Work Text:
“Vee!” Luz screams, throwing her hands up and stumbling back against her bed. She can hear heavy footsteps pound against the stairs and a second later her bedroom door flies open. Both Vee and Hunter burst through the doorway, concern for their sister written all over their faces.
“What happened?” Vee asks frantically.
“Where’s the fire?!” Hunter swings his fire extinguisher around, aiming it around the room.
“I can’t find anything to weeeaarr!” Luz whines, dragging out the last word. Her siblings pause, and their defensive positions relax slightly. They take a second to look around the room, noting Luz on the floor against her bed, tears starting to pool in her eyes and the piles upon piles of clothes covering every free surface.
“Seriously? You called us in here for wardrobe control ?” Hunter narrows his eyes and glares at his sister. “I was in the middle of a battle in Zelda! Now I’m going to need to start the level all over again.”
“Oh calm down Huntsman,” Vee punches her brother lightly, “This is what family does. Now come on, we’ve got a job to do.” Vee kneels beside Luz and starts picking up the nearest items of clothing. One is a purple and white striped shirt, while another is a pink fluffy skirt. Neither seem right to Luz. Hunter joins the two on the ground and starts rummaging through another pile of clothes.
“What about-”
“No.” Luz immediately shoots down the blue jeans Hunter holds up.
“Okay, then maybe-”
“Also no.” Luz shakes her head at the gray sweatshirt Vee shows off.
“C’mon Luz, you have to work with us!”
“I know, I know. I just-” Luz’s voice catches slightly in her throat, “-I want this date to go perfectly .”
“You’ve been dating Amity for what, four months now? Five? She’s not going to care if your dates are ‘perfect’ or not. You guys aren’t a new couple anymore.” Hunter shrugs.
“Back before the Collector took over and we were blasted through the portal, I promised to take Amity on the most mundane, slice of life date ever. It was when you helped me rescue her from her own house, Hunter, remember?”
“Yeah and you two got all mushy-gushy and then you got yourself captured by Kikimora instead of me. Not fond memories.” Hunter grumbles, still salty about his sister's stupid self-sacrificing tendencies.
“Anyways,” Luz chuckles slightly, moving past Hunter's deepening glare, “Now that the war is over and we can move between the human world and demon realm as we please, I thought it was high time Amity and I finally got that mundane date. We’ve both been looking forward to it for ages, and it needs to be the most boring, simple, cheesy date ever. No wild monsters, no schemes, no shenanigans. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. This date must go perfectly.”
“We can see how much this means to you hermana,” Vee says, wrapping an arm around Luz. “We’ll help you pick out the perfect, most boring outfit for your perfect, boring date.” Vee hugs Luz, while Hunter stays quiet and off to the side. Vee glares at her brother and punches him harder than before. The boy groans dramatically but relents nonetheless, moving closer to his sisters and leaning his head against Luz’s shoulder.
“Fine, whatever. I’ll help too.”
“Thanks guys,” Luz hugs her siblings closer, a smile growing on her face. This date is going to be perfect!

“Emira!” Amity screams, collapsing into her chair and letting her brush drop from her hands. She can hear two sets of pounding footsteps race through the house. A moment later her bedroom door is slammed open so hard she swears it rattles on its hinges. Both Emira and Edric tumble through her doorframe, falling over each other, with deep concern written across both of their faces.
“What’s wrong?” Emira asks frantically.
“Where’s the danger?!” Edric yells, welding one of his dad’s abomination guns.
“I need help getting readdyyyy!” Amity wails, dragging out the last word. The twins pause, their defensive positions melting away.
“Seriously? That's what you were screaming bloody murder for?” Edric complains. Emira punches her twin. “Ow! What was that for?”
“Of course we’ll help you, Mittens. What seems to be the problem?”
“Everything! I don’t know what to wear, or how to do my hair, or what accessories to add, or how to do my makeup-” Amity rambles on, her voice wavering and tears pooling in her eyes. This date can’t be anything less than extraordinary, and Amity is ruining it already.
“Ed, you’re on wardrobe duty.” Emira says, taking charge. Then she looks closer at her brother, and the dirty Bad Girl Coven shirt he is wearing with the week-old sweatpants he definitely found at the bottom of his laundry bin. “Change of plans. Ed, you’re on hair and makeup duty. Leave the wardrobe to me.”
“Aye-aye, Captain!” Edric mock salutes his sister then ducks out of the way as she tries to punch him again. Amity laughs wetly, and quickly dries her eyes. It’s okay. The date isn’t ruined yet.
“I’ll be right back,” Emira says, “I just need to grab a few things.” She darts out of the room, leaving Edric and Amity alone together.
“Okay Mittens, step right up please! The Incredible Edric’s Hair Salon is now open for business.”
“I don’t think you’re going to stay open for long.” Amity deadpans.
“Oh hush. I’m great at hair and makeup. When I actually try, that is.”
Amity groans, but relents and meets her brother at her desk. She sits down in front of her mirror and grabs all the hair supplies she has. Edric grabs her brush and starts by detangling all her knots.
“So what are you thinking today? Hair down, or swept to the side, or up, or whatever else you can think of?”
“I don’t know. There’s too many options.”
“Okay then, what sort of vibe are you feeling? We can go based off that.”
“Um, I guess I want to look pretty? But also keep it casual. Also I want to still feel like me, y’know?”
“I see. I think I have a few ideas. Mind if I test some things out?”
“Test away.” Amity sits back, trying not to regret all her life decisions leading up to this moment as Edric brushes and ties and sections off her hair. Maybe giving him free reign was a bad idea. Maybe she should just leave it down.
But she always leaves it down, and on a date you’re supposed to switch things up. She knows Luz is probably going to be wearing some beautiful, elaborate outfit with her hair styled perfectly. Amity just wants to live up to Luz’s expectations.
Ever since their first kiss, Luz has been trying to plan a perfect, mundane, slice of life date. Things got hectic with the Collector, but now that life has finally died down the two quickly planned a time and nothing was going to get in the way. Amity will make sure of it. Luz has been so excited for this date, and Amity would hate for it to go awry. The date has to go perfectly, or else Amity will never be able to consider herself an amazing girlfriend again.
“How does that look?” Edric jostles Amity from her thoughts and he spins her chair around, so she can see the back. She reaches up, tentatively running her hand through the dyed ends.
“It’s actually good. Like really good,”
“Wow, don’t sound so surprised.” Edric rolls his eyes but before he can walk away Amity wraps her arms around his waist.
“Thank you,” Her voice is so quiet she’s afraid he didn’t hear her, but after a moment he turns and wraps his own arms around her smaller frame.
“Of course, Mittens.”
“Wah-- group hug without me?” Their moment is interrupted by Emira entering the room. She drops whatever outfit she was holding and races to where the other two Blight children are still hugging. She joins the pile, throwing herself over the two and they all go crashing to the floor.
“Okay, geez! Enough!” Amity laughs as she struggles to escape the pile of limbs. She manages to wriggle free and steps to the side, well out of the twins’ reach. “Em, what have you found?”
Emira jumps back up, immediately disentangling herself from Ed faster than demonly possible. She runs back to the door, where she dropped her load.
“I found a couple of options, let me know what you think.” Emira first holds up an old white suit, one that used to be Odalia’s.
“Never in a million years.” Amity states right away.
“Thank Titan. I already feel myself getting cooties from just holding it.” Emira lets the suit drop ungracefully to the ground, where it lands in a crumpled heap. Serves Odalia right.
Next Emira holds up a two piece outfit, a shirt and a skirt. They are both a forest sort of green, and the skirt is detailed with layers of blue and gold satin. It looks more costume-y than anything, in Amity’s opinion.
“Nah, what else you got?”
“So picky,” Emira huffs but relents, pulling the final outfit from the pile. Amity’s eyes go wide as she mentally traces over its outline. She reaches out, feeling the fabric between her fingers. It’s perfect.
“This is the one.” Amity smiles wide, her face lighting up. “Thank you Em! And thank you Ed! You guys are the best siblings EVER!”
“Well we try,” Edric grins and moves to ruffle Amity’s hair, but stops himself short before ruining all his hard work. Instead he settles for a light punch to her shoulder.
“Of course, Mittens. Now go knock ‘em dead!”
Amity grabs the outfit then quickly changes. She twirls around in the mirror, admiring her hair and dress, and how they compliment each other perfectly. This date is going to be perfect!

Luz stands outside the portal door, anxiously running a hand through her curls. She finally settled on an outfit, with the help of her siblings. She even FaceTimed King to get his input. She opted for a cropped, dark purple halter top and high-waisted flare pants, with dark purple stripes sewn artfully down the outside leg - courtesy of Hunter. A black turtleneck sits under her top, its long sleeves coming to a point around her middle finger. She accessories with her platform Doc boots, dangling silver earrings, and chains clasped through her belt loop. Overall, Luz thinks it's a very date-worthy outfit. She just hopes Amity thinks so as well.
Luz busies herself by picking off the few dead leaves on the bouquet she bought. Was it weird that she brought Amity flowers? Flowers seem more like a first date type of thing. This certainly isn’t Luz and Amity’s first day. But at the same time, it’s their first normal date so maybe flowers are alright? Shoot, but what if Amity is allergic to flowers? She tends to have random allergies to human world stuff - salt, watermelon and lizards, strangely. Or worse, what if Amity doesn’t like the colors Luz picked? Luz thought the pinks and purples and blues were cute, but what if Amity just thinks they’re cheesy? Luz should’ve just gone with roses.
Before Luz’s panicked thoughts can ramble on any longer, the door to the demon realm cracks open.
A cotton-candy haired goddess steps out into the light, stealing Luz’s breath away.
Amity’s hair is pulled half-up half-down, in a style that’s similar to how she used to wear it when the two first met but positioned lower on her head. She wears a long blue dress, the bottom poofing out into a tulle skirt. The neckline dips down slightly in a V and her sleeves drape elegantly off her shoulders. An abomination belt accentuates her waist and gold jewelry adorns her wrists. She wears thick combat boots nearly as high as her knees, the laces matching her belt. She did her makeup naturally, but more than she usually does.
“Luz?” Amity asks and the girl in question snaps her jaw shut, realizing she was starting to drool. “Are you alright?”
“You’re beautiful,” Luz responds honestly. Amity blushes, her entire face lighting up red. Since the two have been going out for quite a while now, Amity doesn’t blush as hard as she used to when she was simply crushing on Luz. But Luz still loves it when she can turn her batata into a tomato. “And I brought you flowers. I wasn’t sure what to get exactly, so I hope you like them.”
Luz quickly hands Amity the bouquet, gauging her girlfriend's reaction. Amity beams, and shoves her face into the flowers, taking a big inhale. When she resurfaces she has pollen stuck to her nose. Luz laughs and reaches up to wipe it away.
“Aww, thank you. You look stunning as well! Did Hunter sew the trim?”
“Ugh yes, now I have to tell him you complimented his work. Like his head isn’t big enough already.” Luz groans but a smile spreads across her face. She can’t even fake annoyance at her amazing girlfriend.
“Hmm, you’re just missing something,” Amity narrows her eyes, looking Luzup and down.
“W-what? What could I be missing? I knew I should have worn something else-” Luz starts panicking quickly analyzing her own outfit and realizing just how much of a mess she is. When she gets home, she needs to convince her Mami to take her shopping for a whole new wardrobe.
“A little something special,” Amity unclasps her moon necklace and walks the few steps to Luz, “May I?” Luz nods, the panic in her mind dying down to a light buzz. Amity then wraps the necklace around Luz’s neck, clasping it in place once more.
“How do I look?” Luz asks. She does a little spin and strikes a pose for Amity.
“Absolutely gorgeous!” Amity leans forward and lightly kisses Luz, their lips brushing together. “Now, shall we?” She holds out her hand and Luz slaps her own over it. Luz pulls Amity closer, their hands intertwined as they start walking away from the portal door and deeper into the human realm.
“We shall!”
