The forest was eerily dark. The moonlight was hardly able to penetrate the thick layer of interwoven branches making up the forest roof. Rouxls had been wandering for nearly 30 minutes in search of an elusive nocturnal insect native to the forest. He had considered inviting Queen to accompany him but had retreated from asking out of shyness. After being alone in a dark, unusually quiet forest for a half hour, he had begun to wish he had invited literally anybody.
Rouxls continued his trek, his eyes scouting every inch of the forest floor. His painstaking attention to his search was disrupted by the noise of footsteps. Rouxls swiftly turned towards the direction the noise came from.
“Who-st goes thereth?!” He vainly tried to hide the fear in his voice behind his accent. After receiving no response, he reluctantly inched forward, slowly approaching where the noise came from. Suddenly the sound of running could be heard behind him. Rouxls jumped and began frantically shining his flashlight in all directions around him searching for the mysterious threat. “Be warned-st Night Fiend! For I hath a vast artillerye to defend Mineself!!!” Rouxls loudly proclaimed. In reality Rouxls had just a small, colorful plastic container from a mass manufactured bug collecting kit for children and a flimsy flashlight in his possession.
Rouxls froze when he saw a shadowy figure standing before him. They were much shorter than him, but terrifying nonetheless. “I- I- identifyeth thouself! Forest Scoundrel!!!!” Rouxls chirped out, completely failing to sound unafraid. Rouxls then covered his mouth to contain his screams as the figure slowly crept towards him. Rouxls could no longer pretend to not be scared, although it’s not like he was doing a very convincing job anyway. He covered his face with his arms and squealed as the footsteps grew louder. When the footsteps stopped, Rouxls stood still like a statue in a cowardly position for an embarrassing length of time. Eventually Rouxls peeked through his fingers and saw that the mysterious prowler was only Kris.
“K- Kris! I knew it was thou this whole time! D- Did thou enjoyeth mine theatrecal performance of a cowardly damsele? Did mine acting abilities convinceth thou that I was genuinely in feare? P- Perhapseth I should pursue a career in theatre!” After he stopped spouting his endearingly pathetic lies, he noticed that Kris was holding an object wrapped in cloth in their arms. “What art thou holding?” Rouxls asked meekly. Kris said nothing while they unwrapped the object, revealing it to be a pale white cabbage. “Oh! A cabbage? What art thou doing carrying produce througheth the foreste at night?” Kris brought the cabbage to Rouxls with their arms extended, still having not said a word. “Oh! This cabbage is a gifte? For me?” Rouxls asked. Kris nodded silently. “I amst grateful! I supposeth..” Kris receeded back into the forest as Rouxls spoke, quickly being engulfed in the darkness.
Rouxls was exhausted when he arrived home. He placed the white cabbage on a table and then collapsed on his bed. In the morning he suddenly was awoken by an insect crawling on him. Rouxls then saw that there were several bugs in his bed. Rouxls got up and entered the living room, and was then astounded by the sight of hundreds of bugs exiting the cabbage and scampering around the room. When Rouxls inspected the cabbage he saw several empty egg sacs nested throughout. A pleasant but strange surprise.
