Of migraines and much needed breaks

Summary:

Senkuu used to get an awful lot migraines back in the modern world. However, he was spared from them for quite some time now.
Unfortunately, his luck once again runs out (well, it wasn’t really there in the first place) and he falls prey to one again.

Thankfully, a certain magician is always happy to help his crush.
If it wouldn’t be that overwhelming…

Notes:

It really, really was supposed to be only Senkuu-centric, but I’m a big sucker for Gen angst….so yeah ;)
Hope you like it <3

Work Text:

Senkuu is, in all means, not someone who lets his nerves get the better of him. As someone who's goal it is to restore humanity and the world itself, he simply doesn't have the time and the patience for his current misery.
After all, it was just a tiny, little headache.
Nothing to extreme.
He can work through that. (That the logic part of his brain kept screaming at him like crazy...well, that can be ignored for now)
So, like every good leader of a kingdom like the kingdom of science, Senkuu stubbornly  threw himself at his work.
After all, a ship doesn't build itself sadly.

He was currently going over the plans for the ship once more, than a certain magician entered the lab.

"Good morning, Senkuu-Chan!"

Senkuu sighed deeply, but averted his eyes from the table and looked up to Gen.
His vision swam a little, but it was back to normal within a few seconds, so Senkuu didn't pay it any more mind.

However, Gen, as observant as always, noticed the small hesitation in Senkuu's movements immediately. He frowned, but otherwise didn't made a comment about it.

"I assume your ditching work again?" Senkuu was all to familiar to Gen 's usual tactics by now.

" Ah well, I mean, I wouldn't call it ditching! I came here to help my dear Senkuu-Chan of course!"
The magician gave him one of his iconic grins. (Those who let the butterflies in Senkuu 's stomache fly like crazy)

Senkuu shot him a knowing look, but didn't send him back to work. (Kaseki should be all right working alone)

Instead the scientist simply turned back to the construction plans.

The former entertainer took this as a clue and made himself comfortable next to Senkuu.

Well, comfortable he was not.
Since this morning, Gen knew something was up with their leader.

It were only tiny hints, but as a psychologist who was well informed about the human's physics and health system, he simply couldn't ignore them.

So, the actual reason for staying in the lab, was simply his unberable, lingering worry.

Let alone the fact that the scientist had let him stay and ditch work without any complains set alarm clocks in his head.

So, the magician did one of the things he was best at and observed his Senkuu-Chan while the other worked.

Of course, Senkuu eventually caught onto the fact that he 's been watched, and he for sure would have commented on it, weren't it for the sudden nausea and weird new black spots in his vision.

He tried blinking them off, but the movement alone only made his headache worse.
The signs his body gave him were obvious, but he also needed to get his work done....

'These plans are important for the ship 's progress. The longer I take here, the longer it will take for the ship to be ready to sail. We finally have a captain and a cook, I can't disappoint the others. I am their leader! I need to function properly in order for everything to work out.'

Senkuu's mind ran rampant as he desperately tried to figure out a beneficial solution for his problem.

Observing Senkuu led Gen to two realizations:
The guy was handsome and kinda hot  and
He has a migraine but is to stubborn to admit it.
Observation one wasn't of importance for this case, but Gen still loved to point it out.

Evidence of the migraine can be found by the way he squeezed his eyes together every once in a while, the way his body swayed lightly and the way he 's holding his head in his hands. And the simple fact that he looks a shade paler than usual.

After around thirty minutes of observing, Gen grew tired of the obvious facts in front of him and formed his master plan...
Another half an hour later, the magician approached the scientist...who probably hadn't even noticed him leaving. He currently seemed deep in thought again.

Since he didn't want to startle Senkuu in his current state, Gen whispered gently in the scientist's ear: "I know what's up with you, Senkuu-Chan~, you don't have to hide things from me, you know~ "

Despite Gen 's gentle tone, Senkuu was startled out of his thoughts nonetheless...and  immediately froze as his muffled brain registrated the mentalist's words.
'So..he really knew the whole time? Could have figured...'

After the first shock was over, Senkuu 's expression changed back into his slightly pained form as his headache made itself noticeable again.
Still, he couldn't just simply take a break....
"Well, what you gonna do about it, mentalist? I still have work to do and despite the fact that you're older than me, our physical abilities don't give a big enough difference for you to overpow-"

"Here I am, Gen! So, there 's the difficult patient?"
As Senkuu turned around, he was greeted to the sight of his childhood friend Taiju standing in the entrance of the lab...next to a pretty sly looking magician.

A shiver ran down his spin as his mind already puzzled together what was abound to happen.

"Thanks for coming, Taiju. Could you pick up our stubborn scientist and carry him to our hut for me?"
Senkuu felt absolutely betrayed by Gen 's innocent puppy eyes.
Taijou, however, took one glance at Gen, flashed him his iconic grin, nodded and then turned his attention completely to the scientist.

"Gen already told me what's going on. Haha, I remember you getting migraines like these all the time then we were younger"
Senkuu cringed at Taiju 's loud voice:
"Yeah, and I remember your shouting being extra loud during them, big oaf"

Taiju looked guilty for a second, but stayed keen on the task given to him.
"Well Senkuu, it's either me carrying you there or you going yourself"

Senkuu contemplated his options for a second.
Sighing, he let his grip loose from the table (then had he even grabbed it?) and tried regaining his balance...only for his knees to miserably give out on him.
Luckily, Taiju caught him in time and in one swift motion threw the scientist over his shoulder.
The nausea was nearly unbearable, but Senkuu forced it back down.
This whole situation was already humiliating enough without him puking on his friend.

But, even the scientist himself couldn't lie to himself forever.
With a sigh and an annoyed expression, he loosened the tension in his body and silently allowed Taiju to carry him.

Gen in the meantime, stood by him and begrudgingly watched every step Taiju took during the small walk to Chrome 's hut. And even though it was short, it was enough for Senkuu 's exhausted head to fall asleep on his friends shoulder.
Gen could have exploded from the pure jealousy of this situation right here and there.

"All right, Gen, I will go back to the others now. You sure you have it under control?"
Taiju gave the still sleeping Senkuu a thoughtful look.
"These migraines can make him quite a handful depending how bad it is, of course."

Gen was really starting to wonder how often Senkuu-Chan had gotten a migraine already.
"I have it under control, don't worry your big head about it, Taiju-kun~"

"Ok, if you say so...."
Taiju gave the magician one final concerned look, but decided to trust the others words and ventured out of the hut.
As soon as Taiju was out of sight, Gen let out a dramatic sigh, mentally preparing himself for the task he was given.

That he had never in his life taking care of a sick person goes unsaid.
'Well, shouldn't be too hard, right?'

________________________________________________________________________________
Scratch Gen 's former thoughts.
Taking care of a sick Senkuu is not something his former career had ever prepared him for.

What Gen thought as a simple migraine (those he had all the time in the old world) turned out as a total nightmare in Senkuu 's case.

While  asleep, his face still managed to twist in pain and agony.
Gen had no idea what to do anymore.
A fever, he could treat with antibiotics and a cold cloth.
A wound could be sanitized with alcohol and patched up with a bandage.
But a migraine?

The only things he came up with, was taking some stuff from the all-cure they still had in the lab and getting a bucket just in case.

Still, Gen felt absolutely helpless.
He knew he would end up in a panic attack if he couldn't stop his rampaging mind from overthinking soon.

'Why...why can I never be there for him like he 's always there for me?
Why, oh why can I never be good enough for the people I love?"
Thoughts like these spiraled in and out of his head.

However, the moment his vision started to blur, he felt a light hand holding onto his arm.
Surprised from the sudden contact, Gen yelped and looked down on himself.

There was the love of his life calmly holding onto his arm.
Senkuu still looked like he was in pain, but he had a small, reassuring smile on his face.
Warmth circled through Gen and he couldn't help but smile as well.
Something about Senkuu always seems to calm him down somehow.

It took Senkuu a while to get to a more conscious state.
But as he started to feel his surroundings more and more, he began to hear quiet panicking from the side.
Without opening his eyes, Senkuu tried to remember what happened before he lost consciousness.
A shiver went down his spin as the realization hit him.
To confirm his suspicion the scientist slowly opened his eyes, blurriness masking his surroundings.
Still his eyes fell on the person next to him. Gen.
Senkuu 's heart broke in pieces at the side of his love in front of him.
Shivering, trembling and close to tears.
Even with his nasty migraine, Senkuu knew Gen was overwhelmed from the sheer situation.

So, since he couldn't move right now, Senkuu spotted Gen 's arm and gently took it, hoping to smooth the magician 's mind with this little action.
Surprisingly it even seemed to work.
The magician returned his smile shyly.
The atmosphere shifted from overwhelming to comfortable.
They sat like that together for a few more moments, words didn't need to be exchanged since they both already knew what the other would say.
In the next few hours, Gen was able to calm down completely, giving Senkuu his medicine for the headache and cleaning his puke (which the other thankfully mangaged to gag into the bucket).

The only words they exchanged were a weak 'thank you' from Senkuu and a gentle 'No problem, Senkuu-Chan~' from Gen in return.
In the evening, Senkuu lay in his bed, relieved from pain, and with an exhausted now asleep Gen next to him on a chair.
Even though Senkuu could still not understand this feeling called 'love',  for the first time, his thoughts surrounding his feelings for the magician only felt comfortable and secure.
He simply hoped Gen would feel the same.
