Work Text:

Tony was watching Steve Rogers.
Captain America.
His childhood hero and first crush.

Said hero was outwardly about eighteen years old, and he observed everything around him with childish joy.

He'd fought Hydra, and he'd been afraid of a simple television.

The phone Tony was using was being watched as an explosive device.

Steve looked at him hesitantly, then said. "You are....?"

Tony cursed mentally.
He hadn't introduced himself to the other, he had just picked him up and brought him to his house. "Tony Stark."

The last name made Steve look up. "Stark?"

"Howard was my father."

"Was?" Steve looked devastated.

Tony was jealous of him, to be sad about a man's death.
Tony himself cared little about his fate.
"He's dead. Car crash."

Steve nodded, looking to the side.

Tony frowned.

Steve seemed more than impressed with the news.

"Surprised that someone married him?" He asked then, for a laugh.

Steve looked at him confused. "Why? Howard is…was, a very intelligent and nice person. He helped me without asking for anything in return, when no one would even give me a chance."

Tony grit his teeth.
Now he was jealous that his crush was speaking with obvious affection about his father.

Steve smiled sadly. "I thought he'd be able to become a machine and never actually die."

"Are you talking about artificial intelligence?" Tony asked, amused.

"Something like that, yes." Steve nodded.

Tony snorted. "You have no idea what he said, do you?"

"No, but you seemed confident."

Tony laughed. "Do you want to go see the rest of the house?"

Steve frowned. "Something in here will suddenly attack me?"

"No, it shouldn't."

"Fine then. Show me the rest of this…mansion."

"It's not a mansion. It's a house, normal size."

"No, I think it's a mansion. Calling this home is a joke on poor visitors."

Tony laughed, extending a hand.

Perhaps in one conversation his crush had become a real infatuation.

Perhaps he had already planned how to ask out to Captain America.

And he had definitely thought about whether Tony Rogers or Steve Stark or Rogers-Stark would play better.

Mr Tony Rogers-Stark was really good, right?
