The figure was advancing ever so slowly though the dimly lit corridor. One step, then a full stop. What felt like minutes later the action was repeated. Harry forced his limbs to stay still, to not betray his presence, his breath to stay even. It wouldn't do to be spotted now. At the end of the corridor lay what they were both seeking, but he was only half way there, and the figure was creeping ever closer.
Tightening the grip on his wand, he considered his options. He could leap forward and shoot a hex at his pursuer, or he could possibly set a trap and sneak away. It would, however, be difficult to move away unseen. He would have to run and hope for the best.
A sudden sound from the room at the end of the corridor whipped his mind into action, and his body reacted instinctively. The advancing figure had also perked up at the sound, picking up its pace. Quick as lightning, Harry wielded his wand.
“Rictusempra!” he yelled before dashing forwards, all thoughts of stealth gone in an instant. The ensuing giggles echoed through the corridor, and Harry cursed himself for his choice of spell. So much for stealth and surprise.
Feeling high on this new burst of adrenaline, Harry reached the door in a few long strides, but stopped short with his hand on the handle. Taking one, steadying breath, he pushed it down gently and as noiselessly as he could. He peeked inside before slowly entering, but all seemed quiet and empty. Gingerly he looked about the room, and nearly jumped out of his skin.
“What exactly are you playing at?” an inquisitive voice drawled from behind the door. Draco's arms were folded authoritatively across his chest and one eyebrow was perfectly cocked. “I thought we were teaching the children not to duel?”
Harry felt himself blush, but before he had a chance to respond, however, a small figure came flying into the room, exclaiming, “No fair! I wanted to surprise attack Daddy!”
Draco sighed in mock exasperation. “You're hopeless. Did you really think you could sneak up on me?” He scooped Scorpius into a hug and whispered, “I'll tickle you next!”
