Summary
Pothos - god of longing and yearning
Initially, Aaron had assumed it was a cough. A persistent one but a minor cough nonetheless. It's only when he begins to cough up petals, Hawthorn petals specifically, that he realises that it's something far more serious. The diagnosis only confirms it; Aaron Hotchner has Hanahaki, also known as the Unrequited Love Disease or Vomiting Flowers Disease and there are only three options.
Get the surgery to remove the petals along with any affection for the person he loves.
Do nothing and let the disease run its course, eventually becoming terminal.
Tell the person he loves how he feels and hope they feel the same.
Aaron opts for the surgery. Mainly because it's the only option which might work for him. Also because he knows there is absolutely no way that Emily is in love with him too.
