before he got to meet the man in his thoughts, it was only Thursday and the appointment was set for Saturday morning. His thoughts were interrupted by his phone ringing, a quick look down telling him it was his favorite hyung (well, Yoongi didn’t used to be his favorite, but as of exactly 24 hours ago, he could ask Jungkook for almost anything and he was sure his answer would be yes).
“Yoongi?” Suddenly remembering his anger from before, Jungkook continued, “Ah, I’ve been meaning to call you actually, because HOW DARE YOU - “
“Yaah, Jungkook-ah, after everything this hyung has done for you, this is how you pick up my calls?” The voice on the other end dared interrupt. Jungkook could hear his hyung chuckling on the other end of the phone, but decided to be nice just this once, it was the least he could do for the person who showed him the light (read: RM’s voice).
“Ah, hyuuuuungnimm, don’t say it like that!” Jungkook pulled out his best pout, knowing that the older one would be able to hear it through the phone. “I was just about to say ‘how dare you take so long to reach out, I’ve been missing you hyung!”
Yoongi chuckled, clearly endeared, “You know you don’t have to lie to me to get on my good side, Jungkookie. I was actually calling because I have a proposition for you, little one.”
Jungkook still hadn’t had the chance to thank his hyung for sending him the playlist, and at this point he was too worried that words wouldn’t be enough, so he would settle for actions instead, like the action of not being too bratty.
Trying to sound unaffected (but secretly excited about whatever Yoongi had to say), Jungkook answered just shy of too quickly, “Yeah, hyung, what’s up??”
“I’m gonna be grabbing dinner tomorrow night with some of my friends, I think you could use the time out…wanna join? Hyung’s treat.”
Half of Jungkook wanted to jump at the chance for free food, but the other half, the one that had just started getting back into the groove of things after the slump, was screaming at him not to. Sighing, more because he knew was already breaking his self-imposed oath to be nicer to his Yoongi-hyung than anything else, he tried his best to sound as sweet as possible.
“I’m so sorry, Yoongi-hyung, but I have a huge pile up and a new client booked on Saturday morning that I still need to figure out a few looks for. Raincheck?”
There was a short silence, possibly from Yoongi being stunned into silence by Jungkook’s sincerity and general sweetness after which the older replied,
“New client, huh? Okay Jungkook-ah, don’t worry. I’ll drop by and visit on Saturday then? Hyung will even bring that kombucha thing you really like.”
Nothing sounded better after a long day than kombucha and relaxing with his best friend, maybe Jungkook could even convince the older one to treat him to bbq, giving him another reason to look forward to Saturday, Namjoon briefly popping into mind.
“Ah, Yoongi-hyung, you have the best ideas.”
“Kid, you have no idea.”
Friday came and went in a flash of eyeshadow palettes and mental drawing boards. Jungkook spoke to no one other than Bam, his beloved puppy, and the hums and commentary he would make to Mister RM himself as he listened to the album on repeat, still as bewitched by the man’s words as the first time he listened to them.
It wasn’t too hard for Jungkook to admit to himself that his mind strayed to Kim Namjoon more than once during the day, what did he say it was before? Professional curiosity, that’s it. He’d never been so affected by such a small amount of words from a stranger before, even more so when he doesn’t even know what the stranger looks or sounds like. But there was something about those words that seemed…intriguing.
Jungkook had never been given 100% free reign over whatever he wanted to do to a client before, not even the lower profile ones. If Kim Namjoon’s appointment had shown up on his phone even a few days prior, he might have rejected the challenge, too afraid that he would once again underperform or allow himself to settle for anything less than his very best, but not after listening to RM, now Jungkook welcomes the challenge.
Setting out his outfit for the next day and making sure to charge his phone (just in case he needed to listen to RM’s album again to hype himself up before the appointment), Jungkook settled into bed, and for the second time in over a month, slept with an easy smile on his face.
—
Jungkook woke up before his alarm, genuinely excited to try out one or more out of the dozen ideas he had thought of for his appointment that day. He went about his pre-appointment ritual as usual, gym, shower, brekkie, his inspirational playlist (if a few of RM’s songs were recently peppered in, then it was no one’s business but his own), then a quick check to make sure he had all of his stuff, and a message to Yoongi confirming his visit before practically bouncing off to work.
He arrived early enough that he could afford to take his time while setting up the salon, half humming, half singing some of RM’s songs while he worked. He was so carried away in his tinkering around the salon that he didn’t realize what time it was, didn’t hear the door to the shop open and someone step inside.
“Wow…that’s a beautiful voice you have there. I’m almost sorry I’m interrupting.” The beautiful stranger in question announced his presence with a small chuckle. Jungkook whipped around quickly in the direction of the voice and oh, OH FUCK. The stranger was beautiful, and Jungkook was definitely gaping and this was embarrassing and oh shit, are those dimples on each side of the man’s shy smile?
Jungkook ran his eyes up and down the man’s body, taking in the other’s olive skin, broad shoulders and defined chest through a white button up shirt that was unbuttoned just enough to tease, eyes (thankfully) concealed by a pair of sunglasses, before trailing back down to see, oh, - “Thighs.”
“Pardon? Ah, I’m.. sorry? That was rude of me,” The hottest man Jungkook had ever seen in his entire life spoke, taking off his sunglasses before continuing, “I should have introduced myself first. My name is Kim Namjoon, I believe I have an appointment with you today, Jungkook-ssi?”
Jungkook is an adult. He is a business-owner, pays his taxes, does his own laundry, cooking, cleaning, and every other adult activity imaginable. But at that moment, listening to his name in Namjoon’s voice, was enough to make him shut down.
Snapping out of the frankly alarming amount of R-rated thoughts that crossed his mind the second he made eye contact with the man’s dragon eyes, Jungkook swallowed thickly and rushed to respond, scared he’d already made a horrible impression, trying to escape the other’s intimidating gaze, Jungkook’s eyes ended up on his glorious chest once again.
“Yes, that’s chest. I mean- that’s correct, that’s me. Your appointment, I mean, is with me.”
Already prepared for the heat that overtook his body the second those words left his mouth, Jungkook finally willed himself to make eye contact with his gorgeous client only to find that, oh, okay, the man was blushing a bit as well. That doesn’t make Namjoon look even cuter and somehow hotter at the same time while making Jungkook think about other ways he could make the man blush…
Unable to take the silence, for fear that it would allow his thoughts to run rampant again and get him in trouble somehow, he continued.
“Yes, my name is Jeon Jungkook, nice to meet you Namjoon-ssi, welcome to Decalcomania Salon. How, uh, how did you know who I am?”
Jungkook watched as the other man ducked his gaze, bringing one of his hands up to rub at his neck.
“Ah, that. Well, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking at me, but I’m actually a big fan of your vlog, Jungkook-ssi.” The man, Namjoon said, clearly shy at his own admission, blush spreading even further on his cheeks. Cute.
Unsure of what to say, Jungkook gestured for the man to come in and turned around again, heart beating out of his chest and hands starting to work up a sweat. He doesn’t remember being affected by anything this much recently, well, except for RM-ssi’s album of course. Suddenly remembering the album, Jungkook walked toward the salon chair and gestured for his client to sit, realizing the other wasn’t a man of many words.
“Here, Namjoon-ssi, why don’t you take a seat and I’ll be right with you. I was almost done setting up. Do you mind if I play some music?”
“Not at all Jungkook-ssi, I love music, go ahead.” Namjoon moved over to the chair with another dimpled yet shy smile, a small amount of the blush from earlier seeming to have settled on his cheeks.
“Perfect, one second please!” Jungkook scrambled for his phone and took a deep breath to steady himself, focusing way more than necessary on his phone to try and mentally prepare for the feat of getting closer to Namjoon, touching him even, without imploding. Reminding himself that he is indeed a professional and has done this more than once with people he has found attractive (yeah, but not this attractive, his brain supplied unhelpfully), Jungkook pulled up RM’s album.
As soon as the album started playing, Jungkook felt himself settle down a bit, each note chipping away at his triggered fight or flight response, and with one last deep breath, he turned back to his new client.
If Jungkook were paying attention, he would have noticed how Namjoon’s cheeks seemed to get even redder without an apparent reason, or how the man’s eyebrow quirked up slightly at the sound of the music, but he was too busy trying to not actively gay panic again to pay attention to silly (read: important) details like those.
In an effort to distract himself from the tension in the air, not wanting to think too much about the reason why there was tension in the first place, Jungkook decided to try and make small talk. He wasn’t usually one to initiate conversations, content to wait for the other party to speak or even on particularly busy days, work in silence. But for some reason, maybe the excitement of being given carte blanche with a client or the adrenaline from his earlier gay panic, he made a split second decision to make the topic of conversation none other than RM.
Before he could even speak, still caught up in how to bring his crush on a celeb up in conversation to the living and breathing example of a perfect man in Jungkook’s eyes, he almost missed it when the other spoke up.
“Ah…is that, um, RM’s album, Jungkook-ssi?”
Perfect. It seemed that Jungkook wouldn’t have to do much after all. “Oh? Are you a fan of RM’s music as well?”
“Well, actually I-”
“Don’t you just think that his album is a masterpiece?”
“I mean-”
“Actually, it’s not just a masterpiece, that’s not even enough to describe the full album. It’s more of a religious experience? Yes. It just feels like RM’s magnum opus and that’s impressive considering how young he must be, like if he’s already producing and writing things at this level, what will he give us next? It’s like I wish I could just switch brains with him for a day, like see things the way that he does. I just know that he’s probably really well spoken and so cultured and oh, god, I can’t even imagine having a real life conversation with him about what he was thinking of when he wrote certain songs I just…he’s just… wow.”
Jungkook paused to breath because unfortunately air is required to live, and realized that in an effort to start a conversation and establish rapport with his hot client, for no other reason than to be friendly of course, he not only interrupted him more than once, but he also probably freaked him out with his monologue.
Cringing internally, Jungkook looked at Namjoon, and saw the red spread from his cheeks up to his ears and down his neck, before Namjoon cleared his throat and looked up at him.
“Oh, do you mean that? Jungkook-ssi? Am I correct to assume that you don’t know who he is then?”
Jungkook was sure now that he was mirroring Namjoon’s blush, though perhaps for an entirely different reason, he’d just admitted to a near stranger that he wanted to switch brains with a man that he’s never even seen a picture of before.
“Well, um I, ah…how to say this?” With a chuckle, Jungkook saw the genuine curiosity in the other’s gaze and decided to at least try to explain his reasoning, maybe there was still a way to salvage the probably poor first impression he made on Namjoon.
“It’s just that, I’m not usually big on idol culture? Like, I don’t really know what a lot of celebrities look like and I’m never really curious about that kind of stuff? Honestly, with RM-ssi it just feels like…I think his music more than speaks for itself, and I don’t want to somehow reduce all that he is by trying to fit him into a conventional box. Knowing certain details about someone’s life opens you up to doing that, even if it’s a subconscious action. Oh, he’s in his twenties so he hasn’t experienced this enough to talk about it, or, he’s attractive so he must have had it easier than others… The list goes on and on. I just know that somehow RM-ssi is wise beyond his years, however many those may be, and that regardless of any status assigned to him whether chosen by himself or by others, he’s way more than meets the eye. That’s why I spoke of his brain instead of his looks. I would be more than content to listen to his thoughts in whatever format.”
Once again, Jungkook had let himself get carried away, unaware that the salon now had three people in it.
“Yah, Namjoon-ah! Have you not told the poor kid who you are yet? Take him out of his gay baby misery please, RM-ssi.” A familiar voice spoke the words teasingly and had Jungkook turning toward the door, noticing his Yoongi-hyung before he even processed the words that had come out of his mouth.
Wait, what? Jungkook felt his world spin as he finally connected the dots. The reason why he liked Namjoon’s voice so much was because it was familiar…it was familiar because he’d heard it before…he’d heard it before because it had been accompanying him throughout his day, inspiring him to push himself even more and then lovingly lulling him to sleep…Namjoon-ssi was RM-ssi.
“Well, fuck.”
Jungkook was fucked. Looking at the two figures in front of him he took a step back, needing the extra space to breathe after the dots he’d just connected, too little too late as always. Switching back and forth between looking at Yoongi’s smirk, RM-ssi’s no, Namjoon-ssi’s bashful expression and the exit, Jungkook ran through possible scenarios in his head (most of which included giving himself and extreme makeover, changing his legal name and leaving the country).
Unfortunately for him, he had one hell of a perceptive hyung, which means that the second he started contemplating an escape, Yoongi-hyung caught every thought going through Jungkook’s mind and interrupted his plan to move to Mexico under the name Juan Dora (because everyone knows Dora is the superior cartoon explorer) by closing the distance between them and placing a palm on Jungkook’s arm, comforting him (read: preventing him from reaching the emergency exit).
He was too busy lamenting the loss of both of his crushes, RM and his new hot client, who (un)luckily enough turned out to be the same person to realize that Namjoon had gone an almost alarming shade of red, jumping out of his chair and sputtering to get the right words out to comfort Jungkook.
“Jungkook-ssi, I uh, ah, I’m sorry that I didn’t say anything! I wasn’t trying to make you uncomfortable or take advantage of the situation somehow, I’m not that type of person I promise! I just, ah…I got kind of shy?” Namjoon awkwardly mumbles out, simultaneously shy and determined about getting his point across. Jungkook, who hadn’t made eye contact with him yet, felt a light squeeze on his arm and realized that Namjoon was waiting for him so he looked up, eyes meeting Namjoon’s appreciating what the high blush on his cheeks did to his crush’s client’s complexion.
The eye contact didn’t last for long on either side, but something caught Jungkook’s eye and he realized that somehow in the middle of everything Namjoon had lost his jacket, now only sporting a white short sleeved t-shirt which had ridden up to expose a tiny bit of Namjoon’s tummy as he brought his arm up to rub at his neck, biceps flexing and wow Namjoon, wait, RM, well they were both fit as fuck. Jungkook swallowed hard, willing his body not to react to the amount of beautiful skin on display, thinking that the only thing that could make things worse was him getting a boner in front of his best friend and Namjoon.
Jungkook was 100% sure that he was drooling and even more sure that there was no way to save face anymore, he felt the front of his jeans get a little tighter (thanks for that, body), panicking at the thought of his half chub being obvious to either man in front of him he tried to step forward to find somewhere to hide his lower body.
Unfortunately for Jungkook, the second he tried to take a step, he tripped and fell forward, only stopping as his forehead seemed to hit something firm yet sort of soft and almost pillowy? Resisting the urge to nuzzle into it, Jungkook thought back to what this soft, nice smelling cloud could be, whole body freezing up the second he realized that there was in fact nothing in front of him before he fell, which means something or someone moved to hold him up.
Large, firm hands came up to grip his waist and pull him up. A full body shiver ran down Jungkook’s spine the moment he felt someone taller than him press the length of their entire bodies together. If it wasn’t Yoongi-hyung (sorry but he’s short and doesn’t have boobs) then that only left… oh shit.
Jungkook reluctantly looked up, thinking how in a few seconds he had managed to somehow make things worse by not only barrelling into his crush’s chest, but also pressing his half hard cock against the others crotch. Great. The little bubble that Jungkook and Namjoon were in broke with small whine (no one knows from who) and a choking sound (all three of them know from who).
“Namjoon-ssi, I’m so sorry! I- I didn’t mean to I”
“No, I uh of course not! Jungkook-ah!”
The pair jumped apart, both quickly growing red for different reasons (yes, Namjoon did feel Jungkook’s uh… and Jungkook knew that Namjoon felt it).
“Aishh, I can’t believe this. I must have done something horrible in a past life to be stuck with you two clumsy muscle heads!” The two men in question looked at each other, growing even redder before looking away again.
“Now both of you come here. Hyung is going to treat you to some nice bbq and soju. You’re both going to have to loosen up and remember how to function long enough to do that, okay? I’m looking at you, Namjoon-ah. I don’t want any broken plates or glasses. Got that?”
“Y-yes hyung.” A very cute, very red Namjoon responded, sheepishly readjusting his clothing and shrugging his jacket back on, exposing another sliver of tummy that had Jungkook two seconds away from kneeling on the ground and begging to lick it (you’re not an animal, Jungkook-ah).
—-
Jungkook was going to kill his best friend. The more he thought about it, the more he realized this entire thing was fabricated by one Min Yoongi and he was going to have to pay for it. With his life. Or a lifetime supply of bbq and banana milk. Or both. Yes, both worked. Preferably the banana milk and meat first.
The minute they reached the bbq place, his ex best friend sat on one side and declared it occupied, stating something about his age and how he needed that entire side of the table so he could stretch out properly while eating (Weird flex, but okay).
So Jungkook had to squeeze himself in next to the whole lot of man that is Namjoon, desperately trying to ignore the fact that their thighs were kind of touching, and if he leaned in just a tiny bit more, their arms would be as well.
Taking a deep breath, Jungkook closed his eyes and counted to ten in his head, opening them again to the scariest sight ever - Yoongi’s smirk. Apparently, while Jungkook had his mini freak out, Yoongi and Namjoon took the liberty of ordering and the food was coming out soon.
Needing something to occupy his time (and hands) with so that wouldn’t risk doing something stupid like confessing his love to a near stranger in the middle of a bbq restaurant, Jungkook took the soju that the server put on the table along with their banchan and started serving it to the other two men at the table.
He turned to Yoongi and realized that the other was staring at the banchan, lips quirking upward slightly at the corners, eyes glinting dangerously.
Jungkook couldn’t have imagined what Yoongi was going to do next. If there was ever a Yoongi bingo created Jungkook wouldn’t have had his hyung starting a debate over banchan before the first bottle of soju was over in his cards (or at all).
The last thing Jungkook remembers before the catastrophically life changing conversation that would follow is understanding for once why people say that Yoongi looks like a cat - the cheshire cat smirk the older let form over his face followed by a “Hey Namjoon-ah, you’ve heard of that debate kids are having these days, right?”
“Kids, he says, as if he’s not a millennial himself.” Jungkook heard Namjoon whisper towards him, catching the older rapper’s dimple flash from the corner of his eye.
Interrupted by the server bringing their meat and setting it on the grill and an “Of course hyung will grill it, Joon-ah, Jungkook-ah, don’t worry about it,” and a few heavy silence filled beats later with nothing but the sound of meat sizzling on the grill to fill the empty space, Namjoon cleared his throat.
“You were saying, which debate, hyung?” Namjoon said, voice sounding surprisingly almost rough with sleep, leaning forward and tilting his head slightly, giving him the feel of an overgrown puppy - Jungkook’s heart clenched at the thought.
Leaning towards the banchan and lazily picking something up with his chopsticks, Yoongi set it on Namjoon’s plate, half turning towards Jungkook before saying, “The perilla leaf debate, of course my clumsy, talented little dongsaeng.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened, he finally understood what Yoongi was aiming at, why he was smirking towards their food, biding his time until the soju they had been drinking had made its way into their stomachs, lulling them (read: Jungkook) into a false sense of security.
“Aaah, that one! Yeah, hyung, I'm aware of it.” Namjoon answered, seemingly unaware of the way Jungkook had gone still, content to answer his hyung’s question, blissfully ignorant of Jungkook’s suffering.
“And? What do you think, Joon-ah? If you’re out on a date, should your partner help one of your friends peel a perilla leaf with their own chopsticks?” Jungkook, with his eyes still fixated on the table in front of him, could practically see the smirk on his ex favorite hyung’s face as he said it, feeling more than a pair of eyes on him as well.
To Namjoon’s credit, even as his eyes shifted back and forth between the other two men at the table, not quite able to figure out what was going on, he still answered.
“Aish, hyung! I can’t really say what I would do in that situation, but I don’t think I would feel comfortable telling my partner what they can or cannot do.” The ‘they’ was said with a little more emphasis than Jungkook thought was necessary, but then again he wasn’t exactly a good judge of anything at the moment, still trying to understand the depth behind his hyung’s smirk.
“Here, Joon-ah, eat up while I tell you all about one of the most interesting responses to the debate I’ve heard so far.” Oh. Well, shit. “What was it, Jungkook-ah? Something about it starts with one perilla leaf, then leads to holding hands…”
Jungkook couldn’t even focus on freaking out at the idea of being exposed in front of his crush (!!) before feeling some movement out of the corner of his eye. Jungkook turned to see Namjoon smiling across the table, eyes crinkling as his chopsticks neared the perilla leaf that Yoongi had put on his plate. Yoongi. Put on Namjoon’s plate. With Yoongi’s chopsticks.
Taking his own (unused thank you very much) chopsticks in hand, Jungkook practically launched himself toward Namjoon’s plate (yes, even in the short amount of space between them, Jungkook’s movement was that dramatic) and snatched up the perilla leaf, shoving it into Yoongi’s open mouth. Hmpf . Take that , Yoongi-hyung.
Everything happened so fast that for once, Jungkook seemed to forget the person sitting next to him and more importantly, the fact that he had just stolen food off of that person’s plate, proceeded to shove it into his hyung’s mouth and sit back triumphantly with a literal grunt. Why are you like this, Jeon Jungkook!?!?!
Jungkook cautioned a glance at Yoongi, the look on his hyung’s face expressing the shock that Jungkook was feeling. Yoongi sat there, unmoving, mouth drooping open slightly from the plain shock on his face, unbitten food peaking through (gross, Yoongi-hyung) and Jungkook couldn’t help but snicker a tiny bit, satisfied that he was finally able to do something to shut the elder up.
“Uhh… wow .” Namjoon said in awe (?) Jungkook cringed, wanting nothing more than for the ground to swallow him up, considering his earlier Dora/Mexico plan once again.
“Hah. Yeah, I’m sorry? About that, Namjoon-ssi? I, uh, couldn’t let Yoongi-hyung finish that sentence.”
“No no, don’t apologize Jungkook-ah and, uh, please call me hyung?” Jungkook swore he heard him mumble something that sounds like: “After what I’m about to say, here goes nothing,” but he ignored it in favor of focusing on how world shatteringly beautiful his name sounded coming from those plump lips.
“I hope this doesn’t offend you, Jungkook-ah, but that’s probably the hottest thing I’ve ever seen? And uh…I’ve seen a lot. But, no one has ever shut Yoongi-hyung up like that?” Namjoon’s eyes go to Jungkook’s lips. “Yup, definitely the hottest thing I’ve ever seen. Do you want to maybe get out of here with me? Go grab some ice cream?”
Wait, what? Was Jungkook dreaming or did the man of his dreams just call him hot and then ask him out? “I, uhh, ‘course.” Jungkook cleared his throat quickly, hoping that Namjoon wouldn’t suddenly regret his decision based on Jungkook’s lack of ability to form a coherent sentence.
“I mean yes! Of course! Now? Now let’s go now. ‘Kay bye Yoongi-hyung don’t forget to chew that perilla leaf thoroughly, thanks for the meet! I mean the food!”
With a level of courage Jungkook himself wasn’t aware he had in him, he took Namjoon’s hand and scooted out of the booth, hoping that his luck wouldn’t run low and his Yoongi-hyung would stay in a state of utter shock for at least as long as it takes them to leave the restaurant.
Both men giggled as they left the restaurant, bumping clumsily into each other as they headed down the street, the sheer giddiness of what had happened at the restaurant taking over as they walked toward the ice cream shop, still hand in hand.
Jungkook couldn’t believe his luck. Not only did he get to confess to the guy he’d been crushing on with no added stress (mostly due to the fact that he didn’t know he was talking to the guy he was confessing his feelings for, but that’s besides the point), but now he got to live out his ultimate kdrama dreams, stuffing his enemy’s (okay Yoongi is his best friend, but, semantics) mouth with food and riding (read: walking) off into the sunset with holding hands with his crush, take that Park Min-Young.
By the time they finally reached the ice cream shop the giddiness had worn off, replaced instead with a mix of quiet confidence and comfortable silence, the one you usually experience with people you’ve known your whole life. Jungkook and Namjoon ordered their ice cream and the makeup artist tried his hardest (and failed) not to blush when the rapper/producer insisted it was his treat.
“It’s because you were so cute and hot at the same time, Jungkook-ah. Ah, and I want to be able to treat my idol to some ice cream, too.”
Jungkook promptly choked on his mint choco ice cream and blushed head to toe in Tinkerbell-like fashion. “Y-your what?! Idol? Wha-What do you mean, hyung?!”
Jungkook turned to his new hyung bambi-eyed, trying to understand whether the other was making fun of him, ready to pull out his world famous pout if that were the case, and found nothing but genuine wonder on the older’s face, a dimple popping out, and a small blush settled high on his cheeks, deepening even more from earlier.
Realizing that Namjoon’s earlier outburst was probably more a shy admission than a flirty line, Jungkook felt his confidence grow a little at the thought that Namjoon was actually as affected as he admitted to being in the restaurant.
“Hyung? Look at me, please. What do you mean that I’m your idol, Namjoon-hyung?” Jungkook leaned in a little closer to the other, daring to take his non-ice cream holding hand and brushing it against the other’s fingers across the table.
“Ah, uhh…well, Jungkook-ah…I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. You probably get hundreds of comments and likes from so many users so I won’t embarrass myself further by going into more detail…” A deprecating chuckle followed Namjoon’s comment, and Jungkook had to go back to focusing on the ice cream in front of him to avoid reaching out, grabbing Namjoon’s face and probably smooching the hell out of it, while also giving him time to process the information.
“No, hyung, please?” Jungkook peaked out from behind his ice cream curiously with a slight pout, “I would love to know more about your user, don’t you think it’s fair? I mean I did kind of geek out to you, about you, right?” Even though Jungkook tried his best to seem unaffected by what happened earlier, he struggled to keep the blush off his face and the teasing tone present in his question, but if he was going to shoot his shot, he might as well, right?
If it were possible for Namjoon’s cheeks to get any redder, then Jungkook would have been surprised. Namjoon sputters a little, having finished with his ice cream and now taken to cleaning his already pretty clean hands as a form of something to do, mumbling something to himself that Jungkook didn’t quite catch but sounded a slight bit like “Aishh, what is he so cute and hot for I can’t say no to him”.
Jungkook found himself on the receiving end of a half glare, Namjoon’s piercing dragon eyes narrowing playfully, blaming the fact that he was going to give in so easily on Jungkook’s cuteness and powerful pout.
Satisfied with the elder’s response, Jungkook went back to enjoying his ice cream, challenging Namjoon’s glare with a playful lick to his cone that had the idol’s eyes darting down to his lips, mentally preparing a reply just in case he didn’t know who Namjoon was based on his username, because the last thing he wanted to do was come off as arrogant or as a liar.
Namjoon’s eyes darted back up to Jungkook’s, clearly caught, but no longer shying away, resigned to his fate at Jungkook’s hands.
“It’s uhh, bonsailuvrm?” Namjoon answered, his tone almost shifting into a question by the end of the sentence, looking sheepishly at Jungkook while he brought his arm up to rub at the back of his neck, flashing a golden skinned bicep in the process, the entire beautiful, perfect experience causing Jungkook physical pain and causing him to choke on his ice cream.
“Jungkook-ah? You okay?” Namjoon snapped out of his bashfulness quickly, sliding out of his own seat and into the booth with Jungkook, bringing his hand to the younger’s back to give him a mix of light taps and rubs to help calm him down.
Namjoon’s innocent gesture almost sent Jungkook to an early grave. The more Namjoon got closer to him and patted him on the back, the more he was unknowingly pushing Jungkook into his plush chest, and Jungkook once again found himself mentally begging his head to stay in place and not nuzzle into said chest, his dick to behave and not embarrass him on his first not-date in front of the hottest person he’s ever seen.
He couldn’t help the small whine that bubbled up in his throat, so enamored by the gentle giant in front of him, somehow feeling simultaneously better and worse at having Namjoon in his personal space. Looking up through his bangs, Jungkook was met with those dragon eyes again, this time full of concern, and his heart skipped a beat.
“I’m fi-fine hyung, just a little embarrassed. T-thank you for helping.”
“Of course, Jungkook-ah. Anything for my favorite celebrity.” Jungkook was barely able to conceal another embarrassed whine at that, realizing that while his hyung was probably being genuine, he was also purposefully teasing Jungkook, and was still in the other’s personal space.
Jungkook looked up at Namjoon, surprised to see that his eyes were fixed on Jungkook’s lips, a playful glint in his eyes and a light smirk settling on his lips, pink tongue darting out to wet them.
“You know, Jungkook-ah, you offered to let me try your mint choco ice cream earlier, does that offer still stand?” Namjoon asked, mischievously.
Jungkook, confused, barely spluttered out a “Y-yes hyung, sure.” before turning to hand him his ice cream cone, hand stopping midway in the air when his lips were met by something plush that tasted slightly chocolatey, heart stopping at the feel of Namjoon brushing their lips together, feeling something against his top lip, then a hum against Jungkook’s lips.
Their kiss was leaning more towards sultry than sweet, Jungkook’s near heart attack aided by the elder’s tongue coming out to lick at his top lip first, then tracing the shape of Jungkook’s lips slowly, almost as if Namjoon were trying to memorize their shape by feeling it out, Jungkook powerless to stop it and barely having enough sense of mind to hold onto his ice cream cone without squishing it, feeling a swarm of butterflies settle in his tummy.
It ended shortly after, Namjoon seemingly satisfied with his handiwork and Jungkook flustered enough that he had to remind himself to breathe as the elder backed away, unable to hold back a pout at the kiss ending so suddenly.
“H-hyung?”
“Ah, I couldn’t resist, I might not like mint choco, but it’s delicious off your lips, Jungkook-ah.” Namjoon said with a cat-like grin on his face, his tongue darting out once again to run over his lips, as if he’s still trying to taste the ice cream he must’ve gotten from Jungkook’s lips.
“As much as I’d like to continue exploring my new favorite treat,” Namjoon continued flirtatiously, “it seems like someone else wants your attention, Kookie.” Jungkook blushed at the nickname but was quick to turn his attention to the phone on the table that showed ‘Grumpy Cat Hyung’ on the screen, and Jungkook was once again two seconds away from murdering his Yoongi-hyung for interrupting what would surely be the best makeout session of his life.
Jungkook decided not to push his luck. Just because he had been lucky enough to escape Yoongi’s grasp earlier unscathed didn’t mean he wouldn’t really be in trouble if he didn’t answer the phone, so he picked up with a sigh, plotting revenge for another day.
“Hello Yoongi-hyung. How are you?” Jungkook answered in the sweetest faux innocent tone he could muster after everything that he’s been through thank you very much.
“Yaaaaah!!!! After I invite you out for food and even introduce you to your new muse to get you out of that slump, this is how you treat me Jeon Jungkook!!! I RAISED YOU BETTER THAN THIS YOU UNGRATEFUL BRAT!!”
Jungkook could barely hold back a snicker, deciding to be a proper brat instead, still upset at Yoongi-hyung for interrupting the sexiest (yet somehow still cute) kiss he’d ever received in public (or anywhere for that matter).
“I mean, really hyung, you know I love free food, but not at the cost of my pride or anything else that you’ve interrupted today, hyung, honestly.”
“Wait, interrupted!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN INTERRUPTED???!!? JUNGKOOK-AH WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY PRECIOUS DONGSAENG?!?!”
Jungkook didn’t even try to hold back an evil cackle as he separated the phone from his ear, looking Namjoon right in the eyes as he hung up on his hyung.
Looking at Namjoon, whose jaw had dropped open after observing the entire scene unfold before him, Jungkook threw a coy look his way and looked up at him through his eyelashes, batting them innocently before asking, “Want to go back to my apartment and show me just how much you enjoyed that, hyungie?”
Namjoon practically tumbled out of the booth, trying his best not to fall flat on his face at the promise of more, while Jungkook followed behind him laughing, a new message on his phone popping up as he moved to put it back in his pocket.
Grumpy Cat Hyung
“go get 'em kid, i guess :]”
Jungkook met at the door, throwing their trash away and leaning into the older, slipping his hand into the other’s and intertwining their fingers with a dreamy sigh, as they walked together hand in hand toward Jungkook’s apartment, he knew it wouldn’t be the last time.
Epilogue
~ 6 months later ~
“Coming!” Jungkook yelled toward the door of his apartment, pulling at his white dressing robe that made him feel like an actress from the 60s, hoping that his very late boyfriend would be the one at the door.
Pulling his robe closer, Jungkook looked through the peephole and couldn’t hold back a frustrated sigh.
“You’re late, RM-ssi.” He emphasized the other’s name, a furrow in his eyebrow as he stared at, who was holding something behind his back, looking as sheepish as the day they first met.
“Baaaabeee…” Namjoon whined, pulling a pout. “Pleaase don’t call me that. You know your professional voice turns me on and I can’t go to this event with you while sporting a boner!”
Jungkook couldn’t help but snicker, knowing exactly what his voice does to his lover after many months of testing it out in private and public (Namjoon’s manager/best friend Hobi had tried his hardest to discourage both Jungkook and Namjoon from being too frisky in public, a warning that Jungkook took with a giggle and the dramatic hair twirl of a now confident gay, never looking back). Jungkook was too focused on the fact that his plan worked to even process the words that had left his boyfriend’s mouth, not hearing the invitation in the older’s words.
“Wait, WHAT?! KIM NAMJOON GET YOUR ASS IN HERE AND EXPLAIN YOURSELF!!”
Jungkook screeched at him, half embarrassed, half excited by the idea of going to an award show with his big, beefy, gorgeous boyfriend, trying to cover his smile at the fact that Namjoon was still able to pull this type of reaction out of him after so many months of dating.
Namjoon walked into the apartment with a sheepish smile, dimples popping out and eyes crinkling at his boyfriend’s cute reaction, heart going funny at the beautiful boy in front of him, with his nose scrunched up in his signature bunny way.
He took Jungkook in his arms, closed the door with his foot and pressed the younger one up to it, shoving his nose into Jungkook’s neck, breathing him in to settle his nerves before asking the question.
Namjoon took a deep breath, leaving a sweet kiss and a hint of a nip at Jungkook’s neck before separating from him and holding his hands.
“Jungkook, my baby, my bunny, baby bun. I know we haven’t been dating for very long, and we’ve had to be careful about it to protect our privacy…”
Namjoon took another deep breath, squeezed at their joint hands and looked into his boyfriend’s eyes, looking at the galaxies swirling around in them, hoping that his idea would make Jungkook's eyes shine even brighter with excitement.
“But I don’t want to hide us anymore. If you’re okay with it, then I want the world to know about the beautiful, amazing, talented man that I’m dating. Would you come to the award show with me as my plus one…as my boyfriend?”
If there was ever a moment in his life where Jungkook felt like thanking the gods for granting him a muscled boyfriend, this would be it. Unable to contain his excitement, he jumped into Namjoon’s arms, squealing at how romantic his boyfriend is, looping his arms around the other’s neck to steady himself before spreading kisses all over the older’s beautiful face (if he spent more time on a certain pair of dimples, then no one has to know), as he listened to Namjoon honest to gods giggle and if that didn’t make his stomach go all weird in some disgustingly in love way, he would probably try to jump his gorgeous lover in the doorway, award show be damned.
Jungkook was too excited, brain overflowing with the amount of subtly matching outfit and makeup ideas he had stowed away in his mind for future events with Joonie, mostly ideas he thought of on lazy mornings in bed, both of them wrapped around each other, enjoying soft touches and trading slow kisses. So, with that in mind, he jumped off of his huggable boyfriend and led him to his bedroom, or makeshift salon in this case, not even bothering to answer the question he’d been asked, knowing his actions had more than done that for him.
A few hours (and bribes from Jungkook later) given that Namjoon kept trying to distract Jungkook from the task of getting them both dolled up for the event by pulling the younger into his lap and onto his meaty thighs (thighs!). They were both more than ready with no major casualties (well, except for Jungkook almost poking Namjoon in the eye with a brush or two, but sue him! Namjoon’s thighs are distracting!!!)
The afternoon of the award show was one of the greatest of Jungkook’s life, bar none. Not only was he able to slip a couple of important people his business card, but he was also constantly next to Namjoon. If this were any other event, or he were a plus one for any other person, he wouldn’t be as surprised. But given the nature of the event and the amount of attention that the rapper got on any given day, Jungkook really thought he’d barely see the other on the red carpet.
What Jungkook forgot to take into account, however, is that this was Namjoon, not RM. This is the man who had always made him feel comfortable, no matter the situation, who somehow always knew what to say to make Jungkook feel better, who knew how to read Jungkook perfectly. Jungkook wondered, not for the first time, if he might be in love.
Namjoon made sure to introduce Jungkook to every single person on the red carpet, credit him for his look of the night, and keep a protective arm loosely around the other’s waist while giving him just enough wiggle room to not feel suffocated. The rapper positively glowed, taking every interview in stride, keeping a well practiced but natural smile on his face when the questions got a touch too personal, squeezing Jungkook reflexively, but the younger found he didn’t mind the treatment at all, loving the fact that he knew his boyfriend well enough to read his tells.
As they settled into their seats a while later, all of the interviews and red carpet pictures were finally done, Namjoon making sure that Jungkook was comfortable every step of the way, the younger felt the realization settle into his chest quietly, almost like a missing puzzle piece. Yes, Jungkook loves Namjoon. Jungkook is in love with Namjoon .
Hiding what felt like a full body smile (if that’s even possible), Jungkook was pulled out of his thoughts by the announcer who was listing off the nominees for album of the year, of course, Indigo one among them.
WAIT- INDIGO ?!
Jungkook turned to Namjoon ready to fight the other for leaving out such an important detail, but found the other blushing profusely and decided to go easy on him, settling for squeezing his hand a little too tightly.
“Hyung??? Did you fail to mention that you were among the nominees tonight?!?!” Jungkook whisper-shouted, remembering that they were surrounded by people and cameras, not wanting to cause a commotion when a camera could be trained on them at any time.
“I’m so sorry, Jungkook-ah. It honestly kind of slipped my mind? I’m really not expecting to win at all, I didn’t even prepare a speech, I was more worried that you wouldn’t want to come with me.”
“But-”
Namjoon stopped Jungkook from interrupting by gently placing a finger over the stylist’s lips before continuing, “My biggest honor tonight is to be able to sit here with you like this, baby. I’m so glad you said yes, bunny, I loved being able to show you off to everyone and make them all jealous that I’m with the prettiest man in the room.”
The idol flashed his signature Jungkook smile at his boyfriend, a special one reserved for their private moments, with dimples on full display and eyes crinkling. Jungkook’s heart ached at the sincerity of the bewitching man in front of him, but before he could even formulate a response, he was interrupted by a loud round of applause, spotlight suddenly hitting the side of his producer boyfriend’s face.
“AND THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO…INDIGO BY RM!”
Both men would later say that what happened next was a whirlwind. Namjoon standing up and hugging Jungkook so hard that they were both left breathless, then going on stage to accept his award with nothing prepared and proceeding to thank everyone that participated in the album he could remember off the top of his head (and Namjoon being Namjoon, of course, remembered everyone and thanked them all profusely).
Namjoon turning toward Jungkook while still on stage, making a vague remark about someone special in his life who inspires him to find himself and winking in the younger’s direction, confirming the person’s identity to the entirety of the audience and probably most viewers at home.
Even with the privacy that Jungkook always claimed to enjoy gone, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling so much his jaw ached. Watching the man who is probably the love of his life, accept a well deserved award so humbly and even mention him on stage, felt like a full circle moment, an out of body experience that he wouldn’t trade for the world.
As Namjoon finished his speech, Jungkook let a small giggle out, already planning the perfect celebration for his boyfriend. He’d take that gorgeous soul home, have a quiet celebratory dinner over a few glasses of wine and then make love to him .
Jungkook would make good on the promise he made all of those months ago and show Namjoon that he deserves nothing less than the best, hopefully, forever.
