The reason I'm alive.

Summary:

“I’m kind of having a moment here, dumbass. Do you mind?”

The green-haired boy tilted his head to the side, confused. “You’re asking me if I mind that my classmate is standing on the edge of a cliff at night, obviously about to commit suicide? Because if you are then yes, I kind of do mind.”

“Oh my fucking God. Have you always been this annoying?”

Katsuki Bakugou is a hot-tempered, foul-mouthed mess who is considered a devil in their community, was ready to end it all by jumping off a cliff, unexpectedly, he meets Izuku Midoriya, the angelic idol from his class, who apparently has no filter whatsoever.

Chapter Text

Katsuki Bakugou didn't believe in God. He thought that if there was actually a God somewhere out there, then his life wouldn't have been filled with suffering and loneliness. Was God playing favorites? Probably not, right? Why on earth would a God play favorites? So, there was only one conclusion that Katsuki could think of as to why his life was so shitty. The only logical one is that there is no almighty entity that lives beyond the stars.

He has been enduring the life he was given for fifteen years, and he's grown tired of it. Katsuki has lived a life with constant abuse and judgment from his own family and peers, he had no friends that he could rely on, and he had never experienced falling in love. So, he thought, what was the point of continuing his life? People saw him as the devil's spawn, an eye-sore, and evil.

Which was ironic because the people around their community saw his father as a saint. A person who could do no wrong whatsoever.

He was far from that.

Right now, there he was, standing on the edge of a cliff at night, the cold breeze hitting his skin as he stared at the view in front of him, in awe. 'This is the only good fucking thing I've seen in my entire life.' He thinks to himself, his expression dead.

His chest felt heavy, like he wanted to scream. He wanted to claw his own eyes out, and pull his hair until the stabbing pain that he felt in his heart is gone, but he didn't want to submit himself into any more torture. One would think that with years worth of emotional torture would make someone numb.

Everyday he wished he was numb. Everyday he acts like he didn't care, he acts as if nothing bothered him anymore, in hopes that someday it might finally come true but nothing ever worked. It's as if his stubborn heart still hoped that someone, anyone would show him just a tiny bit of sympathy and kindness.

But that person couldn't possibly exist.

In everyone's eyes, Katsuki was nothing but filth. He'd bet all his life savings that his father, classmates, and basically everyone in their town would celebrate once he was gone. He couldn't help but scoff at the thought. 'Maybe, I can just haunt the living shit outta everyone. That'll show them.'

After a few more minutes of contemplating, pondering, and staring at the beautiful scenery. Katsuki felt that he was ready. He was ready to let go. He honestly assumed that he'd have some doubts of jumping but as he looked at his own arms, littered with scars, bruises, and burns.

As much as his heart still hadn't given up, his mind had already grown tired.

Even if he wished to be saved, it was too late for him. Katsuki was damaged, both mentally and physically. There was no way he'd ever fall in love with life again, the only person who had truly loved him already died. With that thought alone, Katsuki was more than ready to jump.

And so, with steady breaths and eyes closed tight, he was slowly walking closer to the edge, shivering slightly as the wind blew past him quicker.

This was it.

His escape from hell, his freedom, and his final goodbye to life. Katsuki prepared himself to jump, until...

"Excuse me?" A soft, familiar voice spoke from behind him, making him jump in surprise. His eyes shoot wide open as he turns his whole body around and as soon as he did; Katsuki starts thinking that God may exist after all.

In front of him now, was the most angelic looking being that he has ever laid his eyes on. Katsuki swore that he could practically see a halo on the boy's head. Though, Katsuki couldn't help but feel that he had seen him somewhere before.

"Hello? Are you okay, Bakugou Katsuki-kun?"

Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows as he wondered why this God-given angel knew his name, but as he stared more into the boy's emerald green orbs, his eyes widened in realization. "Midoriya Izuku?" The boy, named Midoriya Izuku, nodded. Katsuki mentally face-palmed himself, feeling like an idiot for ever thinking that the boy was an angel sent from heaven to stop him from jumping. It was only his classmate from school.

If Katsuki could recall correctly, the boy was a widely known idol, along with other boys their age, not that he cared anyways. It was just big news in their small town that the boy who moved to their neighborhood was an idol who wanted to step away a bit from the limelight, just by that alone, the whole entirety of their town was smitten with him, happy to have such a person live so close to them.

Midoriya Izuku was the epitome of perfection. He had good grades, he was good at sports, he was kind, and he was also drop dead gorgeous.

But again, not like Katsuki ever cared. It was just hard to ignore a presence like his, considering they were polar opposites. "You're a long way from home, ya know that, right?" Katsuki decides to speak, he had just been caught attempting suicide, God knows what the green-haired boy might say or do.

Izuku's green eyes bore holes on Katsuki's head as he stared up at the blonde. "I could say the same to you, Bakugou Katsuki-kun. What are you doing here so late at night?" Honestly, it confuses Katsuki a lot that the boy knows him and is speaking politely. No one, not even the nicest people in school, would ever be kind or respectful towards him. Not that he'd mind, he somewhat loved it whenever someone was disrespectful towards him, it gave him the chance to lash out on people, letting out his frustrations.

He carefully decided on his words to say to the green-haired boy, he didn't want to risk the boy blabbering or panicking about him attempting to jump off a cliff. There was no proper explanation or excuse that popped up inside his head, unfortunately, so Katsuki said the first thing that came to his mind. "I'm kind of having a moment here, dumbass. Do you mind?" As he did a small 'shoo' gesture to make the boy go away.

The blond boy wanted to smack himself on the face for his choice of words and actions but it didn't matter now. He said what he said, and he just hoped that Izuku would get the picture and just leave him be because he really doesn't have any time to waste.

Izuku was silent for a moment until he tilted his head to the side, confused. “You’re asking me if I mind that my classmate is standing on the edge of a cliff at night, obviously about to commit suicide? Because if you are then yes, I kind of do mind.”

Now, Katsuki did not expect that. Not at all, but he had to play it cool. "Your eyes are playing tricks on you. Who the fuck commits suicide by jumping off a fucking cliff." Once again, Katsuki wanted to slap himself with his poor choice of words, but who can blame him? This is the first time anyone's ever conversed with him that wasn't trying to humiliate, nor degrade him.

"You, apparently." Izuku answered as he crossed his arms against his chest. "You don't have to lie or anything, it was a little too obvious when you literally had your eyes closed, like you were saying your last goodbyes. You looked like you came straight out of an angsty teen movie."

Katsuki could feel his face heating up as he suddenly felt horrified. "You...oh my fucking God. Have you always been this annoying?" Was all he managed to say out of sheer embarrassment. 'This guy is far from what he is at school. He's no goddamn angel.'

"You just caught me on a bad night." Izuku answered cheekily as he shrugged. "But seriously, please get away from the edge, I'm afraid the wind might make you outbalance and fall."

Hesitantly, Katsuki complies as he slowly moves farther from the edge, and closer to the boy in front of him. The nearer he got to Izuku, the more Katsuki realized how breathtaking the boy actually was with his soft skin and freckles, his curly hair, and eyes that could probably stop the hearts of many people.

'So this is what an idol looks like up close.' The blonde thinks to himself. He never really paid close attention to people from school, especially Midoriya Izuku. The green-haired idol was one of the rare ones that didn't mind his presence, nor did he ever try speaking to him, which made Katsuki also ignore him.

"Great!" Izuku clasped his hand together as soon as Katsuki was far enough from the edge of a cliff. "Now, I can add professional suicide attempt stopper on my Idol resume. How great is that?"

Katsuki shot him a weird look. "You do know that I never confirmed that I was about to commit suicide, right?"

"You never denied it either. You just said that my eyes are playing tricks on me."

"That's denying it, fucking idiot!" Katsuki exclaimed as he pinched his temple due to frustration. "And you never answered my question, what are you doing here? Your presence here is just as fucking sketchy. Idol life ain't treating good?"

Izuku raised an eyebrow at him. "First of all, you never asked me what I was doing here. You were making a comment about how I was far away from home, that's different. So, to answer your question now... I'm here because this happens to be my favorite spot because, I'm sure you've noticed, the view here is fantastic, and I go here to think a lot." Katsuki's eyes twitched in annoyance with how snarky the green-haired boy was.

"Oh yeah, pretty boy? You've got proof that you go here a lot?"

"As a matter of fact..." Izuku paused as he moved to God knows where. Katsuki followed the boy's every move, and his eyes widened when Izuku stopped at a nearby tree, and pointed at the trunk. There, the boy's full name.

Midoriya Izuku.

"You see this? That's my name, isn't it? I come here often. So, not only did you trespass in my favorite spot, but you almost made it a haunted place by dying here!"

"Y-You...You!" Katsuki, once again, was at a loss for words. "You know most people say encouraging shit when they see someone about to commit suicide! You act like a fucking kind-hearted angel in class, but here you are complaining that someone's about to ruin your fucking special spot by dying!"

"Well, what did you expect me to say? You have so much to live for? Everything's going to be okay? How is that going to help you? If I acted like I pitied you, you would've just felt worse because who am I to devalue what you're going through?" Izuku shot back as he placed a hand on his hip. "Acting like a complete brat made you get off that edge, didn't it?"

After the green-haired boy said that, Katsuki froze. He was right. Katsuki was dreading the fact that someone saw him, in fear that the person would give him fake sympathy or pity him. Not that he'd ever expect that from anyone, but Izuku seemed like the type to pity people, but apparently not.

Katsuki was mildly impressed though he did not show it. "You...You've been here since middle school, right? I'm sure you've heard the rumors about me."

"Oh God. Stop. Please stop. This sounds like some cheesy line that only the movie Twilight could produce."

"I swear to God. I never thought you'd be this fucking annoying." When the blonde said that, it made Izuku giggle a bit, and when he did, Katsuki could almost forgive the fact that the green-haired boy was being a brat.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Izuku said through his giggles as he waved his hands. "Of course, I've heard the rumors. I haven't even taken a few steps inside this town and the first thing they say is be careful of that devil spawn Bakugou Katsuki. Same thing when I first got to school."

"So, why the hell are you talking to me now then? You've ignored me most of the years we've been classmates, why are you acting all chummy and concerned now. Huh? Did anyone put you up to this? Is this some sort of reality T.V prank show? Huh? Because if it is, I swear to fucking God, I'm not afraid to hurt even famous people."

Izuku scoffs. "First of all, that's silly. Second, I'm talking to you because I don't really know why everyone acts like you're some creature who crawled up from hell to terrorize this town. I never really asked anyone. The reason I've ignored you is because you always seemed like you didn't want anyone to approach you. I actually thought you didn't care that much that people were being so mean to you, because you always seemed to have got yourself...so this. " He gestures to Katsuki and the cliff. "Was quite a shocker, but eh. People have their limits."

None of this made sense to Katsuki, his interaction with Izuku seemed like some sort of fever dream. "I don't fucking understand you at all. Seriously, are you fucked in the head or something?"

" No. Quite the contrary, don't you think it makes sense that a sane person shouldn't believe rumors unless they're proven true? Rumors are rumors for a reason."

"Then...Why don't you just ask people why they think I'm a devil?"

"Because it's not their story to tell. So, unless you're going to tell me yourself, I'm not hearing people out, nor am I asking."

Katsuki was taken aback. Though, Izuku was far from how he is at school, considering he's shy and soft-spoken in class, but now he talks with no filter whatsoever. He does, however, live up to being kind, but the blonde was still doubtful though. Katsuki was going to speak again until Izuku suddenly beat him to it.

"You know..." The green-haired boy starts with a more serious tone. "On a more serious note, are you okay, Bakugou Katsuki-kun? I mean, I know you're not okay considering you almost...you know, but right now. Are you okay? As much as I want to joke around with you, to not make you wary of me, I can't really hold off my concern for long. You're right, I did ignore your presence since my first day, but only because I thought you preferred being alone and I didn't want to impose..."

"What does that suppose to fucking mean?" Katsuki asked, confused on what the boy was getting at now, though his heart felt a bit heavy as Izuku's tone changed into a more concerned one.

Izuku shrugs his shoulders slightly. "It means, if I'd known the things people say were actually affecting you in the first place, I would've approached you sooner. Duh."

Katsuki stared at the green-haired boy then burst out laughing. "W-Wow. Out of every bullshit thing you said tonight...that...that takes the fucking cake. You're a very funny, pretty boy, I'll give you that." Katsuki's reaction made Izuku huff as he went closer to the blonde who was shaking due to his laughter.

"I am being serious!" Izuku exclaimed, his face red a bit, obviously embarrassed by how much the blonde was laughing. "I-I...stop laughing!" Katsuki couldn't though. This is the first time he has laughed in years, and it was a good feeling. It almost made him forget what he was supposed to do there. It almost made him forget all of his pre-existing problems. "I liked it better when you were being an asshole."

A few more seconds later and Katsuki's laughter starts to die down as he looks at Izuku, who was huffing and sulking as he mumbled to himself. Once he has calmed down, he runs a hand through his hair. "Do your fans know that their precious little angel huffs and puffs like a little baby wolf?"

Izuku looks at him with a glare but not long after his facial expression softens. "Well, it's good to see that you're feeling much better now." And there it was again, the green-haired boy had a genuine smile on his face as he looked up at Katsuki. Now, instead of being defensive and doubtful, the blonde had to ask.

"Why do you care so much about me? Do you feel guilty that you didn't approach me sooner? It's really just fucking weird how two strangers--"

"We've been classmates since middle school. I could hardly call us strangers."

"Okay...Two classmates who had nothing to do with each other, just happen to meet somewhere inside a forest, at night. And maybe, just maybe yeah. One of them is suicidal because he's sick and tired of feeling alone, and being treated like he just committed a fucking massacre, and one feels like they could've been friends or whatever. That doesn't really give light to the fact that you're acting like you really care about me."

Izuku was silent for a moment, probably thinking of how to answer Katsuki. As much as Katsuki's heart felt happy that there was one person who seems to show some sort of concern for him, his mind is telling him that the boy was only concerned because he's suicidal. So, it's more on pity than caring, because his mind knows it's impossible to suddenly care for someone in just a few minutes.

"I know you might think it's crazy and weird, and even how much I explain it that even before I already felt bad for you and I just really, genuinely didn't want to approach you because you looked like you didn't want anyone to..." Izuku fiddled with his own fingers as his eyes were focused on the ground. "When I saw you earlier and you were about to jump, it was the first time I've ever seen you look so peaceful. It's as if...that was the first good thing you've done for yourself. But...I-I..."

The green-haired boy stops for a moment and takes deep breaths as he slowly looks up to Katsuki. "I wasn't supposed to stop you." He admits, surprising Katsuki. "I mean, who was I to stop someone who was at peace with death? It's not like your life will get any easier if I'd convince you to stay alive when you obviously wanted to die but...but for a moment, Bakugou Katsuki-kun, it seemed like you wanted someone to help you. I might've been wrong but the fact that you got off that edge...is proof that you weren't really sure if you wanted to die..."

Carefully, Izuku moves closer and closer to Katsuki. The blonde didn't make any attempts to move because he wanted to see what Izuku would do. Izuku grabs both of Katsuki's hands, unexpectedly, as his emerald green eyes shone. "If it's not too late yet. I would like to be your friend. I know that somewhere inside your mind, you might still want to die, but give me this chance to try and change your mind. I promise...I'll make you fall in love with life again!" He exclaimed, his eyes filled with determination.

Katsuki's eyes slowly widened, with everything that they've talked about, he never once realized that Izuku was stalling. He was stalling because he was gathering enough courage to say this to him. Katsuki knew, because as Izuku held onto his hands, his own hands were shaking like crazy.

'This guy...He's not joking.' Katsuki thought to himself as he sighed. "Whatever. I don't care." He whispered as he turned his head away. "Do what you want. It's not like I can just attempt to fucking jump again. I don't want to be responsible for traumatizing this town's only hope of getting any fucking recognition."

Izuku gasps as a smile makes its way on his face. "R-Really?! You're...You're serious, right? You won't just try and kill yourself once you get home? You promise?"

"You know, you're fucking weird. Right? Most people would act way worse than you're acting when they find someone about to go take a fucking swan dive off a cliff."

"I read a lot of angst. I think most of the things I told you, were things I've read in those drama novels I read."

Katsuki's eyebrow twitched as he pulled his hands away from Izuku. "You--"

"I'm kidding! Well, kind of. I was being one hundred percent genuine! But I did...kind of take some lines from the novels. Hehe." Izuku gives Katsuki a sheepish smile. "But this is great! This is like some sort of coming of age story, don't you think? The idol and the super edgy bad boy, they get together to navigate the troubles of youth."

"Jesus fucking Christ. Don't make me regret agreeing, for God's sake. Who knew you could be such a fucking nerd."

"No one but you knows, so I guess we're both keeping some secrets from each other. See? We're such good friends already!" Izuku exclaimed as he held a thumbs up, making Katsuki roll his eyes. "Now, what do you say we both go home now? It's getting really dark and it's a school day tomorrow. Idols need their beauty rest, you know?"

"Yeah, okay. Whatever." Was all Katsuki could respond. His head was starting to hurt really bad. Izuku's behavior and everything that happened gave him fucking whiplash. Too many things happened and have been said in a span of just one night, and now Katsuki wanted nothing more but to just sleep. Luckily though, the moment Katsuki agreed to go home, Izuku didn't speak anymore. Even as they walked out of the forest, the two of them walked in complete silence.

It wasn't until they were out of the forest did Izuku say anything. "My house is in the opposite direction, so I'll be heading off. See you tomorrow, Bakugou Katsuki-kun. And I mean it, you better show up tomorrow."

Again, Katsuki could only nod due to exhaustion but he can briefly remember the green-haired boy giving him the biggest smile Katsuki has ever seen and then he was gone. His walk home was also a blur, he just decided to leave tomorrow's problems to his tomorrow self.

"

Katsuki, my little darling." Mitsuki, his mother, spoke with an unusually soft voice. Katsuki looks up to his mom with adoring eyes as he runs over to hug her.

"Yes, mommy?" His small voice asked as he wrapped his tiny arms around her leg, which earned him a head pat from his mother. Before Mitsuki could answer him, both of them jump as they hear glass shattering from downstairs. Fear spread across Mitsuki's face as she glanced at the door to check if it was locked then looked back down to Katsuki. "Mommy?" The boy repeated, confused by his mother's silence.

"Katsuki, do you remember that game mommy taught you last time?"

"Hmm." The little blonde boy thinks as he scratched his head, just they could hear sounds of glass breaking again. Katsuki couldn't help but whimper in fear as he looked at his mom. "W-What was that, mommy?"

Mitsuki's eyes turned sad as she scooped her son into her arms, carrying him. "Don't mind that, baby. Now, answer mommy's question. Do you remember the game I taught you?" Katsuki shakes his head. "It's the game where you hide, and I try to find you. Do you remember now?"

"O-Oh! Oh! Yes, I remember mommy! Can we play that now?"

"Yes, of course. But this time, daddy is the seeker. Remember what I taught you, right? No matter how much daddy calls for you, no matter what you hear, don't come out or you will lose. Got it?" Katsuki nods enthusiastically. "Good job, baby. If you win, I'll give you a treat later. Okay?"

"Okay, mommy!" Mitsuki smiles as she gives Katsuki a kiss on the forehead, she lowers her son down on the ground to let him hide. As soon as Katsuki's feet landed on the floor, he ran to find a hiding spot. "I'll go hide now!" The little boy exclaimed as he ran around looking for the perfect hiding spot. His ruby red eyes scanned his entire room, wondering where the best place was to hide.

But when he heard loud banging from his door, he got slightly distracted as he looked at his mom with fear. Mitsuki only smiled at Katsuki. "Go hide now, sweetheart. If daddy catches you, you'll lose. Go on now." As much as Katsuki was scared, he trusted his mom. So, he ignored the loud banging from his door and decided to hide inside his toy box, which was big enough for him to fit. Katsuki couldn't help but giggle as he thought to himself.

'Mommy and daddy won't find me here.'

"MITSUKI! OPEN THE GODDAMN DOOR!"  Katsuki flinched a bit as he heard his dad's voice from outside but he didn't make any noise. "I SWEAR TO GOD, MITSUKI, YOU STUPID WHORE. IF YOU DON'T OPEN THIS DOOR, I'M GOING TO FUCKING SCALP YOU ALONG WITH THAT BRAT!"

"I-I'm coming." Katsuki heard his mother's shaky voice. After that, the shouting stopped. Katsuki could only hear shuffling noises and footsteps, but a few minutes passed and Katsuki heard a loud 'thud' from outside, as if something or someone just fell on the ground.

"Where is he? Katsuki! Where the hell are you?! Come out here this INSTANT!"

"H-He's not here...he's at a friend's house. They....have a playdate."

"A play date? as if anyone would fucking play with that useless brat."

"M-Masaru...I'm...I'm telling you the truth. He's not here. Please, you're drunk. Just let him be--" Skin slapping could be heard from outside as Mitsuki lets out a yelp in pain. "Masaru...please."

"You fucking whore. You dare talk back to me? You...You're not the one paying the bills right?"

"I'm not..."

"So don't fucking talk back to me, bitch! and tell me where THE FUCK Katsuki is?"

"I'm telling you he's not here--" And then another sound of a slap.

"I SAID SHUT UP. DO YOU THINK I'M A FUCKING IDIOT? I SAW HIS SHOES DOWNSTAIRS. HE IS HERE SOMEWHERE...KATSUKI?! KATSUKI, COME OUT HERE RIGHT THIS INSTANT! KATSUKI, YOU FUCKING BRAT!"

Tears were starting to fall from Katsuki's eyes as he covered both of his ears. "Mommy told me not to get out, mommy told me not to make a noise." He whispered under his breath.

"Masaru, please. Why do you have to bring our son into this? If you want to hurt someone, hurt me instead, please."

More and more sounds of slapping, hitting, and screaming could be hurt the moment Mitsuki said that. Mitsuki's cries could be heard from every corner of Katsuki's rooms. "You wanted this, didn't you?! Just so you can protect that DAMN  BRAT! So, why are you crying now? Huh?!"

"Masaru, please stop. Please!" Mitsuki cried out. "Please...Please, Masaru."

"CALL OUT TO HIM! CALL OUT TO HIM AND I'LL FUCKING STOP. IF YOU STILL TRY TO KEEP HIM HIDDEN, I'LL KEEP TORTURING YOU UNTIL YOU TELL ME WHERE HE IS!"

Katsuki's body was shaking, he couldn't understand what was happening, but all he knew was his mother was hurt. Just based on all her cries and all her screams, she was in pain. Katsuki wanted to get out of the box, he wanted to help his mommy, but whenever he tried to, his mom's voice would echo inside his head.

"Don't ever come out, even for mommy, okay?"

"W-What are you doing with that knife, Masaru...What...No, no. Please, no anything but that. Please!"

"Call out to him now, Mitsuki."

"Please, anything but that. Please, please, please. Don't hurt our baby, please."

"I'm giving you three seconds, Mitsuki. You either call out to him and make him come out, or I'm gonna enjoy and take my time carving a new masterpiece on that body of yours."

"Please--"

"CALL OUT TO HIM!"

After that final scream from his dad, everything was quiet for a moment, and just for a moment. "K-Katsuki..." Mitsuku's shaky voice called out. "Kat..suki....Don't come out, baby. No matter what you hear. Mommy is sorry. Just don't come out-- AH! STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT. NO, NO. PLEASE NO! STOP IT NO. PLEASE."

"Mommy." Katsuki tightened his hold on himself.

"KATSUKI, DON'T COME OUT. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS DON'T COME OUT! DON'T."

"Katsuki, your mommy is getting hurt right now because of you. I'm hurting mommy now because she's trying to protect you. Are you really such a bad boy to let your own mommy get tortured so that you won't?"

"M-Mommy..."

"Come out now, Katsuki. Come save your mommy."

"KATSUKI, NO!"

"Mom!" Katsuki yelled as he shot up from his bed, sweat was trickling down his face as he looked around, hyperventilating. His eyes wildly scanned his room  for any signs of his mother but as soon as he realized that everything was only a dream, he calmed himself. 'It's been awhile since I've had that fucking nightmare...is it because of what happened last night?'

It was highly possible. It seemed to him that his own mind was reminding him why he was so tired of living, and why he still should've gone through with it. Katsuki let out a sigh as he frustratedly ran a hand through his hair. "I wonder if he's actually going to do anything today." He mumbled under his breath, referring to Midoriya Izuku. "I fucking doubt it. I bet the little shit just really didn't want to handle the guilt of seeing a classmate commit suicide..."

Images of Izuku's genuine smile appeared inside Katsuki's mind and the boy's voice rang in his ears. "See you tomorrow, Bakugou Katsuki-kun. And I mean it, you better show up tomorrow!"   Katsuki had no clue why he was remembering this, it's not like he actually believed the green-haired boy.

"I'll make you fall in love with life again!"

"Idiot, I was never in love with life in the first place..." He mumbled under his breath as he got up to take a bath and get ready for school. 'Well, it wouldn't hurt to go to school today. It's better there than here. I'm pretty sure he's in his room, wasted as per fucking usual.'

With that final thought, Katsuki begrudgingly starts his day, wondering what fate has in store for him today.

Katsuki had never liked going to school, but he didn’t like being at home even more. The hundreds of pairs of eyes staring down at him with looks of disgust and disdain. He learned the art of not giving a fuck though. Most of the time, he had a scowl on his face, ready to pick fights with anyone who wanted to.

And there was always someone who wanted to.

"Ah. If it isn't U.A High school's honorary fuck up, Bakugou Katsuki." Right on time. Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows as he looked up to see, none other than, Shigaraki fucking Tomura and his goons. "Isn't it pathetic how you still try to show your face here day by day, even when you're not wanted?"

Katsuki snickered as he shoved his hands inside the pockets of his jacket. "Isn't it sad that you're always here to greet this honorary fuck up, Senpai?" He said, his tone is filled with spite. Tomura narrowed his eyes at the blonde. Todoroki Touya, who was just behind the white-haired asshole.

"Oi, oi, oi. You're getting a little too brave lately, aren't ya? You better know your place. Remember the last time you tried picking a fight with us?" Touya taunted as he strode closer to Katsuki and poked the blonde's shoulder harshly, but Katsuki was unfazed. 'I'm starting to regret my fucking decision.'

"How could I fucking forget? You used daddy's connections again to get me suspended. Can't stand on your own two feet, Touya- senpai?"

Touya glared daggers at Katsuki, grabbing the younger boy's shirt. "Why you fucking--" Katsuki was prepared for whatever impact that was about to come, but suddenly someone pulls the back of his jacket, surprising both him and Touya.

"Woops! Good morning!" Katsuki's eyes widened as he heard that familiar voice, he turned around and came face to face with Izuku, who was grinning sheepishly up the three taller boys. "Touya-senpai, Tomura-senpai...Good morning!" He greeted.

Both Tomura and Touya softened up by the green-haired boy's presence. "Good morning, little Izuku. You seem cheerful this morning. Did anything good happen?" Touya speaks in a disgustingly sweet tone, well, it was disgusting for Katsuki. Izuku lets go of his jacket to walk in front of Katsuki, with his hands behind his back as he leaned towards Touya and Tomura with his sweet, angelic smile.

"Yup! I just found out our group will be releasing a new song soon, and I got a new friend! So, I'm in a pretty good mood. Hehe." Izuku giggles, making the two older students smile at him. Tomura reaches out his hand to caress Izuku's hair gently, as if he was some cute puppy from a pound.

'New friend? Does he mean...' Katsuki thought to himself as he stared at the back of Izuku's head.

"You've got a new friend. Hm? Are they from this school too? From your class, perhaps?" Tomura asked, completely ignoring Katsuki's presence now. Katsuki was both shocked and amazed, he knew that Izuku was fairly popular in their school, not just because he's an idol, but because of him in general, but he didn't think he had people eating from the palm of his hands. Izuku's smile grew as he stood up straight.

He turns his head slightly, his eyes falling on Katsuki, who stared back in return. Izuku grabs Katsuki's arm and pulls him to his side, much to the blonde's horror. "This guy is my new friend!" He exclaimed. Both Tomura and Touya froze in shock as they glanced in between Izuku and Katsuki, not only them but a few onlookers and eavesdroppers also stopped dead in their tracks as all eyes were now on Katsuki.

Whispers erupted from the crowd the moment everyone realized that Izuku wasn't joking. Katsuki couldn't help but lean towards Izuku a bit to whisper. "Is this your plan to make me love life? " He imitated Izuku's voice. "Because this is making me hate life even more."

Izuku covered his mouth to laugh. "Just trust me on this." He whispered back, giving Katsuki a small wink as he turned his attention back to Tomura and Touya, who were still shell-shocked. "Well, it was nice seeing you both, Senpais! We'll be heading to our class now." He waves and it's as if Izuku predicted it well, the school bell rings.

As soon as it did, Katsuki felt his arm getting tugged and Izuku dragged him away from the two assholes, and into the school. Of course, hundreds of eyes followed their every step, people whispered amongst themselves, but Izuku didn't seem at all bothered by it.

Katsuki didn't know how to feel.

"You know, you really got to stop answering every person's taunts. I'm sure you're well-aware that no matter who starts the fight with you, as long as you're involved. You're automatically the one who gets detention, right?" Izuku says with a quiet tone, obviously not wanting onlookers to hear them.

"What do you expect me to do? Just let them do what they fucking want? They're assholes."

"Yes, but they're influential assholes. Stop making things worse for you than it already is, Kacchan." That was true. Todoroki Touya was the son of their town's chief of police, while Shigaraki Tomura was apparently the son of an unnamed corrupt government official. It was one of the reasons why Katsuki had such a hard time both at school and in town. 'Wait, hold on--'

"Kacchan? Who the hell is Kacchan?" Katsuki questioned, still getting dragged by Izuku. The green-haired boy nodded, as he looked at Katsuki with a bright smile.

"I was thinking last night...Bakugou Katsuki-kun is such a long name. If I call you Katsuki, it just feels weird. So, I decided that I'll be calling you Kacchan from now on. It's cute and easy to remember."

"It's fucking stupid."

"Oh really?" Izuku asked with a cheeky tone. "Doesn't look like you hate it though." The boy stops walking and lets go of Katsuki's arm as soon as they arrive outside of their classroom. "Anyways, I wasn't really asking you permission if I could call you Kacchan but yeah. I hope you didn't forget what you promised last night?"

"Whatever it was. I took it back, it was just made in the heat of the moment."

Izuku rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms against his chest. "No backsies! I already helped you out earlier and basically announced to the school that you, Bakugou Katsuki, devil of U.A high school, are now friends with me, the adorable, lovely, and angelic idol, lead singer of the group HERO."

"Wow. You're so humble it's making my fucking heart hurt." Katsuki said with an emotionless voice, making Izuku hit him gently on the arm.

"I'm serious, Kacchan! Starting today, we're friends. You can't get rid of me. I'm keeping my word true, I'll help you fall in love with life again, and we'll both get through this coming of age story with happy endings!"

Katsuki tilted his head to the side. "Oh yeah? How are you going to do that."

A mischievous smile appeared on the green-haired boy's face as held a finger towards his lips. "That's a secret. I'll tell you during recess. For now, let's get inside class. I don't want to ruin my perfect record of being early to class."

"Nerd."

"Hey! Being perfect is also a very hard job." Izuku scolded as he held the door to their classroom, before Izuku opened the door, he turned his head a bit to the side to look at Katsuki. "But seriously, I hope you don't mind me calling you Kacchan. I just...felt like calling you that." Katsuki stared at Izuku for a few moments then scoffed a bit as he slung his bag to his shoulder, looking away from Izuku's gaze.

"Whatever. I don't care what you want." Izuku's face brightened the moment Katsuki said that, with no more words, he happily skips inside the classroom, and Katsuki follows behind him. Yes. Katsuki did not mind whatsoever that Izuku wanted to give him a nickname.

After all,

'He's the reason I'm still alive.'
