"How would you like to be personal physician to the Prime?" you asked the lover whom you never thought you'd keep around this long. Technically the position of Prime's physician is already filled, but it's nothing a few words won't fix, or so you assumed.
Persuasion proves a little trickier than you thought. "It's not favoritism," you tell Sentinel, "when he's clearly the better choice."
"I won't hear of it," Sentinel replies, and is that a speck of emotion you detect, caught in his normally steady voice? Sentinel laces his next words with cool disdain but it's there, you think, a hint of anger, a hint of hurt. "What you're doing with that one is disgusting. I won't be a party to it," he says, "I've signed off on everything else."
