Work Text:
The first time Kit saw Ty, Ty had been holding a knife to his throat. And even then, Kit’s only thought was ‘He’s beautiful.’
Kit remembered that as he looked at Ty now. Ty’s grey eyes studied the television intently, beautifully focused, and part way through the show, he exclaimed, “That's not what happened in the books, Kit!”
Kit grinned and asked, “So, how does it happen in the books?” And he watched Ty’s face light up as he explained. And Kit didn’t know what to do, because he’d never loved somebody this much in his life, and it felt as if at any moment, it would all burst out of him and he’d melt into a pile of goo on the floor.
Ty gradually moved himself across the sofa during his explanation, and his eyes were bright with excitement, and Kit loved him. He pushed stray black hairs out of his eyes and crossed his arms when he'd finished talking, waiting for Kit to agree with him.
“I love you,” Kit said instead.
Ty started. Kit belatedly realized that was the first time he had said that out loud since The Incident years ago. “I know,” Ty said finally, and Kit dropped his face into Ty’s shoulder, shaking with laughter because he didn’t know if Ty had quoted Star Wars on purpose or by accident.
“It was on purpose,” Ty said. “I love you too.”
Kit smiled wide enough that his face hurt, and he leaned his forehead on Ty’s shoulder. Ty gripped his arm hard enough to feel wonderful, and Kit had never known he could feel this much happiness until now.
