I'll Follow You

Summary:

Tenko was focused on getting through the Hero Course and pushing his way to become the best omega hero, ready to inspire anyone that wanted to make their dreams a reality.

But the very persistent green-haired alpha trying to court him at every turn was making it difficult to keep that focus.

Notes:

Today's Prompts for ShigaDeku Week were Obsessive Behavior and Omegaverse.

Work Text:

The lingering scent of mint tea drifted heavier through the classroom once Aizawa called an end to their class for the day.  It did nothing but make Tenko roll his eyes, knowing what it meant.  He knew the green-haired alpha was ready to make another courting attempt.  He was persistent, that much the omega could admit.  To a lesser degree, the alpha’s pheromones weren’t the worst thing he’d ever smelled, but that was beside the point.

The point being that the dumb alpha couldn’t take a hint, and it seemed today wouldn’t be any different.  “Hey, Tenko, ready to walk back to the dorms?” Izuku asked, doing his best to exude confidence, though Tenko could see he was nervous.

“I’m taking on some extra training, you know, something you may want to consider if you want to focus on being a hero rather than poorly attempting to find a mate,” Tenko said, pushing by the alpha as he left the classroom.  He did pause at the doorway to see Izuku’s face blush a deep red, a sight he’d finally admitted enjoying after refusing his many attempts.

The reaction wasn’t out of anger or disrespect, that much Tenko could tell from the way Izuku’s scent didn’t turn sour.  If nothing else, it smelled more heated, vibrant, after their interactions.  Tenko’s omega thrummed to life whenever it caught a whiff of that scent, taking far too long to calm it down after he walked away.

Okay, maybe he was a little interested in Izuku, but he had his hero career to think about!  He wanted to be one of the greatest omega heroes, able to push past all the other alphas, betas, and omegas until he was the number 1 hero one day!  So very few omegas made it as far as he had, but Tenko wanted to inspire future omega heroes the way his mentor Aizawa did for him.

Which meant he didn’t have time to be distracted by his instincts.  Or the set of glassy emerald eyes that watched his every move.  Or the slim, yet muscular freckled body he’d stealthily glance at in the locker room.

“Fuck,” Tenko muttered low enough to avoid having others hear his agitation.  He was glad that this extra training session was to improve his ability to fight without use of his quirk.  The concentration needed to avoid using Decay was certain to take his mind off of his other ‘distractions.’

Later in the week, Aizawa addressed his class as they settled in the open practice room.  The floors were slightly padded to soften falls but not eliminate the pain entirely.  “We’re going over take down moves today.  When dealing with a villain, even if you have a quirk that can subdue at long range, you should still learn some tactics on how to hold them so they avoid being more of a threat.  I’ll show you examples of some of these submission moves, then have you take turns practicing them in teams of two.”

Tenko focused on Aizawa’s precise movements as he took down the volunteer ‘villain’ with several techniques, ready to put them to practice.  As their teacher called out the teams, he heard that Izuku was partnered with Kaminari, a beta with a big mouth that didn’t mind sharing his interest in the alpha he was now paired with.

As he watched the beta practically melt at getting to work close to Izuku, Tenko felt something burn low in his gut, anger he couldn’t put a name to suddenly stoked as he watched the blonde saunter over to Izuku and get close to him.

He’d spent so much time focused on them that he’d almost missed hearing his own team called.  His partner for the exercise was Kirishima, one of the alphas in the class who, despite his size, wasn't a typical knothead.  Tenko had some respect for him after seeing the redhead stand up for other betas and omegas throughout their school year.  He was a powerhouse and it would be difficult to take him down, but Tenko only felt encouraged by the challenge.

Aizawa had the teams form two lines, one side the attacker, the other defending.  Tenko had ended up on the defending line and readied himself to use the moves his mentor had just taught them.  As the whistle blew to signal the start of the exercise, Kirishima rushed Tenko, using his larger body frame to his advantage.

Ready to use the alpha’s momentum against him to flip him over to his back, Tenko was suddenly distracted as he saw Kaminari face-down on the ground, Izuku pinning him down from behind.  But it wasn’t the dominant stance of the alpha that had his attention, but the satisfied look on Kaminari’s face, making it all too obvious that he intended to get himself in that position.

“Gotcha!” Kirishima yelled, pinning Tenko down on his back, perfectly executing Aizawa’s move to bring an opponent down and leave them unable to move their limbs to counter.  The alpha breathed heavily on top of him, sharp teeth revealed in a smile as he realized he’d won in his role of the practice.

A distant growl grew quickly closer until Tenko barely saw a blur of green before Kirishima vanished from his sight.  Now free to move, he sat up and saw Izuku nearly feral as he faced off against Kirishima, who was doing all he could to placate the other alpha.

“You’d take him from me, my omega , and not expect me to challenge it!” Izuku yelled as he circled around Kirishima, who obviously didn’t want to be where he ended up.

“I’m not trying to take anybody, man!  It was part of our training, that’s all!  If he’s your omega I’m not going to mess with that, it’d be an unmanly thing to do.  But if you insist, I will defend myself,” Kirishima answered, getting himself settled to fight if needed should Izuku not back down.

Izuku’s alpha wasn’t satisfied, after seeing Kirishima pushing Tenko into submission, it needed to show dominance.  Green eyes that had often reflected comfort and kindness were now a murky swamp of rage and anger.  He charged at Kirishima, flashes of his quirk racing across his skin, until he was suddenly met with the omega he’d been pursuing standing firm between the two alphas.

“Get out of the way!” someone shouted from the sidelines, but Tenko didn’t move.  As Izuku attempted to avoid him, Tenko used his change in balance to grab an arm and throw him onto his back using Izuku’s own momentum.  As his back hit the barely cushioned floor, Izuku wheezed as the air was knocked out of him, taking with it his immediate instinct to attack Kirishima.

“You stupid, stupid alpha!” Tenko yelled as he leaned over Izuku, desperately taking in breaths as he started to calm down.  Kirishima took the opportunity to make himself scarce while the rest of the class also gave them some space.  “Do you really think I’m as weak as everyone expects me to be?  That I need some knothead alpha to protect me?  Look at where I am, Izuku!  I’m here because I’m anything but weak or fragile!”

Izuku whined beneath the omega, finally back in control of himself.  “My alpha– no.  I didn’t start to pursue you as a mate because I considered you weak, Tenko.  It was always the other way around.  I knew I wanted to be your mate because I’ve seen your strength!  I let my guard down today and gave my instincts control, and for that I’m sorry.  If anything, I’m the one who is weak, but it's because of how you make me feel, Tenko.”  Izuku turned his head up, baring his neck in an obvious sign of submission.

“I’m weak for you, but if given the chance, I believe we’d both grow stronger together.”

Moved by the alpha’s words, Tenko took the opportunity to graze his fingers along the alpha’s bared neck and jaw before letting his wrist gland scent Izuku, feeling the alpha relax under him as he did so.  Tenko stood and stretched before offering the alpha a hand up.  “I won’t make it easy on you, alpha.  I won’t abandon my dream of being the best, so you’d better be prepared to follow me to the top.”

Taking the hand and rising to his feet, Izuku grinned as he looked at his strong, determined omega.  “I’ll follow you anywhere, Tenko.”
