Chapter Text
Everyone has their own fantasy of how they want their high school life to be. Most girls dream of being the prettiest in school or the it girl as they call it, while most guys dream of making the it girl fall in love with them, or be the best in their respective sport or club.
Midoriya Izuku, however, just wanted to experience a normal student life. Due to some issues in the past and his protective parents' nature, Izuku had to be homeschooled during his middle school and they initially wanted him to stay homeschooled until college but with the help from his best friend Ochako and a lot of begging, they eventually succumbed to their son's wishes and enrolled him to U.A high, one of the best high schools in their city.
Of course, since Izuku had already started his first year at home, he had to be enrolled on his second year and had to wait before he could go. It was okay since it gave him time to prepare for his first day back in a real school.
And today was the day.
Izuku stood at the front of U.A high, staring up in awe on how massive it was. He didn't know if he felt excited, nervous, or perhaps both but he was determined to make the most of this opportunity especially since it was his dream school.
U.A high was known to enhance each of their students' individual quirks and talents, they're known to produce the best of the best students. They have a wide variety of clubs that cater to particular niches. They are the only high school that doesn't restrict their students from wearing uniforms as they believe clothes tell a lot about a person. They believe that students should be able to express who they are through their fashion.
Izuku looks around as he observed all the other students walking towards the school. 'Wow! Look at them...they all look so amazing!' He thought to himself, admiring how other the students looked. There were cosplayers wearing their cosplays, fashion icons wearing trendy outfits, and even a group of friends that wore matching clothes. 'I should do my best to dress better next time.' He notes, looking down at his own outfit.
Due to the fact that it was his first day and he wasn't a hundred percent sure what to wear, he decided on wearing a simple, green hoodie and pants. He could see that some of other students giving him a side-eye, and he was certain that it was because how it looked.
As he continued to stand idly, he didn't even notice that someone was walking towards him, until the person spoke. "Excuse me?" Izuku's head snapped towards the direction where the voice came from, his eyes fell upon a tall man wearing glasses and a uniform that Izuku recognized immediately.
'A student council member.' Izuku thought with wide eyes as he bowed to show respect to the stranger. "H-Hello! My name is Midoriya Izuku! I'm a transfer student...how...how may I help you?" Izuku wanted to slap himself for stuttering so much as he straightened up again. The stranger's eyes widened as well in shock but it seemed to Izuku that it wasn't because of his sudden bowing.
"Your name is Midoriya Izuku? Did I hear that right?" Izuku nods making the stranger push his glasses up a bit, there seemed to be a small unreadable glint in his eyes. Izuku wanted to ask if there was anything wrong with his name but then the stranger spoke again. "I am Midorima Shintarou. I'm the student council president here at U.A high. The reason I approached you was because you have been standing at the entrance for ten minutes and I was wondering if you were lost or in need of assistance."
Izuku's face turned beet red as soon as he heard that, he immediately raised his hands and shook them. "No, no, no. I'm sorry! I...uh...was just excited and got lost in thought! I didn't mean to stand here for so long....This is so embarrassing."
"That doesn't matter now. As long as you're a student here, that's fine. Do you know where your class is? You better move now or else you will be late for your class."
"Oh. Yeah. I'm in the same class as my friend, uh, yeah. Class 2-A."
"Great. Well then, I hope you enjoy your first day, Midoriya Izuku." Shintarou bows slightly and Izuku hums in response, he didn't expect that the student council president of U.A high would be this kind. Based from Ochako's words before, he said that their student council were terrifying but that doesn't seem to be the case for the president.
"Well, I'll get going now. Thank you so much, Midorima-senpai!" Izuku exclaims about to go but before he could go, Shintarou suddenly blocks his path which surprises Izuku. "Uhm. Senpai?" He asked, not understanding what's going on.
"Apologies. I couldn't help my curiosity as to why you transferred here as a second year? I'm sure you know that the acceptance rate for new students alone is low as our school choose only the best and smartest. It's even more rare for them to accept transferees that join on their second year. You must really be exceptional."
"Ah...No. I don't think I'm that exceptional? I was uh..." Izuku awkwardly laughs, rubbing the back of his neck gently as he avoided Shintarou's gaze. "Homeschooled. They were skeptical with letting me join but I guess they saw my grades? So yeah..."
"Hmm. Interesting." Shintarou says with a flat tone, making Izuku look at him only to see that the older boy was staring at him. 'He's making me feel really self-conscious.' Izuku thought to himself. "Well, since most of the students here have already formed connections and joined their respective cliques, you might find yourself having a hard time socializing, but ah, you did mention you had a friend here, which is fine."
Honestly, Izuku didn't know where their conversation was going. Shintarou seemed to be stalling but he wasn't sure considering he didn't have enough social skills to determine what exactly was going on. "Yeah..." Was all Izuku could respond wanting to just end the conversation and look for Ochako to officially start his first day. He was looking for an excuse to go but he couldn't bring himself to say anything because one, this was U.A high's student council president, and two, he's the first person that wasn't Ochako to talk to him.
Luckily for him though, Shintarou stepped away, adjusting his glasses once more. "Alright. I've kept you long enough, you can go ahead now but before that..." Shintarou glances behind Izuku, his face twisting into a look of displeasure. "May I get your contact number? You seem like an interesting fellow. I might consider introducing you to other students as well."
With that, Izuku's whole face lightened up and his eyes widen. "Really? Wow. That's uh wow! Thank you so much, Midorima-senpai! That's so kind of you!" He exclaimed. He didn't think he'd have this much progress with making friends on his first day. This was a big step to his dream of having a normal student life in his dream school. "Do you want me to write it on a paper or--"
"Just dictating it is fine. I have impeccable memory. Now quickly, or else you'll be late for class." Shintarou responds swiftly, almost as if he was suddenly rushing. Izuku was taken aback by that but he was still happy nonetheless so he dictates his phone number while Shintarou just nods with every number he hears. "Got it. Thank you, Midoriya-kun. You may go now and I hope you have a lovely first day."
Izuku bows. "Thank you so much! And it was nice meeting you, Senpai--" As Izuku straightens up and took a step behind and start walking, but unexpectedly, he felt his back collide with something or someone. Instinctively, Izuku turns around to bow yet again to apologize profusely to whoever he hit. "Oh my gosh. I am so so--" He could hear the person he hit groan and for some reason, he could also hear whispers from bystanders around him.
"Did you see that? He just hit Bakugou Katsuki."
"Well, he's doomed."
"He looks like a new student too. Man, it'd suck to be him right now."
"Watch it, fucking nerd. Are you blind or something?!" The stranger, apparently named Katsuki, yells, making Izuku flinch and keep his head down.
"I'm sorry. I am really sorry! I didn't mean too. I wasn't looking where I was going!"
"Obviously. You better be thankful that I have something to do or your ass would've been kicked by now." Katsuki said and Izuku felt a hand push him to the side causing him to fall on the ground with a thud. Izuku whimpers in pain as he turned his head up to look at this Bakugou Katsuki person. "Get out of my fucking sight."
A blonde student with spikey hair and blood red eyes sneered down at him, he was wearing a long coat-like jacket that seemed to look like it came straight out of the anime Tokyo Revengers. A few gasps could be heard all around them but no one helped, he glanced at Shintarou who seemed to have a disgusted look on his face.
Izuku was about to say another apology but yet another person joined in. "Midoriya-kun!" This time, it was the familiar voice of Ochako, much to Izuku's relief. His brunette friend rushed to his side, clinging onto his arms as he pulled him away quickly, not even giving him time to say good bye to Shintarou or say a final apology to Bakugou Katsuki, despite the fact that the boy pushed him, it was still his fault.
"Uraraka-san!" Izuku exclaims after they were out of earshot of the two boys but Ochako did not respond, she just kept pulling and walking towards the entrance of the school. "Uraraka-san, hey. Why aren't you answering me? Hello?"
Again, she did not respond.
"I'm getting out of breath with all the walking."
Almost an instant, Ochako stops dead in her tracks as she looked at Izuku worriedly as she dropped his arm to inspect his body. "Are you okay, Midoriya-kun? Did he hurt you? Did he punch you anywhere? What did he do?"
'He? Does he mean the guy I bumped into or Shintarou-senpai?' Izuku thought to himself as he placed a hand on his friend's shoulders in an attempt to calm her down. "I'm fine, really, don't worry. I just bumped into someone and got pushed a bit. It's not a big deal." Really, it wasn't. Sure, having bad blood with someone on his first day of school wasn't ideal but even the most perfect people get hiccups, so it's not a problem.
It's a big school as well, it's not like they'll ever see each other again.
Ochako seemed to calm down a bit when she saw that Izuku was genuinely okay but she was still concerned. "You got off pretty good. That guy you hit earlier, he's very, very, and I mean, VERY bad news, Midoriya-kun."
"You might be exaggerating a bit, don't you think? How can one single guy be bad news? I mean, he seems to have anger issues but he doesn't seem all bad. Besides..." Izuku blushes a bit. "He's kind of cute." This earned him a 'wtf?' look from Ochako.
"Midoriya-kun, he pushed you and was basically sneering at you like a rabid dog. How is he cute? Ah. Never mind your questionable taste in people, I am not exaggerating." Ochako grabs both sides of Izuku and pulled him closer, whispering. "That boy is Bakugou Katsuki, he's the leader of U.A high's gang and I know that you're wondering. How come a big, prestigious school like this one let a student form a gang filled with delinquents when it's supposed to be producing great talents and geniuses well..."
Ochako looks around to make sure no one was listening then continued. "Apparently, Bakugou Katsuki's family is super freaking rich! And I heard that there are countless of other gangs in the city that always pick on rich students so they let Bakugou katsuki and his group handle them instead, basically turning a blind eye to whatever he does, and he is mean. He beats up anyone who crosses him, cusses out any teachers, barely even attends classes, and no one bats an eye. You could've been dead meat just for accidentally hitting him. The student council absolutely hate him."
'That explains Shintarou-senpai's expression earlier.' Izuku furrowed his eyebrows a bit. "That is a bit scary but he let me go and doesn't know my name since I'm a new student so...I'm safe, right?" Ochako nods as she slowly lets go off Izuku.
"Yes. Let's just hope we never cross paths with him ever. Now, with all that out of the way..." Izuku tilts his head a bit to the side, waiting for what Ochako has to say next, she spread her arms high and wide as her worried look morphed into a cheerful one. "Welcome to U.A high! Gosh. I've waited long enough! I'm so glad we get to be classmates again!" She exclaimed loudly, making other students glance at them weirdly. Izuku felt a bit embarrassed but he was happy.
"Thank you, Uraraka-san! I wouldn't have been able to if you hadn't convinced my parents and brother!"
"Of course! Now, we get to spend the rest of our high school life together and oh! I'll have to introduce you to my friends here, they already know about you! They're in our class, so we better get going now!"
Izuku nods, excited to meet even more new people, completely forgetting about what happened earlier. "Lead the way!" He says as he offered his hand to Ochako, which she gladly took as she began leading Izuku to their classroom. Izuku could feel buzzing from his pocket, indicating he had a text, but he assumed it was someone from his family so he ignored it and just continued to follow Ochako as she also gave him a mini-tour as they walked, explaining each room and each place they walked past them.
After Ochako showed Izuku the whole U.A high campus and then their classroom, she immediately introduces him to their classmates, who happily greeted him. Apparently, what Shintarou said was true, their school did not usually accept second year transferees because they knew, most of the times, people who transfer on their second year were most likely the ones who were rejected on the freshmen exams.
The series of tests, interviews, and background checks done for second year transfers were even more brutal than for first years. So, Izuku was considered special. So, despite the fact that he basically went to school in plain clothing, which Ochako scolded him for, his classmates didn't mind. He also befriended Ochako's friends, Class 2-A's representative, Iida Tenya, and a girl named Asui Tsuyu, who Izuku thought kind of resembled a cute frog.
Everything was going well. Everything was supposed to be going well.
But as their last teacher before their lunch break was teaching, yes, teaching. Apparently as well, second year students don't need orientation considering they already spent a year there. So, on their first day, they already conduct lessons. Izuku expected no less from a school like U.A high.
However...
Bzz...
Bzzz....
Izuku's eye twitched in embarrassment as his phone buzzed and buzzed from his pocket. He could feel the stares beside and behind him as he tried to ignore it, hoping that whoever it was could just stop.
Bzz...
When their first period started, his phone's notification would go off but only for a bit. So, he didn't mind it at first, but now that it was the last teacher before lunch time, it buzzed like crazy. He didn't understand who was messaging him because it couldn't have been his parents or siblings. If it was, then Ochako's phone would be buzzing too because she was close to them, and if they can't contact Izuku, they'd contact Ochako.
Bzz...
Izuku wanted the earth to swallow him whole. It was a miracle that the teacher did not pay attention to the buzzing as he kept willfully teaching in front of the class. Well, that's what Izuku thought until...
"Midoriya Izuku, as much as you are considered an honorable student for being a transferee. I don't think it's acceptable for you to let whoever is messaging you wait any longer seeing as they're trying their very best to contact you." Aizawa Shouta, one of his teachers, spoke in a calm manner. "Please, just answer them and take it outside. I cannot listen to that constant buzzing any further."
"I'm so sorry, Sensei." Was all Izuku could say as he stood up and bowed to his teacher then to his classmates. "I'm so sorry for the disruption, everyone! I-I will just...check this out and come back." He glances at Ochako who looks at him with worried eyes though Izuku was sure she knew it probably wasn't family related.
"It's fine, Midoriya-san! It seems important so go ahead! It's almost lunch break too." Tenya said stiffly but genuine as he gives Izuku a thumbs up, everyone else nodded in agreement. Izuku smiles gratefully as he grabbed his phone from his pocket and walked outside the room, finally checking to see who was blowing it up with messages and calls, to his surprise and slight fear, he saw that the messages were all from an unknown number.
Unknown Number.
7:30a.m
Unknown: Why did you change your number?
Unknown: Angel eyes, please answer me.
Unknown: Izuku.
"Angel eyes? Who is this..." Izuku mumbled under his breath as he continued to read the weird text messages.
11:45a.m
Unknown: It's almost lunch time. Can't you meet up with me? Please. I still love you, angel eyes.
Unknown: I know you're with someone else now but fuck it.
Unknown: Please, Izuku.
Unknown: I still love you so, so much.
Unknown: My heart will always belong to you.
Unknown: Answer me, please.
Unknown: Eat lunch with me later. Okay? And let's talk. I'll wait for you.
Izuku felt very confused. One, he has never been in a relationship before. Two, he doesn't even know other people besides Ochako and now his new classmates. So, it didn't make sense that someone was begging to meet up with him, and professing their undying love. He was debating whether or not he should respond back to the person considering it could just be a prank and he should just ignore it but then his phone buzzes again.
11:53a.m
Unknown: Izuku! I can see that you've at least seen my messages. Please respond to me.
"The IMessage feature. I forgot." Izuku wanted to facepalm himself as he didn't notice that the stranger's messages were blue, indicating that whoever was messaging him was also an apple user, which meant they could see when Izuku has seen their messages.
11:54a.m
Izuku: I'm really sorry. I don't know how you got this number or how you know my name but I am not the person you are looking for.
Izuku: Please do not message me again. I hope, whoever you're looking for, responds to you.
Izuku decided on a more kind approach, considering this person could actually be going through something. He also didn't want any more bad blood because whoever this person was seemed to be from the school. He hasn't forgotten that he gave his number to Shintarou earlier and it could've been just some other student from here. Perhaps, this could even be a test of his character or something.
11:54a.m
Unknown: Bullshit, Izuku. I don't know what you're playing at by pretending you don't know who I am but this is too painful.
Unknown: Whatever I did. I am sorry, okay?
Izuku: How did you get this number?
Unknown: Your big brother gave it to me. I pestered him for it okay? So please, just tell me what I fucking did and I can fix it.
Unknown: I can change. I can be whoever you want, do whatever the fuck you want. Just come back to me, angel eyes.
'My brother? Did Tomura-nii give someone my number?' Izuku thought to himself with a frown, it was unlikely but no one besides Ochako would know that he has a big brother since he doesn't share his private life with others. Shintarou couldn't have known either, so that officially crosses him out from the list. Still, it didn't make sense for Tomura to play a prank on him or even give his number to someone, he was the embodiment of the word overprotective.
11:56a.m
Izuku: That doesn't make sense. My brother would never give my number to a stranger.
Unknown: Stranger? Is that what you're calling me now, Izuku? A fucking stranger?
Izuku: Yes.
Izuku: If this is a joke. Please stop. It's not funny anymore. It's crossing a lot of lines.
Unknown: You're breaking my heart, angel eyes.
Izuku: Please stop with the nickname. I am not who you may think I am.
Unknown: Is your name Izuku?
Izuku: Yes
Unknown: Then you're who I'm looking for. I know you're mad at me, I know you want to do everything you can to get rid off me but please. Just meet up with me during lunch time. Okay?
Unknown: I'll be waiting, Izuku. Please.
Izuku: I don't know who you are! Really I don't.
11:59a.m
Izuku: Hello?
Izuku: This really isn't funny.
As the stranger stopped replying, Izuku frustratedly shoves his phone back into his pocket. He didn't know why. He was usually a very patient person but whoever was texting him really irked him. He couldn't tell if it was because he basically got kicked out of class to deal with the person, or because the person was being so adamant on saying they knew each other. They couldn't have.
The school bell rings indicating that it was time for their lunch break, and as if on cue students began pouring out from their classes, loud chattering could be heard from every corner of the halls. Izuku decided to wait for Ochako before heading to the cafeteria to tell her about the mystery texter.
"So let me get this straight..." Ochako spoke with a mouthful of food inside her mouth as she pointed her sandwich towards Izuku who was silently eating his salad. "This stranger somehow got your number and knows you by name, and he's acting like you two were previously in a relationship and then he's begging you to meet him?"
Izuku hums as he nodded. "Yup. I don't know him but...he knows that I have a brother so...agh. This is all so confusing, and on my first day of school too." He buried his face on the palm of his hands. "What should I do, Uraraka-san?"
"The only logical thing, Midoriya." Tsuyu spoke turning her head towards her new friend. "Don't do anything. It might just be someone your brother knows from this school and is playing a trick on you. Either that or some weirdo. Either way, don't worry too much. Enjoy your first day."
"I agree with Tsuyu-chan."
"Call me Tsu."
"Ah. Yeah! I forgot...I agree with Tsu. Just let him be, Midoriya-kun. You already said he stopped messaging, right? Everything will be okay."
Izuku peaks through his fingers to look at his friends. He knew they were right. It was probably just a silly prank or a student who just happened to know his name. Hell. Someone could've been eavesdropping when he was telling Shintarou his name and number. With that realization, he calmed down a bit as he uncovers his face. "You're right. I might just be overthinking it."
"Oh, you definitely are. Don't be so jumpy, Midoriya-kun. You're in U.A high now, besides the fact that there's a gang here, it's the safest school!"
"Uraraka-san is right. Weird texter aside, it's lunch break is almost over. So, we better head back. Miss Nemuri...or Midnight-sensei as we call her, doesn't like it when students are late for her class."
"Why do you guys call her Midnight-sensei?"
Ochako shrugs. "She asked us to. Apparently, she thinks Nemuri wasn't the right name for her destiny and she felt like the name Midnight is."
"Strange..."
"I know right? She's a pretty cool teacher though so we don't bother her much." Ochako crumples the paper that covered her sandwich earlier and shoved it inside her pocket because there weren't any trash bins near them. She, along with Tsuyu, stood up from their seats as they grabbed their bags with them. Izuku decided to follow as well.
"I can't wait to meet her then! Our teachers so far are pretty cool though Aizawa-sensei scares me a bit." Izuku mumbles the last part, afraid that the teacher he was speaking of might be somewhere near them. Ochako and Tsuyu laughs a bit.
"You were actually lucky he didn't throw your phone out of the window or threaten to expel you. He must really like you a lot. On our first day with him as our homeroom adviser, he made us do a series of tests and challenges telling us that he'll expel the one with the lowest points and scores." Ochako said with a look of dread on her face as she recalled that day. "It was gruesome."
"True. I still have nightmares about it sometimes."
"When did you find out it was fake and no one was getting expelled then?" Izuku asked, tilting his head a bit as they begin heading towards the class. Ochako looks at him with pure fear.
"It wasn't fake though. The one with the lowest score and points was Mineta Minoru, he got kicked out of school not even a day after. I heard rumors that he cried his way out of the school. I felt so bad for him!"
Tsuyu shrugged. "I didn't. He seemed like a creep from day one. It was more of a good riddance."
"Well...I kind of agree with you on that. Still, it meant it could've happened to anyone!"
That's true and now that Izuku knew that, he couldn't help but gulp nervously. If his phone had bothered Shouta any further, there was a chance he could've gotten kicked out on his first day. How crazy was that? Luckily for him, his teacher was in a better mood which caused him to take the matter lightly. Either that, or the teacher assumed it was an emergency and didn't want to be insensitive. Either way, Izuku was so grateful.
"I'll make sure to never make Aizawa-sensei disappointed in me and make him want me to get kicked out. I swear to every God that exists!" Izuku exclaims as he pumped his hand enthusiastically. 'All I need is for the texter to stop constantly messaging me in class, though I don't think that'll be hard considering he isn't messaging me anymore.'
Bzz...
Bzzz..
'Ah. I spoke too soon.' As much as Izuku didn't want to look, he had to especially since both Ochako and Tsuyu's heads snapped to look at his pocket where his phone was located. Izuku sighs as he slowly pulled out his phone to check who messaged him, and much to his horror, it was the mystery guy.
Unknown Number.
1:02p.m
Unknown: Izuku
Unknown: I waited for you for an hour. You didn't show up.
Unknown: Where are you?
Unknown: Angel eyes
Unknown: Come on.
"It's him again." Izuku mumbles, showing the message to Ochako and Tsuyu. Their eyes moved to read each message he received, he only retracted his phone when he felt it buzz again. "Another message."
"Try responding to him again. See what he's going to say now."
"Do I have to?"
"Yes." Ochako and Tsuyu said in unison, making Izuku huff a bit.
1:04p.m
Unknown: Izuku?
Izuku: I'm sorry. I just...
Izuku: I never agreed to meet up with you and again...I really don't know you.
Unknown: You're still going to keep up the act? Jesus. Do you hate me that fucking much?
Unknown: I don't even know what went wrong with us! At least give me a fucking explanation.
Unknown: I'm doing my best here, Izuku. I'm trying! You always tell me to try and now that I am, you're pushing me away and dating that
Unknown: That poor brown-haired freak you call your childhood best friend.
"Wow. Okay, that's just...wow. Jesus Christ. You know what? I know I said you were over-reacting but this is just annoying now." Ochako said as she grabbed the phone from Izuku's hands. "Let me borrow this for awhile, Midoriya-kun."
"W-What are you doing, Uraraka-san?"
"I'm going to play along with his game. I'll show him who's poor and a freak."
"Wow. This is my first time seeing Uraraka-san acting like this."
"She's a bit touchy when people call her poor..."
"I am not touchy. I just don't think being poor should be used as an insult! I'm not even that poor. I'm just not well-off!" Ochako spoke as she typed on the phone, glaring at it with full intensity. Izuku was almost afraid that his phone would break. "He won't leave you alone either. God knows how long he plans on texting you. Even if you block him, he knows your number and might just use someone else's phone to prank you."
"You...think so? Then what do you plan on doing?"
"Just watch."
1:09p.m
Izuku: Honestly, I'm getting sick and tired of you.
Izuku: Okay, I'm Izuku. So what? I don't want to hear from you.
Izuku: Why can't you just leave me alone?
Unknown: Izuku...
Unknown: Don't be like that, angel eyes.
Izuku: Stop with the dramatics. You're just bothering me at this point.
Izuku: Stop constantly texting me. I already got in trouble once because of your constant texting.
Unknown: Pfft. You? getting in trouble? I doubt that.
Izuku: Ugh. You are so annoying. Just leave me alone!
Unknown: No. Not until we talk in person.
Unknown: I'll only leave you alone if you tell me to right to my face.
Unknown: If you do, then I'll leave you alone.
Izuku: Fine.
"Wait. Wait...What?! Uraraka-san, why did you agree?" Izuku asked with wide-eyes as he stopped dead on his tracks due to shock. "I don't want to meet with him! Seriously...W-What are you doing?"
Ochako rolled her eyes a bit. "Let's give him what he wants. To meet with you, to talk, and let's see how far this guy will go with pranking you. Let go along with his trick for now. We all know he's not an ex because you don't even know what a relationship looks like besides seeing your mom and step-dad. I'm sure he wouldn't expect us to actually meet with him too, so he'll be pretty embarrassed. Don't you think?"
"Isn't that a bit mean though?"
"Who cares, Midoriya-kun? He's the one being mean to you first! You have to start giving back the same energy as others give you. You can't always be nice to jerks." Ochako pats the top of Izuku's head. "Besides, I'll go with you to meet with him."
Izuku wanted to refute but he could see the determination in her eyes to help him, seeing as he was so frustrated over so many things happening on his first day of school, Ochako probably wants to ease his thoughts. So, as much as he didn't like the idea, he just nods, making her smile grow bigger. "I might go with you depending on where and when it is." Tsuyu joined in. "Ask him where to meet up, Uraraka-san."
"On it."
1:13p.m
Unknown: You mean it?
Unknown: Izuku?
Izuku: Yes.
Izuku: When and where do you want to meet up?
Izuku: I'll go there.
Unknown: Fuck.
Unknown: You don't know how happy that just made me.
Unknown: Let's meet up after school since I know how much you hate missing classes.
Izuku: Okay. Where?
Unknown: At the KTV club near school? Table number 3 as usual.
Izuku: Got it. Please stop texting me until then.
Unknown: Okay. You won't regret meeting up with me. I promise, angel eyes.
Unknown: I love you.
"The KTV club? isn't that where the cool kids hang out after school? So, this prankster really is a student here. How peculiar." Tsuyu mumbles as she glanced at Izuku who seemed to be having indigestion. "I won't be able to go with you because I have to prepare the forms for club recruitment day for our amphibian club. Please update me though."
"Of course, Tsu! I'm a hundred percent sure this guy won't show up and would stop messaging Midoriya-kun because he's no longer acting the way he does."
"What does acting the way I do mean?"
"No offense, Midoriya-kun, but you're such an easy target for pranks with your innocent, transferee look. Like I said earlier, you're too kind. Any jerk would love to play tricks on people like you, and that what we're trying to avoid. If this stranger tells people that you're an easy person to fool, your whole school life will be about people trying to prank you!"
"And how does acting like I believe him now and going to the KTV club prevent that exactly? Aren't we just giving him what he wants as well? Having me believe him is his goal?"
"No, confusing you is his goal, get any frustration out from you just for laughs. I told you, he won't show up and when he doesn't just give me the phone and I'll mock him till he wishes he never messaged you at all."
"Wow. Remind me never to cross Uraraka-san or call her poor." Izuku nods in agreement to Tsuyu's question. As much as he understood his best friend's anger and her motivation, there was something in Izuku's gut that was telling him that this was wrong but then again, nothing leads to this being true. Well, the stranger's desperation felt so real. It reminded him of those male characters from novels that beg their lovers to come back, they would grovel and cry just for their lover.
But again, it was impossible for any of it to be real because the stranger knew his name and all roads lead to it being a prank. So, he just lets it be. 'I have a really bad feeling about this.' He thought to himself.
School went by fast and it was already dismissal time. The mysterious texter stayed true to his words and did not bother Izuku the rest of the day. At the moment, Izuku, Ochako, and Tenya (who insisted on accompanying them) were walking inside the KTV club, and Izuku was amazed.
"Wow. This place looks so cool." Izuku said in awe as he looked around. The place had a colorful theme going on, with different colored tables and chairs, there were posters of different idols everywhere along with a booth that sells knock-off merch. There was a big stage at the front where there were a few students were standing and singing while on the side of the stage there was a machine where you can input your song number.
"Right? This place is always packed with students from our school who love singing and dancing, or just want to watch others sing and dance for fun. I could never sing in front of so many students but luckily they have private KTV booths too." Ochako pointed to a door that says 'Private KTV booths'
Tenya sighs. "I can never understand the joy of singing in the presence of other people in general unless you plan on being an idol. I find that it's better to use every minute of your time to hone what you're good at for your future." Izuku chuckles a bit at that, he already noted that Tenya was a bit strict and he values each and every minute a person has which is why he usually sticks to a schedule.
"Why did you even come with us, Iida-kun?" Ochako asked as she looked around, looking for the table they were supposed to go to. Tenya adjusted his glasses as he glanced at Ochako.
"As I said to you earlier in the classroom, I do not think it is safe for you to meet up with a complete stranger even if it is in a public place. Who knows what could happen? I cannot, in good conscience, let you two do this alone."
"Iida-kun, that's so nice of you!" Izuku exclaimed with a smile. He couldn't believe how nice his new friends are. Honestly, he was kind of expecting that at least a few of his classmates would be hostile towards him because he's a transferee, but no one has showed him anything but kindness especially Tenya and Tsuyu, who were Ochako's friends.
"I am your class representative, president, and now friend. Of course, I will be kind. Now, where are you even supposed to meet this hoodlum?"
Ochako hums, still looking around, and after a few minutes she jumps, making both Izuku and Tenya jump along with her as she pointed to a green table that had the number three on it. "There! The guy said table number three. It's that table. We're supposed to meet him there." She grabs both Izuku and Tenya's arms and pulls them towards the direction of the table.
"What is it with you today and pulling, Uraraka-san."
"You walk too slow, Midoriya-kun."
"Ah."
"Why am I being pulled as well?"
"You might end up seeing something you don't like and scold someone for tarnishing our school's name."
"Ah."
With that, the two boys just followed along Ochako until they were finally on the table. All three of them put their things on the chairs and took a seat. Izuku lets out a sigh as soon as he was seated, taking his phone out to see if there were any messages from the mystery guy only to see there were none. 'Hm. It seems like Uraraka-san was right. He might not show up after all.' He thought as he glanced at Ochako and Tenya who were watching the student who was currently performing.
"Do you think he's coming?" Izuku asks, grabbing the attention of Ochako who smiles evilly.
"Whether he does or doesn't, he loses either way. You can't keep a prank going on like this forever. I just want to know how he got your name and number." Ah. Izuku completely forgot to tell Ochako his realization that the prankster could be someone who eavesdropped on his conversation with Shintarou earlier, which made perfect sense.
"Actually, about that...I think--"
"Oi, extras."
Izuku pauses as he heard someone speak to them. All three heads turned to look at who the person was and all color drained from their faces, even Izuku could not forget that face. Low and behold, there he was, the so called gang leader of U.A High, the one who would beat up anyone who crosses him, the person Izuku wanted to avoid.
Bakugou Katsuki.
None of them know why he was there, or why he was talking to them. Izuku wondered if it was because of him accidentally hitting the blonde but he couldn't have remembered? Right? There was no possible way someone like Izuku was easy to remember. When none of them answered Katsuki, his eyes narrowed down "Are you three fucking deaf? Am I not talking to anyone or do I have to slap the shit out of the three of you to get any form of sound?"
"U-Uh...Yes? What's wrong, Bakugou-kun. Uh....How can we help you?" It was Ochako who spoke up.
"You can help me by getting the fuck away from that table. I want to sit down." Katsuki slowly approached them and they instinctively backed away, though still not getting away from their seats. This seemed to piss Katsuki off even more. "I'm giving you three five seconds to scram and I highly suggest you do it now while I'm still being kind." He grabs Ochako and Tenya's bags, since it was closest to him, and threw them to the side, making Izuku's friends gasp in shock.
For some reason, this made Izuku angry especially when he glanced at the other students around them and saw that they were only whispering and staring not even attempting to help them. Ochako looks at Izuku and pulls him up, Tenya following afterwards. "Let's go. Let's go now." She whispers.
"I agree. This is not a person we should be angering."
"No."
Ochako and Tenya's heads snapped towards Izuku as he pulled his arm away from Ochako. He looked at Katsuki who now made his way towards their table and sat on the chair he was previously sitting on. This was the first time anyone has made his blood boil.
"Midoriya-kun, what are you doing? Hey. Let's just go."
Izuku shook his head and marched towards the table, placing his hand firmly on top of it. "Hey, Bakugou Katsuki-kun. You're being a little too mean right now. I get it that you're in some sort of gang but you have no right to throw my friends' things away."
Slowly, Katsuki raises his head to look at the person who had the audacity to say that to him, and for a moment Izuku felt afraid because Katsuki's stare felt menacing. "Hah? Are you actually talking back to me right now? You? A fucking extra? You're probably new here right? So, I'll let you go because I'm in a good mood. No one and I mean, no one talks to me that way, you hear me? You're a fucking nobody. You barely even look like you can fight. Take my fucking advice and run along before I get mad."
Izuku's eyebrow twitched in annoyance. He couldn't believe this guy. He was too much even for Izuku, who was naturally a forgiving person, but this guy in front of him was the embodiment of evil. Izuku's sense of justice can't let someone like this go. Before he could get the chance to speak even more, he felt two hands pull him away, making him let out a small gasp in shock.
"We're so sorry about him, Bakugou-kun. You're right, he's new. He doesn't know any better." Ochako said as she kept bowing over and over as she walked back.
"What? Why are you sorry, Uraraka-san? There are so many free tables here and he decided that--" A hand covered his mouth, and this time it was Tenya, who seemed very frightened.
"We'll just get ourselves out of your hair and switch to another table. Thank you for being so kind to us."
'Seriously? Seriously? Even Iida-kun is afraid of him?' Izuku mentally groans, not wanting to fight anymore because it was already too late since his friends had already shoved him to another table, much to his dismay. "What was that, Uraraka-san? Iida-kun? Why are we just letting him do what he wants outside of school? I get it that you're all afraid of him inside the campus because he's protected by teachers, though I still don't understand why that's a thing because Uraraka-san mentioned he beats people up...but even outside?"
Ochako and Tenya both shared a look as they sighed. "You have to understand, Midoriya-kun. You don't see how serious this is yet because this is your first time experiencing it but the gang isn't just inside the school, it's outside. Bakugou Katsuki alone is scary but he has friends that would probably go to jail for him. He may not attack us but if word gets out you just tried fighting back, his friends will mess with you."
"You mean...they'll beat me up?"
Ochako shook her head. "It'd be better if they just beat you up honestly. What I mean is, they'll make your life a living hell until you just give up and drop out. I've seen that happen once or twice. I heard it's not pretty. So, please, for the love of God just let him be."
"But he isn't even doing anything! He's just sitting there. He doesn't seem like the type of person who goes to these places."
"Quite contrary. He actually goes here a lot." Tenya was the one who spoke as they stared at the blonde who was now silently sitting on Table number three. "I went to middle school with Bakugou Katsuki, funny enough. Our middle school is quite near here and I would always see him and his girlfriend, well, now ex-girlfriend come here."
"Ex-girlfriend? Someone actually dated him?" Ochako asked, raising an eyebrow.
Tenya nods. "Yes. She is actually in our school too. She's smart, pretty, and part of the student council. People call her the angel of U.A high with how flawless she is."
"I bet he was a terrible boyfriend." Izuku mumbles as he placed his chin on top of his palm. "I may not know a thing about love but I know someone with a personality like that won't last long with anyone."
"Again, quite contrary. They dated from middle school until our first year. If there's anything good to note about him was that he treated his girlfriend like a queen. Hmm...hold on. If I can remember correctly, you have the same name as his ex-girlfriend. Your full name is Midoriya Izuku, correct?" Izuku nods. "His ex's name, as far as I know, is Midorima Izuku, though I find it weird how masculine her name is."
"Wow and she goes here? Why haven't I heard of her until now?" Ochako asked again as she looks at Tenya. "I swear, I'd know if someone famous in our class is named Izuku as well."
"She's not from our class, though we are the same grade. She usually dislikes it when others call her by her first name, as far as I know only Bakugou-kun is allowed to call her by her first name, and perhaps her brother as well, I believe you know her brother, the student council president, Midorima Shintarou.
"Oh yeah. I managed to talk to him earlier--" Izuku's eyes widened as the realization dawned at him. When he talked to Shintarou earlier and introduced himself, the student council president seemed very interested. After that, Shintarou asked for his number. Not long after that, Katsuki appeared out of nowhere to talk to Shintarou.
And just moments after that, he started receiving messages from someone Izuku apparently broke up with. 'No, no. It can't be....Can it?' His eyes landed on Bakugou Katsuki, who continued to quietly sit on Table number three the table that the mysterious texter told him to go to. 'Please tell me I'm just overthinking.' Katsuki seemed to be waiting for someone as he kept glancing at the entrance. All the color from Izuku's face drained, and Ochako noticed this.
"Midoriya-kun? Are you okay? You look unwell."
Izuku felt like he was about to have a panic attack. He wanted to get out of there. All of his information were too connected to be a coincidence but he wished it was just a coincidence but everything just made sense. Both him and Katsuki's ex share a name and both had an older brother. The only difference between them was Izuku has never been in a relationship.
And she has.
'Oh god. Oh God. We made a terrible mistake. Oh God.'
Ochako grabs Izuku's hands and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Midoriya-kun, talk to me. Are you okay? Are you sick? What's happening?" She said, her tone laced with concern. By this time, Tenya was also looking at him concerned. Izuku turns his head to look at Ochako, fear was evident in his eyes as he whispered.
"I think Bakugou Katsuki is the mystery texter." Ochako gasps as she immediately glanced at Katsuki then at Izuku again. She was about to say something but then Izuku's worst fear came true as they heard a loud, booming voice from the direction where Katsuki was.
"Hey if it isn't the newly broken hearted douchebag, Bakugou Katsuki!" A huge man that was wearing uniform that was from a different school said loudly, making everyone stop what they were doing to look at them. "What the fuck are you doing here all alone. Huh?" Behind the man where other students wearing the same uniform, all looked like they were in their 30s but based from their uniforms, they were the same grade as them.
"This seems bad." Tenya whispered to them, making Ochako nod in agreement. "I think we should go now. Those are students from a nearby public school. They are not friendly."
"Hold on..." Ochako whispered back as she shook Izuku slightly. "Midoriya-kun, what do you mean Bakugou-kun is the mystery texter? How did you came to that conclusion?" Slowly, Izuku was calming himself down. This was no time to panic especially since he sees that Ochako was getting really, really concerned and he didn't want to worry her much. Izuku took a few deep breaths then answered.
"I was talking to Midorima-senpai earlier, he asked for my name and number, I forgot the reason why he asked for my number but he did. I'm sure he was interested in my name because I have almost the same exact name as his sister, Bakugou Katsuki's ex, and after he pushed me aside and you took me away, I could see them talk. The fact that the mystery texter is asking an Izuku to take him back. As Iida-kun mentioned...Bakugou Katsuki has an ex-girlfriend named Izuku, and he made us get away from table number three."
Izuku watched as the group of students were speaking to Katsuki, who didn't even bother looking at them. He was just staring at his phone. "If that is the case, why would Midorima-senpai even give him your number? That sounds unlike him. He's a well-mannered person. I don't think he'd use a new student who happens to have the same name as his sister to trick Bakugou-kun?"
"Well...it's rather likely, actually." Tenya sighs. "I heard that Midorima-senpai hated Bakugou-kun. Not only because he's a ruffian and delinquent, but also because Midorima-senpai has a sister complex. It could be possible that Bakugou-kun is still pestering his sister so when Midoriya-kun popped up he saw it as a sign to lure Bakugou-kun away."
'Well, that's just mean.' Izuku thought filled with dread. "But then again, we're not sure. It can all be just a big coincidence?" Ochako said, unsure. "I mean, we don't really have any concrete proo--"
"So, Bakugou Katsuki! Aren't you going to answer us? Why are you here all alone? Are you waiting for someone? Perhaps...Are you waiting for..." With a mocking tone, each and every one of the big man's goons made teasing gestures as they stuck their tongue out and said in unison.
"Angel eyes?"
And that was it. That was all the proof they needed. Both Izuku and Ochako looked at each other, now regretting their decision of coming there. On that moment, they knew they fucked up and they fucked up big time. Once again, Katsuki did not answer. He didn't move. He just let the guys laugh at him, do whatever he needed to do. He was adamant to stay on his seat.
"Not answering huh? What if I do this..." The big guy grabbed Katsuki by the jacket and threw him hard on the floor. Izuku flinched as soon as he heard the loud thud from Katsuki's body colliding with the floor. All the other bystanders gasped and screamed, some were running outside, probably to ask for help. Katsuki, however, just stood up quietly and went back to his seat. Not even blinking an eye, which seemed to piss the big man even more. "Seriously? What a fucking creep. You're actually still waiting for her here? Come on, Bakugou. Everyone knows your girl is dating someone else. She ain't coming here no more, you pathetic dumbass."
"What a fucking simp." One of the guy's friends spoke.
"Loser."
"Pathetic. And this is supposed to be the guy we're afraid of? What a joke."
Izuku was starting to feel really bad. He was contemplating whether or not he should help Katsuki but before he could even think; Ochako grabbed his face, her expression was serious and almost threatening. "Don't even think about it, Midoriya-kun." She whispered. "Stay out of it. We didn't know it was him and we won't be able to help even if we try. Those guys are twice your size, Midoriya-kun. I'm sure Bakugou-kun will be able to handle it and let's just forget about this day...and you can just block his number."
"B-But...But Uraraka--"
"No buts. We are leaving. Everyone else is already going out. We shouldn't stay here any longer." Ochako said as she stood up. She gestured to Tenya to stand up as well. Izuku's shoulders slumped, he knew Ochako was right. What could he do? He was as frail as they come. As much as he wanted to help, he's no fighter.
The three got up, about to leave the KTV, but Izuku's whole body froze as he heard countless of screams from the students around him. "Oh my God. They're hurting him! Someone call the guard!" A girl screamed. Izuku has never whipped his head back as fast as he did now, and there it was. The group of students were crowding Katsuki, punching him, kicking him, and tugging on his hair. One would think that Katsuki was fighting back or at least tried to...
But he didn't.
He just sat there, gripping on his chair, not wanting to let go. Katsuki didn't do anything. Izuku's heart hurt at the sight. Yes. He didn't like the guy, he was an asshole, and based from his friends' stories he's an evil incarnate, but remembering all the texts messages of him begging his ex to talk and seeing him hold onto his seat and table as if it was his lifeline. Izuku knew he was no better. He wanted to help, he had to help.
But he couldn't as both Ochako and Tenya just pulled him out, after that everything was all a blur, time moved slowly as he kept watching Katsuki get absolutely beaten up as he waited for the person that would never arrive. From a distance, he could hear screams, whistles from the security guards along with Ochako and Tenya's voices speaking to him, but he couldn't hear them. He was in total shock.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry..." Izuku whispered, still staring at the scene, he didn't even stop staring even when he couldn't see it anymore because it replayed in his head over and over and over.
Later that night, Izuku was still in shock as he laid in bed, guilt plaguing his mind. He didn't even remember how he got home, and he had to remind himself to thank Ochako tomorrow because she was most likely the one who dragged him home. It wasn't even until he felt his phone buzz again that he fully came back to his senses. He didn't know why he was so affected but he was. Even without looking at his phone, Izuku knew inside his heart that the notification was the mystery texter, or well, Bakugou Katsuki.
But Izuku was afraid to check the message. Still, he felt an obligation to at least look at it because of what he saw earlier. So, Izuku closed his eyes tightly as he took deep breaths, preparing himself as he turned his phone making the screen face him.
His finger touched the power button, pressing it gently. His phone makes a click noise as it unlocked due to facial recognition. Using pure instinct, he swipes his finger and opened his IMessage app, still with his eyes closed. "Here we go." He breathes out and slowly he opens his eyes, immediately reading the new messages that he received, preparing himself for the worst.
Unknown Number.
7:43p.m
Unknown: I waited for you.
Unknown: Why didn't you come?
Unknown: Do you hate me that much?
Unknown: I'm sorry
Unknown: I'm sorry for bothering you.
Unknown: I still want to meet with you.
Unknown: I'll continue waiting for you until you want to meet with me again.
Unknown: I love you, my Izuku.
Izuku didn't know what he expected but it certainly wasn't that. Well, actually, he did know what to expect. He expected a lot of cussing especially since he got beaten up, he expected a lot of hurtful words, maybe even threats and demands of apology. His heart started to hurt when the boy did none of those, nor did he even mention getting hurt.
"He even apologized. He apologized to me and he shouldn't be...I'm not even the one he wants to send these to." Izuku whispers with a pained voice. He badly wanted to tell Katsuki the truth, to tell him he was sorry, and that he wasn't the Izuku that he wanted. He wanted to say it. He already typed out the words.
But he couldn't press send.
He couldn't.
Izuku was too afraid of the consequences that would come after he does. Ochako's words instilled fear in him. He didn't want to risk ruining his school life. He knew it was selfish but when he got pulled out from elementary by his parents and when they decided to homeschool him, he asked them every single day to get him back to normal school. As much as he was grateful that Ochako stayed his friend, visiting him everyday, he felt so envious of her stories from school. It took many years until they finally agreed, and he even got accepted to his dream school.
He cannot afford to lose that. He just can't. Without any better judgement, Izuku turned off his phone as he placed it gently on his chest, gripping on it tightly. "I'm the worst." He said to himself. "I hope...he's doing well. I hope he just moves on and stops waiting. He's such a dummy for even waiting for a girl who dumped him for another guy. How can he even trust his ex's brother? Ugh. I should speak for myself...Why did I even give my number to a stranger?"
Izuku felt himself slowly dozing off, his grip of his phone was loosening. "He'll be okay. I'm sure he'll be okay eventually. He'll stop messaging me, and I'll never have to see him again. I should just forget about this and live my life normally. Everything will be okay...right?" He uttered sleepily.
After a few more seconds, Izuku lets sleep take over him, his mind thinking about that stubborn, blonde gang leader called Bakugou Katsuki.
Izuku had the worst sleep of his life. He felt even more tired when he was asleep than when he was awake. It was terrible. Izuku kept dreaming about Katsuki getting beaten up over and over again. The incident kept replaying inside his mind. It was so bad that he could physically feel that his eyebags darken. As much he wanted to keep convincing himself that he should just forget about everything and it was all just some messed up coincidence that caused that.
He didn't know about Katsuki and his ex. They just thought it was a prank.
Right?
It didn't feel right. Not for Izuku.
"Midoriya? You okay?" Izuku's head shot up when he heard someone call his name. It was Hagakure Tooru, one of his classmates, who Izuku noted was absolutely adorable. At the moment, Izuku was inside his classroom, absentmindedly scribbling on his notebook as Shouta, their adviser, started with their homeroom by doing a roll call.
Izuku forces out a smile. "I'm fine, Hagakure-san. Thank you for asking."
"Are you sure?" Tooru tilts her head curiously. "You've been randomly drawing lines on your notebook for about five minutes now and well...you kind of look like you haven't slept in days which is weird since I just met you yesterday." Izuku awkwardly laughs as he gently scratched his cheek.
"Just had a few nightmares here and there, I watched a very scary film yesterday. You know how it is...hehe."
"Oh! I get how you feel! I could never watch like really scary movies! They terrify the heck out of me!" She exclaimed with a small giggle. Izuku couldn't help but give her a real smile now because of how kind and cute she was, her unruly hair bounced as she laughed. "Well, as long as you're okay! Wouldn't want you to be stressed too stressed out on your second day!"
Izuku's heart swelled at that. "Thank you, Hagakure-san. That's so kind of you!"
"Hehe. No problem, Midoriya! We'll be classmates and friends from now on, so I want us to get along and look out for each other!" Izuku nods at that.
"Of course! Seriously, thank you so much--" Izuku was cut off when their classroom's door suddenly swung open, rather abruptly. This has been a common occurrence with Izuku ever since he arrived at U.A high, him getting cut off mid sentence. It didn't bother him at all but he just couldn't help but ponder about it. It was a bit funny if you asked him.
"Well, look who actually decided to attend class. My favorite problem children." Izuku could hear Shouta, their teacher, say as he looked at the person, or people, who made quite a loud entrance. Izuku was curious as to who they were, he even glanced at Ochako to see if she was aware about their identity considering she's been with the same class since her first year, but she looked as confused as he was as she stared at the direction of the door.
Now, this made Izuku even more curious. Forgetting about the incident for now, he looks at the door waiting for the students to come in, and honestly, he should've just stayed curious. One by one, students wearing a very familiar jacket each walked in. The first one was a boy with bright red, spikey hair. Behind him was a girl who had fluffy, pink hair and had a huge grin on her face as she waved at Shouta, who only rolled his eyes, and towards the whole class. "Good morning!" She exclaims.
Next up was a boy who Izuku thought looked really cool. He had a yellowish, almost orange colored hair, with a single black spot on his bangs that almost looked like a lightning bolt. Izuku wondered if that was real or not.
"Kirishima Eijiro, Ashido Mina, Kaminari Denki...and, wow. Now this is a real surprise." Shouta, with an amused tone, continued to stare outside the door. 'There's one more person?' Izuku thought, glancing towards Ochako again to see her reaction now, to see if she was familiar with them and his heart drops.
All the color in Ochako's face disappeared, her eyes were wide as she stared at the three students in front. What made it even more concerning was Tenya, who was beside her, also had the exact same expression, while others only had the look of surprise.
"After a whole year of absence, you finally show yourself." Shouta spoke again.
"Yeah, yeah. Don't get your knickers in a twist, Sensei. This is just fucking temporary."
"Hold on....that voice. No. It can't be." Izuku accidentally mumbled out, his head slowly turning towards the door. The voice who spoke strode inside the room, low and behold, there he was yet again. The person he kept seeing and can't seem to shake off. The student everyone feared, and the stranger that Izuku, whether he denied it to himself or not, he wronged. "Bakugou Katsuki." He whispered with a horrified look on his face.
Katsuki, with a scowl on his face, walked ahead of, who Izuku assumed were, his friends that were apparently as scary as he was and headed towards the back of the class. 'How could this happen? He's part of our class? That doesn't make any sense? How does that make sense?' Izuku was panicking. He was full on panicking. It didn't help that Katsuki not only seemed mad, but he was covered in bruises and bandages.
Shouta snickered as soon as the newly arrived group were all at the back. Izuku could hear the sound of chairs moving, so he assumed that the group had claimed their spot. Now, it made sense why there were empty chairs and desks in their class. He had noticed that yesterday but never bothered to ask about it."Whoever messed you up, messed you up pretty good, Bakugou. That's a rare sight. Was he strong?"
"No." Katsuki grumbled out. "Just fucking lucky."
"Hah. Very interesting. Well, I don't really care what you do because, unfortunately, I don't get paid enough to care so as long as you don't disrupt my class, I won't say anything else. Now, back to my roll call. Kyoka Jirou?"
"Present, Sensei!"
Izuku wanted to look behind him, he also wanted to glance at Ochako for answers but he was too afraid to move, and based on what he saw earlier, it seems she didn't know as well. If what he heard was correct then Katsuki has always been a Class 1-A student but had remained absent the whole first year. If that's the case, Izuku wondered why he decided to suddenly appear now. Did he get in trouble and was forced to come to class? Did he decide to move on from whatever problems he was having and start being a good student? Did his friends urge him to come to class to get his mind off of his ex?
Or...
'Crap. Crap. Crap.' Izuku thought, his eyes widening in fear. 'Does he know it was me who he talked to? He can't possibly know right? There was no way for him to know. God. Please tell me he doesn't know.'
"Koji Koda?"
Izuku's hands were violently shaking, it's as if the world was spinning again. 'He doesn't know. He didn't even look at me earlier. He just went straight to his seat. If he knew, he'd probably glare at me until I just vanished.' He assured himself, it was true. Katsuki didn't even spare him, nor anyone, a glance. It's as if no one but him and his group existed.
"Koji Koda? Are you here?"
"Y-Yes...Present."
"Alright."
'Yeah. He doesn't know anything. I would've been dead by now if I was, based on Uraraka-san and Iida-kun's evaluation of him. He doesn't typically spare anyone and uses violence as soon as he can.' Izuku finally built up the courage to glance at Ochako, who was already looking at him, along with both Tsuyu and Tenya. It seems that Tsuyu was already filled in with the situation as he can see them whispering to each other. Ochako had a relieved look on her face which made Izuku feel even better but Tenya, on the other-hand, looked like he realized something terrible.
Izuku could see Tenya whispering something to Ochako and slowly, her relieved expression morphed into a terrified look as she glanced at Shouta then at Izuku. Now, that confused the green-haired boy. 'What are they talking about?' His question was soon answered as soon as he asked it when he heard the next name their teacher called, making Izuku's breath hitch.
"Midoriya Izuku?"
His whole world stops.
Izuku had completely forgotten that they were still doing roll calls.
'Oh God. I'm dead. I'm so dead. Good bye, normal, high school life. Hello torment.' He stared at his shaky hands, not able to raise it to say he was present. Izuku felt afraid, it's as if he could physically feel death looming all around him.
"Midoriya Izuku? Are you here?"
"Hey, Midoriya. Aizawa-sensei is calling you." Tooru whispered from beside him but he paid her no mind.
"Midoriya Izuku? I'm going to mark you absent unless you say you're present."
Izuku wanted the world to swallow him whole. He wanted to jump off a roof. He wanted God to take him right then and there. He didn't want to raise his hands but at the same time he didn't want to be absent. It was a tough choice to make. Shouta was a strict teacher who can expel anyone he deems unfit in his class, but Katsuki was a gang leader who can apparently make your life a living hell. It's a double-edged sword.
But as he remembered how it felt to stay inside the house while every child played outside, when he remembered how envious he felt of his own friend for going to school, meeting new people, and how much he had to convince his parents and older brother to let him go to this school, how hard he studied and worked to earn his place here.
Izuku's hand raised on it's own.
"Present."
He could hear Ochako gasp from the other side of the room. Izuku closed his eyes tightly, preparing for whatever was to come at him. He expected Katsuki and his friends to grab him, yell at him, call him names, hurt him, or all of the above.
"Alright. Next student."
Nothing happened.
"Nothing happened?" Izuku whispered to himself as he slowly opened his eyes. The class was silent. Well, as silent as they could be while Shouta was doing their morning roll call. Katsuki, nor his friends, made any noise from behind them. 'Could it be...that he still hasn't realized I was the one who texted him? Am I...Am I safe?' He thought, slowly feeling relieved, finally being able to relax. 'He actually didn't realize it was me. He...probably didn't even care that I had a similar name with his ex. Oh thank God. Thank you God.'
He worried over nothing. He felt so happy that he was just overthinking it. Although, he did still feel guilty that he was practically the reason why Katsuki got hurt, but now he gets to live a normal life. After all, he didn't know that Katsuki's texts were serious. They were both victims of Midorima Shintarou's awful idea of protecting his sister but it's not like he could blame his upperclassman. He was just looking out for someone precious to him, even if Izuku doesn't agree with his methods.
'Oh well. As long as everything's okay."
But as always, life did not favor Izuku. Nope. Not at all.
Bzz...
Bzz....
The familiar loud buzzing from Izuku's phone rang through his ears, which made everyone look at him, even Shouta who sighed. "Again, Midoriya? Who on earth has been texting you non-stop since yesterday. Fix that now or I'm throwing that phone away." The light in Izuku's eyes faded when his teacher said that especially since not even a few seconds after Shouta spoke, his phone buzzed one last time.
And Izuku had a feeling he should check the message. So, he did.
With a lump on his throat and a heavy heard, Izuku took his phone from his pocket and unlocked it, he spared not even a millisecond and went straight to his conversation with Katsuki.
