“Is anyone looking?” The answering noise has Lando turning his head with narrowed eyes.
“No you’re good babe you’re good sorry I got distracted,” Daniel’s eyes are fixed on his bare back and Lando feels a shiver run down his spine at the look in his boyfriend’s eyes. Not now.
“Hm,” he huffs and forces himself to turn back around and put on the shirt he so generously is being lended after using his puppy eyes approximately 3 times in as many minutes.
He does up the buttons carefully and feels another thrill at the reality of what’s happening, sure to the outsiders it’ll just be two friends joking around at a party, but he will know better.
From the look on Daniel’s face when he finally turns around to face him again he’s thinking the same thing. This is the most they’ve done without actually confirming their relationship and it sends a thrill like nothing else through Lando at how much he wants .
“Ready to head back?” Lando asks casually, stretching his arms and biting his lip not to smile when Daniel just stares at him for a solid few seconds before reacting to the question. They’d found a hidden corner near the edge of the beach when Lando finally succeeded in his mission to borrow Daniel’s shirt and from the looks of it, it's good nobody is around to witness this, Daniel really does have a shit poker face with him.
“Mm almost,” Daniel murmurs and takes a step forward caging Lando up against a tree he wasn’t aware of was there, until his back hits it with a thud and a the hint of an ache that is barely registered on Lando’s radar before full lips capture his own in a kiss that definitely would’ve alerted people this is not just a friend lending another friend a shirt.
Letting all caution in the wind Lando gives as good as he gets, opening his mouth and moaning when Daniel takes the opportunity to crowd against him further, his body heat radiating like a furnace and his hands feeling out Lando’s suddenly flaming hot skin under the borrowed shirt. Lando feels all coherent thoughts slip away when he gets his own hands in those soft curls he adores.
When air becomes a bit of an issue Daniel breaks away with a low gasp and Lando shivers at the cool air that fills the sudden space between their lips and their bodies when the other steps back. He tightens his grip in Daniel’s hair without realizing it, making Daniel’s eyes roll back and swear under his breath which gets Lando to bite his lip to cover his own reaction to the power he so easily holds over his boyfriend. Lando steps forward desperate to close the distance again, to feel as close as he can to him for as long as he can when someone is suddenly shouting their names quite loudly from a few meters away. Right. Public. Beach. Party. Fuck.
“After,” Daniel whispers, ignoring Scotty’s growing loudness as he approaches the two of them, still far too wrapped up in each other to be excused as anything but lovers but Lando doesn’t have the capacity to care about it right now, his lips are still swollen and he can still taste the artificial strawberry from Daniel’s last drink on his lips. Safe to say his priorities aren’t exactly in order right now.
Finally he manages a nod and leans in carefully to brush a kiss against the stubbled cheek of the man he loves so much it feels like a physical ache sometimes, and whispers a soft thank you for the shirt pulling back.
Scotty is casually standing next to them at this point with a surprisingly sympathetic look on his face, conveniently placed so that if anyone were to come from the party to look they wouldn’t see anything but his back and the silhouettes of other people behind him. Lando really does like Scotty.
“Ready to go back?” he asks, the loudness from before dimmed now that there’s no one else around and Lando shares a look with Daniel and then nods. The sooner they go back the sooner he can drag Daniel back to the hotel to get some much needed alone time before the frustrating reality of responsibilities comes back to pull them apart.
“Yeah let’s go,” Lando clears his throat and shakes his limbs a little, giggling when Daniel follows his lead and turns it into a makeshift dance move he pulls Scotty into without hesitation.
They make their way back towards the party, standing by the edge of the seating area when something catches his eye and Lando steps away gesturing for Daniel to hang on while Scotty follows his eyeline and just smiles and heads inside most likely to cause a distraction for them to get in unnoticed.
“What’s wrong bear?” Daniel comes up behind him and Lando just smiles at himself at the loving nickname and reaches his hand out to grab one of the beautiful red flowers he’s been looking at all night.
“Just thought your outfit was missing something now,” he grins when he turns around with the flower in his hand and Daniel looks at him questioningly but doesn’t move when he tucks the big flower behind his ear carefully, adjusting it until it’s sitting just right.
Lando knows he looks like an idiot in love at this point, completely enamored by the way his boyfriend so readily just lets him put a flower on him the same way he knows Daniel would literally give him his shorts if he asked despite pretending to put up a fight. He is okay with it though, he is hopelessly in love and right now he’s not gonna pretend he isn’t.
Finally looking into beautiful honey brown eyes, proud of his own work, his breath catches at the soft endeared look that awaits him. Daniel looks around quickly and pulls him in for a moment of closeness, rubbing their noses together sweetly and lips just shy of touching before pulling away and Lando’s heart is beating so hard in his chest he’s surprised it hasn’t cracked a rib yet. God this man…
“Thank you darling,” Daniel whispers and Lando swallows thickly and nods, suddenly shy in the wake of the overwhelming amount of emotions running through him.
“You’re welcome,” he grins gently and is stopped from going back to the entrance by a grip on his wrist.
“I actually think your outfit is missing something too though,” Daniel continues and leans towards the flowers, chests barely brushing together as he grabs one and so so carefully mirrors what Lando just did to him. Gently placing the flower behind his ear with the care of someone handling something far too precious for what Lando considers himself to be. He vaguely wonders if he’ll get used to that, part of him hopes he doesn’t.
“Now I reckon we’re gonna be the best looking guys at this party,” Daniel winks, breaking the moment and Lando giggles.
“Are you saying we weren’t before?” he teases and Daniel’s eyes sparkle with delight.
“Hmm you make a good point,” he scratches his chin thoughtfully and Lando laughs and grabs his hand to drag him inside.
“I always do you know,” he half shouts as the noise level rises and Daniel laughs behind him, their hands letting go only when other people are in sight and they find their seats around Scotty’s table. They sit down next to each other, Scotty quickly grabbing Daniel’s attention with an outlandish story from the last time they were in Australia and Lando eases back and lets the positive mood around him and the familiar scent of Daniel’s cologne on his shirt soothe him completely.
More than ready to enjoy the rest of the night surrounded by good people and the man he one day will call his own for the world to see, just you wait.
