Chapter Text
Adrien paced around his bedroom, unable to contain the large ear-splitting grin from creeping up his face. He wanted to shout from the rooftops. Wanted to bask in the warm, hot rays of the summer sun. Wanted to kiss nearly every person he saw. He was that happy.
“What’s got you all excited?” A voice called out to him.
Turning, Adrien spotted Plagg hovering nearby, a piece of camembert in his paw. He opened his jaw, devouring the cheese in two seconds flat. It made Adrien shudder.
But he was much too happy to be disgusted for long. He beamed over at Plagg before falling backward on his bed. A dazed sigh left his lips as he stared up at the ceiling. He reached around, grabbing a pillow from behind him and hugged it to his chest.
A second later, Plagg hovered above his face, disturbing the daydreams Adrien had begun to partake in. The kwami raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms across his chest. “Seriously, I don’t think this is normal. You might need a doctor.”
Adrien scowled, tossing the pillow at Plagg who stayed exactly where he was, neatly phasing through it. “What’s up with you kid? I haven’t seen you this excited since your favorite anime got a second season.”
His cheeks turned red at the reminder before he quickly shook off the lingering embarrassment. Jumping out of bed, Adrien gestured around as he spun in a slow circle. “There’s a rumor going around, Plagg!”
“Yeah, Parisians gossip all the time. What’s so different this time?”
“This time the rumor’s about Ladybug.” Adrien’s eyes got hazy as he glanced away. He gave another lovestruck sigh.
“Ahh!” Plagg nodded his head. “Now I understand. So what’s up with your little lady luck this time? There’s been rumors before but they haven’t gotten you this excited.”
Bouncing on his toes, he practically shouted, “Because this time the rumor’s about me! People are saying that Ladybug might have a crush on me! Can you believe it?!”
“No,” Plagg spoke rather dryly.
Adrien’s beam immediately dropped, turning into a scowl. Rolling his eyes, he turned on his computer and pulled up the latest articles. There were pictures of every moment he had spent with her. All of which had gotten promptly saved to his computer.
What could he say? Those were some great pictures. Especially the ones where he was being cradled in her arms. Yeah, that was a wonderful day.
Lost in visions of the past, he only managed to snap out of it when Plagg waved a hand in front of his face. Adrien blinked, suddenly back in the chair in his room and not in Ladybug’s arms which is where he wanted to be.
“Earth to Adrien.” He snapped, rolling his eyes at him. “Where’d you go there, kid? You disappeared on me.”
Hiding his blush, he turned back to his computer and gestured at the article. 10 Reasons Ladybug Is in Love With Adrien Agreste was what initially drew his attention. As he read the article, though, it filled his stomach with butterflies. Even just the possibility of his lady being in love with him was enough for him.
“See?” Adrien sighed, leaning back in his chair as his eyes skimmed over the list once more.
Plagg chuckled, shaking his head. “This proves nothing! Why did you even read thi—”
Before his kwami could finish that sentence a large thump sounded on Adrien’s windows. They both jumped, whipping around to see that Ladybug had landed directly on the glass. His eyes widened and he scrambled out of his seat, catching a brief glimpse of Plagg whizzing away and out of sight.
Dashing over to the window, Adrien carefully opened it, calling out to the girl. “Ladybug? Are you okay?”
“W-who me?” She chuckled almost nervously. But what could she be nervous about? Her gaze bounced from his head back to the city of Paris like she was torn. “I’m always okay! And I should probably be go—”
His lips parted, about to ask if she needed water or something when she cleared her throat, shaking her head. Her eyes took on that determined, fiery blaze that always had him melting. It did the same thing this time.
Adrien’s breath escaped in a woosh as Ladybug pointed inside. “A-actually, would it alright if I came in for a second? I actually have something to discuss with you.”
He nodded wordlessly, opening the window wider. Great. Now his voice and breath had been stolen from him.
Adrien was probably lucky that he couldn’t speak, though, because right now all he wanted to do was squeal. Ladybug was coming inside his room? To discuss something with him? With no akuma on the way? Just how many of his daydreams had started exactly like this?
Pinching himself, Adrien was startled by the fact that yep, he was definitely awake. This was really happening. How lucky could he be?
Ladybug nervously shuffled on her feet, twirling her yo-yo around. Clearing her throat, her voice was slightly choked as she began, “I-I don’t know if you’ve seen any of the articles yet...” She trailed off, her face a bright red.
Adrien blinked rapidly, his eyes getting wider by the second. No. This couldn’t be happening. How could she know that he was reading the articles? Did she have some kind of computer-related superpower he didn’t know about?
Guiltily, he glanced over to his computer which had thankfully turned off by now. He didn’t need the evidence of his misdeeds staring them in the face right at this moment.
Just when Ladybug cleared her throat and her eyes blazed once more, Adrien couldn’t stop from bursting out with an apology. “I’m sorry!”
Her look of fiery determination shuttered into confusion. Tilting her head adorably, she slowly shook her head. “S-sorry? Adrien, why are you sorry? I don’t understand... you didn’t write the articles... did you?”
Ladybug’s mouth dropped open into an expression of perfect shock. And was that a small hint of hope that he had seen flickering in her eyes or was he just imagining things?
“No!” Adrien practically shouted, shaking his head rapidly. Ladybug reeled back from him and he felt his cheeks heat up once more. Softly, he murmured, “I mean no. I didn’t.”
“Then why are you sorry?” she asked, taking a step towards him.
“Because I well—you know...,” he trailed off, pausing for a brief moment. There was still a furrow between Ladybug’s brows and he knew she didn’t understand. Blowing out a harsh breath, Adrien continued in a mumble, “I may have read them. And commented about how I, um... wished that it was true.”
Ladybug immediately stiffened. Standing up straight as she gazed over at him. Adrien winced, unable to read her expression. He didn’t see any anger or rejection. If anything it just looked completely blank. Like she hadn’t been expecting his response.
Either way, Adrien clenched both of his fists and squeezed his eyes tightly closed. He was not prepared for another rejection today.
But no angry words or disbelieving laughs came from Ladybug’s lips. There was only silence.
It took a few moments after that for Ladybug to finally croak out, “And what if it was? True... I mean.”
A frown creased his forehead. What was she asking? Slowly, he cracked one eye open, peeking over at her. She was shifting from foot to foot, looking overwhelmingly nervous once again. But this time he definitely did see the glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Opening the other eye, Adrien cleared his throat. “Well, I-I don’t know...”
As soon as he said those words he regretted them. The hope in Ladybug’s eyes died instantly, replaced by a look of utter sadness before her entire face shuttered back into a blankness. He couldn’t... wouldn’t lose this chance.
“B-but if I had to guess I would probably confess that I feel the same?” Adrien forced his eyes to remain open, wanting to instantly close them once more. His hands shook with fear. If he was right though... if he was right.
“Y-you do?” Her voice was breathless as she gaped over at him. “F-feel the same, then?”
“Y-yeah,” Adrien stuttered out, feeling dizzy with giddiness. Was he certain that he was awake?
Ladybug rushed forward. Or was it him? He honestly couldn’t remember. All he did remember was that suddenly their lips were tangled together in the sweetest kiss of his life. He sank into her bonelessly, a shiver racing up his spine as her fingers began running through his hair.
He couldn’t wait to tell Plagg that he was wrong. For now, though, Adrien focused on making this the best kiss that the both of them would remember. Because this time there were no akumas around to make them forget.
