Work Text:
“Han is way hotter than Luke,” Lucas argued. “Will, back me up!”
Will laughed. “I do have to agree, Han is pretty hot.”
Mike gasped. “You don’t think he’s hotter than me, do you?” His lip quivered.
“Of course not,” Will kissed Mike’s cheek.
“I still think Luke is hotter than Han,” Dustin chimed in. “Mike agrees with me.”
Mike nodded. “True.”
Lucas rolled his eyes. “That’s only because Luke looks more like Will than Han.”
Will blushed.
Mike nodded. “I won’t deny it. If you don’t look like Will, I’m not interested.”
“You’d leave me for someone that looks like me?” Will teased him.
“No!” Mike screeched. “God, no. You’re mine, forever.”
Will smiled. “Good.”
Dustin groaned. “Lucas, make it stop! They’re flirting again!”
Lucas shook his head, holding back laughter. It was a rule that during guys’ night, they couldn’t be all over each other. It was actually easier than either one of them expected, and honestly easier than Lucas and Dustin expected.
Ever since Will killed Vecna, Mike never left his side. He was always holding him, and kissing him. He didn’t care who was around. Most days the two of them spent lounging around in each other's arms on the couch in Will’s living room, unbothered by people walking in and out.
“I’m gonna get some more soda,” Will said. “Anyone want anything?”
The other guys shook their heads.
“I’ll be right back,” Will said, standing up. He gave Mike a kiss on the head before making his way up the Wheelers’ basement steps.
Lucas took another sip of his vodka. None of the boys were particularly a fan of the way it tasted, but they didn’t care. They just wanted a buzz.
Dustin had already downed two full cups by the time they settled in to watch their movie. They decided on Halloween. To be honest, they only picked it so they could make fun of Mike. Because if he married Will, he might end up being “Michael Byers,” which is pretty similar to Michael Myers.
Mike took a swig of his vodka, stretching a little bit. “You know what I've always wondered?” Mike slurred. “I’ve always been curious about what Will sees in me. I mean, I’m not that good looking and there’s plenty of other guys that Will would like better.”
Neither Lucas or Dustin knew how to respond to that. They were both very aware of how Will felt about Mike.
“He’s just so much better than me,” Mike continued. “He’s smart, he’s funny. Not to mention, he’s insanely hot. He’s the sweetest person in the entire world and I’m a Rumpelstiltskin looking ass. I’m not that smart. I’m also like the nerdiest, most unsmooth guy in the entire world and he’s so cool and has so many interests and he’s talented. I’m just a boring schmuck with rich parents.”
“I wouldn’t say that,” Dustin looked at him. “We like all of the same things. Of course, I don’t like Will as much as you. But if you’re boring, we’re all boring.”
“Okay, but I’m also the biggest dumbass in all of Hawkins,” Mike breathed. “I hurt him so many times over the years, because I was too much of a pussy to deal with how I felt. If I was smart, I would have seen how much he was struggling.”
“He didn’t want you to see,” Lucas reminded him. “He never wanted you to know how he felt. Obviously, he’s glad you found out. But, the point is if he didn’t want you to know you wouldn’t have.”
Mike sighed. “Do you think he’s with me because there aren’t that many options in Hawkins?”
Dustin’s eyes widened. “No, I don’t. I don’t think he cares about anyone else in Hawkins. I mean, he kind of had blinders on for you since the day I met you.”
“Maybe he just likes me because I’m in close proximity,” Mike reasoned. “I mean, I am available. And willing. He knows I would do anything he told me to do. He’s so cute when he’s bossy.”
“Mike,” Lucas got his attention. “You gotta stop overthinking. Will loves you.”
Mike shrugged. “Yeah, but I don’t know why?”
“You don’t know why?” All three boys turned to see Will standing at the bottom of the stairs. “You don’t know why I love you?”
Mike shook his head.
Will made his way over to the couch, setting his cup on the coffee table. “Then, clearly I haven’t done a very good job of showing you.”
He reached out his arm for Mike to take. Mike grabbed his hand, allowing himself to be pulled up. Will dragged him up to his room, and shut the door.
“What are we doing?” Mike asked.
Will pulled him over to his bed, indicating for him to sit down. Mike complied.
“You really don’t know what I see in you?” Will asked.
“How much of that did you hear?” Mike wondered.
Will squeezed his hand tight. “Enough. Enough to know that I don’t tell you how much you mean to me nearly enough.”
Mike chuckled. “In my defense, I’m so busy complimenting you all the time that I never let you get a word in.”
“Let me tell you all the things I love about my boyfriend,” Will began. “Get comfy, because there’s a laundry list.”
Mike smiled, sitting back against his pillows. He pulled Will down beside him, running a hand through his hair.
“First off, you are the most selfless person on the planet,” Will began. “You always take care of me. Emotionally, physically, sexually. You always put me first. You’ve always put me first. From day one, you’ve been taking care of me.”
“It’s easy,” Mike grinned. “I always want you to be happy.”
Will beamed. “Exactly. You’re caring. You always care about what I think or how I feel. My opinion has always mattered to you.”
“Your opinion is usually right,” Mike said.
Will nodded. “Yeah. So when I say I love you, you need to believe me.”
“Okay,” he breathed.
“You are also a leader,” Will continued. “You take charge and always make the executive decision when no one else wants to.”
“I always thought that pissed people off,” Mike squinted his eyes.
Will shook his head. “I love it. I mean, you’re literally my knight in shining armor. I literally painted you shielding me from evil.”
Mike laughed. “Is that really how you see me?”
Will nodded. “Of course, I do. You’re so brave. You saved me from Vecna. You saved me from Lonnie. You saved me from my own thoughts about myself.”
“I couldn’t very well live without you,” Mike squeezed Will’s hand.
Will playfully rolled his eyes. “From day one, you chose me. And, you continue to choose me every day. You always give me a choice, too. Ever since I was little, decisions were always made for me. My dad decided what my sexuality was before I was old enough to define it myself. Mom and Jonathan always thought I was too young to know what they did to keep our family together. But, you always made sure my opinion was heard.”
Mike was blushing like crazy at Will’s words. He had never thought about any of this before. He was so in awe, he just let Will keep going.
“You’re also ridiculously hot,” Will smirked. “I know you don’t see it. But, you made me gay panic on day one. I thought I was gonna fall off the swing, you were so handsome. And now, you’ve grown into all your features. You’re tall and have perfect cheekbones. Your hair is so nice. I love your eyes. The way you look at me, makes my insides burn. I can’t believe I get to kiss you,” Will squealed. "You’re the only person I’ve ever wanted to be with, and I’m so lucky that I get to be your boyfriend.”
Mike tried to hold in tears, at this point. He had never felt attractive, or brave. He always felt like a lump of wasted space that somehow got lucky enough to date Will. He had always equated it to good karma, or something.
“You make me feel so safe,” Will climbed on top of him. He rested his weight on his boyfriend, burying his face in his neck. Mike’s arms immediately wrapped around Will’s waist.
“Yeah?” Mike’s heart was racing.
“Yup,” Will breathed. “I’m also the only one who can play with your hair. It makes me feel special.”
Mike laughed. “You are my favorite party member. Don’t tell Lucas. He’d kill me if I admitted to having a favorite.”
“You let me get away with calling you Michael,” Will nuzzled his shoulder.
“It’s cute when you say it,” Mike kissed his head.
Will hummed. “You are also a notoriously standoffish person, and you’re always all over me. I love that your cuddles are reserved for me.”
“It’s easy to want to cuddle you, Angel,” Mike said. “You’re everything.”
Will planted kisses on Mike's neck. “I also love how you never shut up, but you still always pay attention to me. As soon as I speak, you make sure everyone’s listening.”
“Well, duh,” Mike said. “Whatever you have to say is usually important. And when it’s not, it’s cute. Which in my book is still important.”
Will squeezed Mike even tighter. “You never need to question how I feel about you, okay?”
Mike nodded.
“I love you so much,” Will told him. “There’s nobody in this entire world, real or fictional, that I would rather be with. You’re mine.”
“Always yours, baby,” Mike breathed.
Will sat up with a smile. “You believe me, yet?”
Mike laughed. “Yes, I believe you.”
“Good,” Will giggled. “We should probably get back downstairs before they think we’re ditching them to have sex or something.”
Mike crawled off the bed, pulling Will with him. “We’ve only been gone for 10 minutes.”
Will opened Mike’s door, interlocking their fingers. “You can do a lot of damage in 10 minutes. Remember the Christmas party?”
Mike choked on his own spit. “The entire left side of your neck was purple.”
“Yeah, and that was on the kitchen counter,” Will reminded him, as they made their way down the stairs. “Imagine what they think we’re doing if your bed is involved.”
“I would think that they have a little more faith in us than that,” Mike said. “They know we wouldn’t ditch them on guys’ night.”
“They know I wouldn’t ditch them,” Will corrected.
Mike gulped. “That’s accurate. Want to cuddle during the movie?”
“I kind of promised Dustin-,” but he was cut off by Mike’s lips.
“Don’t even start,” he teased. “I call dibs on the couch, and you’re the little spoon.”
Will kissed him again. “Sounds good.”
