Summary
Akutagawa was always difficult to understand; he kept himself distant from the rest of the world and never let anyone get to know his true self. Sometimes the man himself wondered whether there even was a true self within him, or if that had been taken by Rashoumon as well. But it's easy to understand someone who reminds you of yourself, and so he began to understand Atsushi, who had puzzled him from the moment they met by putting others before himself.
To understand is to know, and Akutagawa thinks he knows Atsushi. But can they really understand each other if they don't know how it felt for each of them?
To understand is to feel, so that Akutagawa can understand him, Atsushi teaches him to feel.
