Summary
The dark water of the Black Lake lapped gently at the rocky bank, glassy in its pristine clarity. There weren’t any clouds in the sky—a rarity for the rainy season—but a distinct wetness in the air told of a distant storm. It was stale by the bank. The water was brackish and dull—the trees weary and disinterested. The wind was aimless and wandering, brushing along the sagging treetops instead of bothering itself with the grass below. It was still blowing, however. It was still churning. The sky might be cloudless, but there was still a chance for the storm to roll in. There was still a chance for the day to turn.
