“Gwen” A voice had pulled Gwen out of her thoughts.
A cold, yet familiar hand graced her shoulder, she looked up at who it was.Hobie.She shook her head slightly, figuring she must have gotten lost in the dreadful void that was her thoughts.
“You all right?” He asked, his sharp British accent being ever so present in his voice.
“Yeah” Gwen sighed and tied her blonde hair into a ponytail.Hobie smiled a little, he must have seen the fiery look of determination in Gwen’s face and felt proud.
“We’re going to find him” He said seriously, like he truly meant what he said.Gwen still felt anxious despite his effort at comforting words.
“I know” Said Gwen, her voice not much more than a whisper.The portal shined on Hobie’s face, enlightening his features, he looked up at it confidently.
Gwen turned around, she was met with a group of awaiting faces, all of these people she knew looked unrecognisable cast in the rainbow lights of the portal.
They all had one thing in common though, every single one of them had a look of pity for Gwen.It’s like they could read her mind and they saw the embarrassment and shame she kept built up.She felt so, so bad for what she did to Miles.She was really looking forward to apologising.
“Are we ready?” Gwen asked, her voice shaking a little.
Everyone nodded.Gwen looked back at Hobie, where he also gave an agreeing nod.She felt a little more empowered now that everyone was focusing on finding miles.It gave her a little bit of hope that they COULD find him.
She was prepared to tell him everything.Her heart raced thinking about what to say to him.She had so many words to say, so many apologises and “I love yous”
Gwen did love him,With every vessel of heart and inch of her soul.She loved him more than she loved anything in this fucked up life, she was her only friend and her only reason to keep going.She always reminisced about the simpler times of their friendship, before any of this.
She sucked her stomach in and took a deep breath.
She felt herself slipping away from reality every breath she took.It was nice.But she couldn’t save miles if she kept slipping away.She looked into the portal as everyone flew in.Hobie went shortly after putting his mask on.She wished she was as calm and collected as him.She looked away from the portal for a quick moment.Everything was so quiet, except for the hum of a million multiverses existing behind her.
The city was devoured in the sky, a satisfying blend of colour that Gwen could easily stare at for hours.
She let herself think about it all for a minute.
Spider society.Miguel and Jessica, how could they betray her like this? Mr. And Ms. Morales, how they possibly could’ve lost their son to another universe where he could be unsafe in.How she had basically betrayed miles herself, Another pang of regret hit her ribs.She wanted to cry, to let it all out in one big moment.She thought about her dad, how she loved him and how she wanted him to be happy and how she’ll probably might never see him again after this.Gwen sighed and let a single tear roll down her cheek.
Gwen thought about miles, she REALLY thought about miles.How he disrupted the canon.How she lied to him.
How his perfectly normal life was ruined by the actions of a radioactive spider.How he lived through the death of his uncle, how much he could’ve been hurt by king pin too.Gwen let herself cry a bit more thinking about miles.
She loved him so fucking much.Why did she keep fucking everything up?.
She looked back into the portal.She looked at all the cubes and colours inside.She needed to jump in there.
To save Miles.To save the multiverse and herself.
She wiped her tears.She took one more deep breath.
And without hesitation, jumped into the portal, getting sucked into the chaos that was the spider-verse.
