Work Text:
Every passing five days a week are always the same in the crowded corridors of high school for Abed - relentless bullying from both gangs of jocks and snotty cheerleaders. He endured way worse than what he had been given since middle school, yet years of that pent-up anger kept bubbling up in his chest. The more that boiling anger in his chest crosses its limit, until then it'll erupt at any given moment to give Abed the power he so desperately needs to fight back to create a hero moment for himself like in the movies, exacting revenge and payback.
Abed's boyfriend Troy knew full well just how horrible the bullying was targeted towards his other half, and being a former football jock himself, you could say that he once was an ass in the past to Abed when they had met on the first day of class to do a collaborative project together. Luckily, that insecure character of his persona that he'd built around himself broke in the first few episodes of their friendship in season one. The more he hung out with Abed, the more he felt his tough personality practically dissolve itself entirely into millions of little pieces scattering themselves in different directions and gradually transition in a much more softer, and tender person.
A classic enemy, to friend, to lover TV trope as Abed might call it.
Troy has defended Abed a number of times and stood up for him against his former football friends, as they accuse their ex-teammate for betraying them and breaking their code, which ended up in Troy taking Abed away with him despite the epithets and derogatory names that were aimed to the duo, calling them gay, queer, or worse. Troy did not care for their opinions.
In movies, while imagining about having a hero moment for himself in character, unleashing all of his hidden anger on to his tormentors in the most aggressive of ways that were almost likely, Abed hoped to use that when finally standing up against his bullies, making them feel the pain he'd felt at their hands, with heroic and triumphant music playing in the background. Abed has mentioned this to Troy multiple times, and the latter agreed to let him do just that.
The next morning when Troy picked up Abed at his home, on their drive, Troy suggested they stop by a drive-thru coffee shop and talk at the parking lot, to which the latter agreed. Troy picked the usual - two small cups of hot chocolates, and a bag of croissants cut in half and buttered. Parked in one of the spaces in the parking lot, the pair of boyfriends were listening to music while enjoying their breakfasts.
There came a point when Troy turned off the music and had asked Abed if he had been harboring anger towards him when they were first paired up together to do that project in class. Hearing this, Abed thought for a few seconds, though the look in Troy's eyes screamed worry. Responding now, Abed tells him since the day they'd met, he knew he's different from everyone else and also believed he was facing a number of issues of his own - such as his unresolved anger issues towards his father and in his middle school years.
Troy's issues with his anger weren't a secret kept from Abed, the latter must've at least once or twice seen his boyfriend take his anger out on somebody who was messing with him or beat up a punching bag as a way to help him defuse as much anger as he could.
In a way, Abed also felt the same way Troy was feeling ever since. At a young age, Abed has had to deal with abandonment issues toward his mother, being a misunderstood stranger by his father, and overall pent-up rage he bottled up since middle school when it came to being the target for bullying.
If his mother knew that he was being bullied, then why did she decide to abandon her son in the first place despite making annual Christmas visits to him and not believe in what he is trying to tell her?
This was a question that not even Abed could answer himself, nor could his father, or Troy.
The only person who dropped out of his life that could answer that question is none other than Abed's estranged mother, as if they are yet to meet again and she couldn't give him an accurate answer for her doing what she had done to him.
After much discussion, Troy and Abed continued on their fateful drive on the way to school.
Parked just right behind the school's building by a grassfield nearby, after taking a few deep breaths, Troy and Abed slowly came out of the car and walked toward the back doors of the building, bracing for the worst. As it turns out, there's always nobody over by the back doors that lead across the hallways and it's two diverse pathways and its corridors resonating with noise, one of them being the loud metallic banging against the rows of lockers as its sounds were heard in the distance. Swallowing thickly and with clenched fists, Troy and Abed got up the courage to take on, if not the entirety of an army of sports jocks, but maybe few of them.
Just now turning the corner, Troy and Abed found themselves immediately surrounded by a quartet of jocks named Brendon, Joseph, Lucas, and Xavier. Ever since Troy cut off contact with the four for being bad friends to him, he hates them for being mean to Abed more than anything else in the world. Haunting flashbacks of being slammed against lockers and even thrown in said small confined spaces triggered Abed, but today, he would transform the pain that'd been given to him for too long to suffer from and serve it right back to his tormentors.
Taking a step forward, with burning crimson eyes, balled up fists, tears threatening to come spilling down, with his body possessed by some sort of energy or power, and rage waiting to explode, Abed swung at Brendon and punched him square in the jaw after rendering a shrill piercing cry which seemed to attract nearly the majority of the student body.
Joseph tried to step in to help but Troy quickly caught his wrists, spun him around, and trashed him down to the linoleum tiles. Not done with that, Troy pounced upon Joseph and continued to beat him black and blue. Troy tightly wrapped his hands around Joseph's neck even as his fingernails dug in his skin, sure to leave marks. Stunned and nearly losing balance, Brendon again tried to swing at Abed to land a punch, but this time, the latter had him wrapped into a chokehold.
Now, this time as Abed isn't alone in this scenario when it comes to rescuing and protection, Troy is alongside him in this struggle for support against a gang of jocks. Sure, they may be two against an army like in that one episode from a TV show, but it's there. For the first time ever in the history of his whole entire life, Abed Nadir expressed emotion in the form of rage and took it out on his bullies, and the satisfaction it gave him felt too good. Next, he slapped Xavier hard across the face, and it's sound that'd been heard, reverberated in its very hallway here.
Lucas made the mistake of nearing a visibly hot-headed Abed and encircled his arms around his waistline, and was met by Troy aggressively pushing him away from Abed. Troy restrained his arms from flailing around and Abed delivered hard hitting punches to his guts. Needless to say, Lucas was definitely tag-teamed by Troy and Abed and was also sent down to the linoleum floors after Abed stamped on his foot.
Now Troy and Abed turned their gaze on Brendon and Xavier and the both jocks were slammed to the rows of lockers. With one of their hands restraining their arm and the other grabbing a fistful of their hair, the duo bashed their heads against the metal lockers. Abed wanted the jocks to suffer through the pain he'd felt by their rough and uncaring hands since his freshman year and is sick and tired of being bullied. Absolutely nobody ever listened to him, believed him, or took any action to help him out, except Troy, who actually took the time to listen and process information and remained nothing but loyal alongside his sweetheart.
Just like in any other story, Abed is the hero, and Troy is his helper, and both the hero and helper equally deserve to enjoy being the center of attention in the spotlight, being given credit as to where it is due, and also to be celebrated. Abed then twisted Joseph's wrist and sent the latter flying across the hall and landed on his back. Looking upward, a student dumped a lunch tray consisting of mashed potatoes, corn, a carton of chocolate milk, peas and vanilla pudding on his face, thus he is at last defeated.
Frightened by Abed and Troy's wrath, and having just enough mobility in their bodies to flee while their heads were still heavily pounding from being bashed against the rows of lockers, Brendon and Xavier did just that. Lucas joined the trio after being delivered a hard punch to his nose, a kick in the belly and in his balls by Troy even as the lines of students parted.
With his face blotchy red and stained by tear tracks quickly running down his watery eyes, Abed covered his ears by the palms of his hands and rendered a loud bloodcurdling roar. Shaken by the roar, the majority of the student body scattered themselves, running away in different directions in the corridors to protect themselves from being next up on the receiving end of Abed's newfound fearsome temper, only leaving him and Troy alone all by themselves now.
With his anger calmed, Troy effortlessly brought a roaring Abed back to the back doors, the latter then collapsed on to his knees with his hands still over his ears as his bloodcurdling roar then changed into a high-pitched shrill shriek even as his eyes were tightly shut closed. Now Abed quieted himself and removed his hands that had been clamped over his ears. His eyes still red from leaking salty tears, long face, and messy hair in spikes.
Now Troy's bright red eyes started pouring a river of tears of his own as he felt his heart sink for his boyfriend after seeing him in a state like this. He put out his hand for Abed to take, to which the latter did, and together with fingers interlaced, they walked out the school building, to the parking lot, got into Troy's car and drove away from the school premises. No words were exchanged between the both.
Troy stopped by at a McDonald's drive-thru and looked over towards Abed for confirming his order, to which he only gave thumbs-up as yes in response while listening to music through his noise canceling headphones. After paying for and getting their orders, Troy and Abed drove home to Troy's house, where they ate their meals with the comfortable silence washing over them in the kitchen area, to which this undoubtedly was a nice feeling.
Later that evening in bed, Troy lightly pulled Abed in to cry on the material of his t-shirt and rubbed circles on his back in an effort to soothe him. Such anger was replaced by sadness for what had happened after a long day, and this is definitely the case. Troy felt so proud of Abed for standing up for himself against those jocks and making himself heard. On having said so, Troy gently cupped his cheek and brushed it with his thumb, he closed the little gap between them and softly kissed his forehead.
Troy assured Abed that even he's here for him and for his protection in case if those jocks do ever dare mess with him again. Abed hoped that even after this encounter, that they've better learned something, or probably in another timeline, the jocks and cheerleaders ought to clear out the way and fear two guys like Troy and Abed coming through.
Troy agreed and chuckled lightly at that conjecture as he felt the other guy smiling against his neck, and his hand lifting up his crinkled shirt and settled it on his warm belly, slowly feeling it rising up and down. Troy countered that maybe in a alternate timeline, he could get pregnant and make babies for Abed, which the latter chortled at that.
