Work Text:
Rain had used to be nothing more than a simple occurrence in nature during his past days as the famous Deviant Hunter. At the time, he had never noticed how often it would pour in Detroit, never minding the drops of water that would fall over his face or cause his clothes to cling to his artificial skin uncomfortably. Now as a deviant himself, he had found himself becoming intrigued with the idea of rain.
He liked the way it looked when he stared up at the sky and watched it fall, or when the water would plummet past one of the city's bright billboards and change colours for the briefest moment, or when it would drop upon the surface of the window and slowly race down to the bottom. It was, in a more simple form, pretty.
Analysing the rain from the dry surroundings of his partner's home was one thing, but simply sitting by the window and just watching it saturate everything it touched, was peaceful, calming, joyful, and fascinating.
And he found it just as fascinating that his lover had a familiar passion for a similarly beautiful part of nature.
Whenever snow would fall in Detroit, she would be glued to the window just as much as he would be whilst watching the rain. The ground outside would be slowly covered with a cold and thick white carpet, and only continued to build up as more flakes of snow drifted lazily down to the ground in a silent matter.
Her blissful nature as she watched the sights before her could be understood by him. The snow could be equally as pretty, and though he himself preferred rain, he could deal with snow when it would come. After all, it was just slower and quieter and brighter. Just frozen rain. And if he ever got tired of watching the snow, he could always just look to his side and watch her instead.
The short hair upon her head was almost identical to the colour of snow, with the same shade of white and the same similar glistening effect it would give off in the light. When he reached up and ran his hand through it, the snow-white locks felt just as soft as snow itself. All she did after glancing at him briefly was laugh before leaning further into his touch and continuing to watch what was on the outside. She was much prettier than the rain and the snow altogether.
With time, her love for snow remained, but her new love for rain only grew, pushing away the several past bad experiences that occurred while it just so happened to be raining, and replacing them with more fonder memories.
Oddly enough, she found that if her beloved could find peace of mind in the rain, then she could as well. When the rather gloomy weather was accompanied by the loud growls of thunder, she would comfort her frightened daughter and soothe her by letting her watch the rain with her through the window. The streetlights would appear dim through the soaked glass, and the calming darkness and the safe feeling of her mother's arms wrapped around her would lull the young child off to sleep for the rest of the night.
Then later on in the night, he would return home from the DPD in a bizarre state. His jacket was drenched and his hair was soaked and sticking to his head whilst water dripped off from his clothes, his LED shining as a bright blue. He had walked home because of the rain. He hadn't felt cold or miserable, just sheepish joy all over his expression.
About five minutes were spent in the bathroom trying to dry his hair, making it now look darker and dishevelled, before he was given his warmest set of pyjamas to change into. Another five minutes later, after she herself had changed into her bedroom attire, he had finally left the bathroom and crawled into bed with her, where they immediately tangled together in a tight yet comfortable hug.
She fiddled with his hair. It was still damp with the constant drizzle caused by the rain that she could hear now, pouring onto the roof heavily. She felt him sigh from beside her. Peaceful. She loved the rain just as much as she loved the snow. And she loved him even more than that.
