Work Text:
We were driving to god knows where, mostly just cruising from town to town. It was his idea to sneak out. I thought it was a stupid idea, considering he had classes tomorrow and I had work. But who was I to deny his puppy dog eyes. I still wasn’t immune to them no matter how many times I say I am. He’s always full of surprises. I was pulled out of my thoughts, when I heard my phone buzzing. I started to look down at the message until it was snatched out of my sight.
“The hell, Blondie!” I whipped my head over to the side to see Vash frowning deeply and barked back.
“Keep your eyes on the road! I’ll look at who texted you.”
I only huffed and looked back out towards the road. It was beginning to get darker as the sun set over the horizon. I never really understood the difference between sunrises and sunsets. They looked pretty much the same just in reverse. They were still nice to look at don’t get me wrong. They always kept my attention and were almost as addicting as cigarettes. Speaking of cigarettes, I was really craving one but I’ve been slowly trying to quit and I just had one a few minutes ago. Vash is always worried about people’s health. Which is the main reason I’m trying to quit. I took a quick glance at Vash and asked who it was that called, when he had slightly thrown my phone back in the cupholder.
“Miss Melanie. She asked where you were. We can call her back when we stop at a gas station.”
I just nodded. I had a feeling he wanted to just enjoy our time together and I wanted to as well. I got the chance to look over at him fully when the highway came to a straight stretch and I don’t regret it. The view was a lot better than the sunset itself. Vash had a dopey grin on his face, leaning his head against the window. He had taken off his shoes a while ago and put his feet up on the dash, tapping his crossed feet to the beat of the music that was softly playing. The melting sun splayed across Vash in delicate rays bathing him in orange and yellow. Light reflected off his glasses to make them seem more notably yellow. He wasn’t wearing anything special; a loose t-shirt and some old shorts, but it didn’t stop me from gazing over his body in awe.
God damn, why was he so hot? I quickly looked back over to the road, flipping my sunglasses from the top of my head to hopefully hide my blush. Moments like these are what make living worth it. He makes it worth it. I reached over to lay my hand on his thigh but he instantly twined our fingers together, laying our hands on the arm rest between us. I didn’t fully look over at him again; however, the golden and effortless smile that made its way onto Vash’s face made me spineless.
Yeah. He looks better when he smiles.
