BF23 - Day I - Fic I - Force Sensitive Kallus

Summary:

In attempt to bond with Ezra, Kallus brings back an old habit of his. A skill that he's only ever used out of necessity, for survival, is now being used for playfulness.

He doesn't know if it's working, but he hopes it is.

Notes:

For sure the fics I post this week will not be our best quality, no beta for these, barely any editing if they were edited at all.

The scene with the panic attack is marked beginning and end with the following:

I hope yall enjoy this.

Work Text:

Kallus isn’t sure which one of them started this… game, as Ezra calls it. Though it awakened an old survival habit, it certainly wasn’t unwelcome.

When Zeb requested that Kallus try to make friends with the other rebels, starting with the ghost crew, he was… apprehensive, to say the least. Comradery wasn’t something that he’s practiced in a number of years. For a long while there, Kallus supposes that he just became accustomed and then lost to the mundane pull against the grain of the Empire.

Kanan had welcomed Kallus with open arms pretty early on to his rescue, very much to Kallus’s delighted surprise. Out of all the Spectres that would be among the first to welcome Kallus with such warmth in their entire body, Kanan was one of the last on the list. Kanan also helped Kallus through a lot of his internal struggles, but he supposes that may just be a natural talent for Jedi. However, when Kallus and Hera started becoming closer, at both Zeb and Kanan’s initial request, Kanan had become a bit distant for awhile. Kallus was worried he had done something to upset the jedi knight. When he told Zeb everything, Zeb gave quite possibly the deepest and longest laugh Kallus had ever heard before telling Kallus that, no, he didn’t do anything, Kanan was jealous. Just the notion, the realization, was enough to have Kallus join in on the laughter. He did still go to Kanan afterwards to straighten the situation out.

It had taken a lot of work, but Kallus did eventually start forming a friendship with Hera. Kallus greatly admires her. She’s the most talented pilot he’s ever had the privilege of meeting and flying with- and she’s genuinely one of the best people in the galaxy. She can be stern, but there’s still a softness to her, a friendliness that puts him at ease. Though, he didn’t meet that side of her for quite awhile. Initially, she was quite icy toward him, and understandably so. Honestly, if he were welcome with warmth by everyone right off the bat, he would’ve probably lost his mind. Or thought they were all mad. Or both. So the slower build of trust with Hera Syndulla was a relief to Kallus. He always trusted her at face value for anything because he knew she wouldn’t sugarcoat. Slowly though, she did start doing her motherly doting to him as he had seen her do to her crew. And when that started, it did raise some anxiety in him. He still hadn’t figured out how to cope with and accept help from others when she started doing this, so out of reflex, he just did it back. And her reaction mirrored his own. The more she would dote on him, the more he would dote back. Sometimes they even bickered back and forth over who could do more for the other.

And- for whatever unfounded reasoning- Chopper uncharacteristically, allegedly, was enthused to have Kallus around. Not that the man minds, in fact he loves having long conversations with the droid. It just surprises Kallus whenever anyone talks about how much of a menace he supposedly is. Maybe if they just tried harder to get along with the C1-10P unit, they wouldn’t have as many difficulties. He and Kallus seem to get along just fine…

Kallus gulps.

At least he hopes they do.

With Sabine, the two of them had some conversations about how they similarly worked for and then left the Empire. Sabine would make jokes about how it took him so long and Kallus laughed along, because looking back, he had been so foolish. Kallus taught her how to more effectively do hand-to-hand combat and she picked it up quite quickly. In return, Sabine would take it upon herself to help Kallus stand up for himself with rebels who were… agitated with his presence on the rebel base. Though, his interactions weren’t in the same quantity as they were with the other spectres.

And Ezra.

Kallus still cringes inwardly at the first few weeks of him having been rescued after Atollon. It wasn’t that Ezra had given him the cold shoulder, just more of… Strongly worded distaste. And it never had anything to do with the fact that he worked with the Empire and had done terrible things. No, Ezra never touched that topic. But he did dig into literally anything else. Eventually his disdainful words turned into harmless yet inconvenient pranks.

However, there was one prank that Ezra had attempted several times but was unsuccessful at. Kallus has long known that Ezra once had a habit of pickpocketing. And since literally every other attempt Kallus made to try and befriend Ezra had failed, Kallus made a risky decision to try and play Ezra’s game.

Kallus was shocked when it worked. Or at least he thinks it worked?

The pickpocketing of each other has been something the two have played for the past couple of months. And Ezra has been friendly to him on and off. More at ease, more playful, even if sometimes frustrated with Kallus’s surprising expertise.

And Kallus was trying not to be smug about the fact that he was winning.

At least trying not to be smug to Ezra. Kallus would keep Zeb updated on the score regularly. And Zeb made a laughing statement of how Kallus and Ezra were more alike than he thought.

“And the thing is, we were talking, we were actively having a conversation when I swiped his gloves from the table.”

“Like Coru Rat like Loth Rat,” Zeb shakes his head as he chuckles, pulling Kallus in closer on his bunk, tightening his grip along his waist.

Kallus playfully swats at Zeb’s shoulder, “Hush, he still doesn’t know that bit of information.”

Zeb eyes dart up to Kallus’s. “Sasha. You still have him convinced that you’re from the upper crust of Coruscant?”

Humming distantly, Kallus rubs soothing circles around Zeb’s ears. “Garazeb, that’s not exactly a difficult thing to make people think. Most of the rebels here operate under that assumption. I look, act, and speak like one.”

The other tries to hold back the purr that rumbles in his chest and throat, “So where does Ez think you learned this?”

Kallus smirks as he relaxes into Zeb’s arms. “I told him Jabba the Hutt.”

“I assume that is shorthand for ‘none ya’.”

“Technically,” smugness bleeds through Kallus’s expression as he pinches the other, “it’s longer.”

Zeb raises his voice in a mocking pitch, “Technically…” he begins to viciously poke and prod at Kallus’s sides.

“Zeb- Don’t!” Laughter forces its way out of Kallus’s chest as he is mercilessly attacked. He has nowhere to go, no room to fight back as Zeb uses his weight to pin him down. “Betrayal!” Despite his protest, Kallus enjoys the other’s playfulness; if he truly wanted Zeb to stop, he would stop him, but he longs for this closeness and lightheartedness from the other. So he allows Zeb to pull shrill giggles and screeches from him.

Kallus is nearly lightheaded when the other suddenly stops. He looks up with a soft smile as a few more breathless giggles leaves his lips. Those dying fits of laughter are stolen by Zeb as he leans down to kiss Kallus, and Kallus happily returns the chaste motion, gently brushing his thumbs up and down Zeb’s jawline. When Zeb pulls back, Kallus almost follows him. He eases back down to the padded bunk as Zeb cards his fingers through Kallus’s hair, combing through the golden locks. With a soft smile, Kallus hums. Zeb leans down for another kiss, but Kallus feels movement nearing the door.

“Zeb, up,” Kallus firmly but lightly pushes at Zeb’s shoulders. He watches as one of Zeb’s ears flick before the other rebel quickly gets to his feet and begins to stretch. In the same motion, Kallus sits up then leans against the pillow as he crosses one leg over the other, pretending to disinterestedly swipe some dust off of his leg.

The door flies open just seconds later.

“Zeb. Alex.”

Kallus looks to the door, as if just noticing that there was someone there. He offers a small smile and a nod. “Jabba.” Kallus loves how this always almost brings a smile to Ezra’s face.

Ezra seems to take great effort into holding back a smile, trying so hard to look annoyed. “Dost thou have my kriffing gloves?”

His smile turning coy, Kallus looks over to Zeb. “Oh Bridger, whatever do you mean?”

His partner coughs to try and hide his laughter.

The teen leans against the door. And just stares.

Two can play this game. Kallus stares back unblinkingly.

Zeb looks between the two for a moment and waves his hand through their vision, and neither flinches, blinks, nor looks away. “Are you two seriously havin’ a starin’ contest right now?”

Deciding to be the first to break the silence, Ezra squints at Kallus. “When did you even have the chance to steal them?”

“How are you certain it was me?”

“I already interrogated Chopper.”

“Oh that poor droid.”

Ezra and Zeb tense at the same time, “Poor droid my ass.” The two spectres glance at each other before looking back to Kallus.

“You take them off to occasionally wash your hands before you eat.”

Kallus leans over to Zeb and pulls the gloves out of his pocket, the other man letting out a surprised yelp. “When did you-”

Kallus ignores the small noise of protest as he continues. “You do so whenever Hera makes the crew any type of dish, even if it’s just sliced produce. And you do it with the leftovers, not just fresh meals. You tend not to put them back on until you have finished your meal.” He holds the pair of gloves up to the teen.

Ezra stalks over and swipes his gloves before putting them back on. “You mean to tell me that you stole them while I was looking at you? Because that’s the last I saw both you and them. How in the ever loving Force did you steal them without me noticing?”

“Wait,” Zeb looks between the two of them and makes a cut motion, “time out and back up,” he looks over to Kallus, “you two were making eye contact when you did this? He was watching you and you still managed to take them without even the slightest notice?”

Once Kallus gives a slight nod of his head, Zeb hunches over in a fit of laughter.

The teen cuts his eyes at his roommate. “It’s not that funny.”

“It’s a little bit funny, Bridger. However, I was trying to spare you some dignity. Can’t have the Loth Rat being out theft.” Kallus tilts his head as Ezra turns his glare to the other.

Kallus watches as Ezra’s tongue presses harshly at the inside of his cheek, formulating a response. “Alright, Corucrusti. Enlighten me as to how you managed to swipe my shit while I was looking at you.”

“I’m simply just more experienced than you.”

Ezra crosses his arms over his chest. “No. Try again. I want full details.”

“I’m just very unnoticeable sometimes.”

“BULL.” Ezra curls his lip, “There isn’t anything unnoticeable about your six foot four ass-” Ezra takes a deep breath in as he brings his hands together. “Please, go into more detail.”

As Zeb tries once again to smother his laughter, Kallus decides to stop pushing his luck before he ends up actually upsetting the other. He glances away, rubbing the side of his neck, “Well, to start off, I’ll finally admit to you that I’m not actually from the upper levels of Coruscant.”

“I do not believe for a second that you’re from the lower levels,” Ezra’s jaw comically drops, “You’re lying.”

Kallus leans back against the pillow once more. “Am I?” Without waiting for a response, Kallus continues, “I learned many skills in my youth, carefully cultivated them to perfection for survival. Pickpocketing was a specialty. And I learned how to easily get away with riskier moves by… Just. Quieting my mind?” Kallus holds a hand to his chin, trying to explain his process. “It’s hard to put into words, but I just imagine myself blending in. I put myself in a state of ease and comfort and it feels like I’ve dissipated, whatever I do becomes unnoticeable. This was actually how I managed to evade detection from the Empire as Fulcrum for a while.”

Pursing his lips, Ezra stares blankly at the space in front of him. “You mean to tell me you meditate for a few seconds and you make yourself invisible?” Ezra stays stuck in what Kallus calls a ‘processing’ mode.

“Not physically invisible, but, yeah in a sense.”

“How-” Ezra stops and shakes his head. “You’re kriffing with me. This is just an elaborate joke.”

Kallus drops his hand from his chin to give the other a deadpan look. “Ezra Bridger, when have you ever known me to joke?”

“Hmm, actually, Sasha, kid’s gotta bit of a point. This does sound weird.”

Turning his look to his partner, Kallus raises a brow. “You think I’m lying?”

“No, not at all.” Zeb puts his hands up in surrender. “This just sounds… strange. You manifest not being seen, and then you aren't. Never met anyone who boosted skills with just thoughts and prayers. At least not anyone who wasn't a Jedi.”

“I have an idea, Alex.”

Looking back to Ezra, Kallus crosses his arms. “Oh, do tell.”

“To prove that you can do what you say you can do, I want you to steal Kanan’s lightsaber right off his belt.”

Gulping, Kallus thinks over this for a moment. “Ezra, I don't think that's a good idea…” Entertaining Ezra at his own game is one thing; they both have an unspoken agreement, an arrangement. But to steal from an unknowing Kanan? Kallus can feel the back of his neck burn in discomfort. He looks to Zeb in a silent plea for help.

“You can say no, Sasha, but. You did steal Ezra's saber last week with no problem.”

The young rebel throws his arms up in disbelief, “you swiped my lightsaber?! When was I going to be told this? And you gave it back without me noticing?”

Kallus doesn’t answer that. Instead, he takes a deep breath. It's a simple task, theoretically. All he has to do is swipe the hilt, present it to Bridger, and then put it back where he found it. Yeah. Keep it simple.

“I’ll do it.”

Garazeb and Ezra are such bad influences, sometimes.

___

And that is how Kallus is in his current predicament.

Alexsandr Kallus is maintaining his calm as he walks away from one Kanan Jarrus, lightsaber of the Jedi Knight in hand. Focusing on continuing to allow his panic to pass him rather than hold too tight to it. Kallus doesn't leave the calmness of his trance until he is far away from Kanan, until he is walking into the Ghost to where Zeb and Ezra are waiting.

And the moment he allows himself to leave the trance, he tenses up before relaxing again; then the panic washes over him for an intense moment.

+++

Throat tightening, Kallus finds himself unable to push air in or out of his lungs. A heat travels down his spine, slowly electrifying his nerves. As the emotions begin to set in, his vision starts to blur. He tries to gasp for breath that doesn't come.

The tiny, strangled sound catches Zeb's attention, he turns and notices Kallus leaning over, hand clutching his chest as he tries to even his erratic breathing. “Sasha!” He rushes to the man's side and stops short, hesitant to touch him before permission is granted.

Kallus brings his hand from his chest to reach out for his partner, who quickly offers his own hand for Kallus to hold and rubs circles into Kallus’s back with his other.

Ezra worriedly steps to the otherside of Kallus, “Alex?” He kneels beside him. “In, one, two, three, four,” Ezra slowly counts as he guides Kallus through a breathing exercise. “And out for one, two, three, four…”

The two rebels continue to help Kallus back to himself. It doesn’t take long for air to fill his lungs, and his desperate attempts to turn into slow, rhythmic breathing. He relaxes into Zeb’s arms. “My apologies. I haven’t had one of those in… years.”

“You don’t have to apologize-”

Kallus would have laughed, if he could, hearing that in stereo.

Zeb pulls Kallus closer to him, a purr vibrating in his chest. “What happened?”

“I think I might’ve just started overthinking at the end there. I didn’t properly prepare myself for exiting the trance. I rushed too much.” The words are leaving his tongue too quickly, he’s not even sure if any of it came out coherently. He does the breathing exercise one more time. As he does, he allows himself to lean closer into Zeb’s soft fur, Zeb’s scent filling his lungs as he inhales. Home.

“However, I did complete my task,” Kallus smirks as he hands Ezra the stolen saber.

Eyes going wide, Ezra studies the saber hilt. “And he didn't sense you?”

“Not unless he was intentionally letting me take the lightsaber.” Kallus wrings his hands, shifting in Zeb’s arms. “Speaking of which, may I go return this now? When I stole yours, it was only for a minute to see if I actually could do it. And I was certain that I was going to be caught.”

“Caught doing what?”

All three rebels tense as they slowly look to the ramp of the ghost.

Mouth going dry, Kallus watches as Kanan walks into view. Kallus hangs his head and gently takes the hilt from Ezra’s hands as he pushes himself from the comfort of Zeb’s embrace. He takes a deep breath and fixes his posture as he steps forward to meet Kanan.

“Kanan, I need to apologize to you.”

Kanan shakes his head with a laugh, “Again?” He places a hand on Kallus’s shoulder, “Alex, I told you before, you don't have to apologize for-”

“I stole your lightsaber.”

Kanan stops speaking and immediately reaches for his belt clip, eyebrows raising in shock. “When did you- How-”

“I’m sorry. I was just about to return it to you.” Kallus holds the saber out, waiting for backlash.

And when it doesn't come, when Kanan softly places his hand over Kallus’s, fingers brushing each other, Kallus looks back up to Kanan, not having realized his gaze had dropped.

“Just walk me through the process of how you accomplished this task.” Kanan offers his friend a smile. “I’m curious. Do that and I’ll call it even. Deal?”

The tension in Kallus’s body melts away as he gives a smile of his own. “Of course. Meet with you in the mainroom in five.” Kallus pulls his hands from Kanan’s and the saber before turning to Zeb and brushing their fingers together. In the corner of his vision, he watches as Ezra begins to speak to Kanan, giving the man some sort of confession.

When Zeb brushes some of Kallus’s hair out of his face, the man is brought back to himself. Kallus hums as he leans into the loving touch.

The smile that Zeb displays gives him a gentle glow. “Hey.”

Kallus mirrors the same expression back. “Hey.” He reaches up Zeb’s ears to lightly scratch behind them.

Then it’s Zeb’s turn to lean into the touch that is being given. “Sasha…”

“Hmm?”

Zeb softly meets Kallus’s eyes, “Do you experience that every time you use your ‘skill’?”

Kallus gives a shake of his head. “Rarely. Used to happen more often when I was younger or whenever I stressed out too much coming out of it. The last one I had was years ago.”

Those green eyes are slightly calculating, drawing Kallus in. “If you ever have another one, what would be the best way for me or someone else to help you?”

Feeling his heart just absolutely melting in his chest, Kallus swears he will fall in love with this man in every timeline. “The same thing as earlier. A hand to hold and a guide to help even my breathing.”

Zeb cards his fingers through Kallus’s hair once more. “Anything else to add? Water? Something else to drink?”

Smiling, Kallus nods. “Some water would be great, actually.”

The rebel drops his hand into Kallus’s, tugging slightly. “Speaking of which, let’s get you some before you meet back with Kanan, yeah?”

“Yeah,” Kallus rubs his thumb over one of Zeb’s knuckles, “let’s.” He gives Zeb’s hand a light tug, and Zeb turns back to him. “Would you… be willing to be with me when I speak to Kanan?”

The small amount of tension that was in Zeb’s body visibly dissipated. “Always, Sasha.”

Kallus feels tension he didn’t know he still had leave him as well. “Thank you, Garazeb.”

___

Zeb has Ezra help him make tea as Kanan and Kallus get settled.

“Where would you like me to begin, Kanan?” Kallus leans into the cushioned seating, propping his head with his hand as he does so.

“Tell me your full process of how you borrowed my lightsaber without me being alerted of your presence.”

Kallus chews on his lip for a moment as he tries to figure out his wording. “A very helpful, and often quite necessary skill to have when it comes to stealing, especially in plain sight, is blending in, being completely unnoticeable. The best way to do that tends to be at a certain level of relaxed, comfortable, quiet.” Kallus looks to Kanan, who nods for him to continue. “It took me a while to develop the ability to do this quickly, but I’ve always just focused on clearing my mind. Let my thoughts and emotions move past me without focusing on them. I focused on blending in with my surroundings. And then I was able to take things without notice. I picked up quicker and utilized it more effectively than my peers had in my youth.”

Zeb and Ezra re-enter the room, each carrying two cups of something warm and soothing. Placing himself right next to Kallus, Zeb hands a cup to Kallus, who thanks him as he relaxes against him.

After taking a few sips, Kallus continues as Ezra settles down next to Kanan. “When I was younger, I used this to steal food or clothing, or an empty room to spend the night. When I entered the academy, it was useful in training. I would silently pass my classmates, who never noticed until I was already ahead.”

Kallus observes the liquid in the cup as it swirls, the movement of it soothing him through a not-so-great memory lane. “Of course, there were the academics that I couldn’t take a shortcut on, but I did well enough. After graduating, there was… my unfortunate work with the Empire. By this point, I had mastered the technique. I was able to enter the trance in mere seconds. There were a couple years at one point where I did, however, lose touch with being able to use this ability at all. But, around the time I defected and became fulcrum, the ability came back like it had never left.”

Glancing over to Kanan, Kallus notices as the man patiently sips the beverage. His eyes catch a glimpse of Ezra intently hanging on to every word. Oh, karabast , he ventured away from the point. “But yeah, I do the little meditation and I feel like I almost dissolve. I don’t become invisible, per se, but I am far less noticeable. Unless I draw attention to myself, no one would look my way. And as long as I maintain that state of mind, I remain unnoticeable.”

Kanan nods and stays silent for a few moments. When he finally speaks, his tone is even and level. “Alex, every living being has a force signature, it’s our connection to the force, to the universe, to each other. It is through the force that I am able to sense or ‘see’ that Ezra is currently burning his tongue on the tea because he didn’t let it cool first.”

“Hey! I thought it has been long enough!”

Kallus gives a soft laugh at the joke, while Zeb hardily chuckles at said teen.

“What you described sounds very similar to a force ability called Force Stealth. Where one would meditate and then dissipate in a way, concealing their force signature… or their force sensitivity.”

At that moment, Ezra spits tea all across the table, Zeb nearly chokes, and Kallus just stares at Kanan. He blinks once. Twice. Thrice.

Laughing so hard, Kallus has to be mindful not to spill his drink. “I get it! You’re pranking me for stealing your saber,” Kallus shakes his head as he sips the last of his tea. “I get it, don’t touch things that don’t belong to me. Lesson heard. You know, Kanan, you really have poor taste in humor. I think you might need to take some lessons from Ezra. Or Chopper.”

A frown etches its way deeply onto the Jedi’s face. “Alexsandr, I’m not joking.”

Kallus just continues to laugh to himself. “If you’re not joking, then you’ve simply just gone mad. Me. Force sensitive. Ha!” Kallus moves to stand up, “I need to go find Hera, she has to hear this one. Maybe she could talk you back to your senses.”

Kanan places his hand on his arm, “Alexsandr. I’m serious.”

“As am I! Kanan, if I’m force sensitive, then Ezra really is Jabba the Hutt!”

Force Sensitive- Kallus refuses to try and wrap his head around the concept. He just can’t imagine it. Me. Kriffing hilarious.

“Sasha, maybe just take a minute to sit and think on this?”

The blond stops in his tracks to stare at his partner. “Garazeb, please. Please tell me this sounds just as insane to you as it does to me.”

“You told me never to lie to you. I’m just saying take a moment to think. Reason with yourself.”

“I need to go wash my cup.”

Kallus walks out the room to go find Hera. Stars, he needs someone sane .

Luckily, she’s in the first place he thought of.

The cockpit.

“Hera, Hera dear, I need to tell you what your other half just tried telling me. He has truly lost his mind. I think Garazeb has too.” Kallus sits in the co-pilot seat and curls his legs up to his chest, empty mug still in hand.

“Is this crazier than the time he thought you were in love with me?” Hera chuckles to herself as she pulls herself out of all the wiring underneath the dash. “Because the time when we were lovers was pretty crazy.”

“No, this is worse, I think he may be certifiably insane.” Kallus fiddles with the mug in his hands, nervous.

“Spill it then.”

“Kanan Jarrus- He thinks I’m force sensitive.” Kallus would laugh if he had any left in him.

“Now, why would he ever think that?” Hera tosses one of her tools over to her new co-pilot.

Kallus catches it with ease as he continues. “Long story short, I foolishly agreed to a- I guess I would call it a dare from Ezra- he and Zeb really are such a terrible influence when combined, you know. But,” Kallus catches another tool that’s tossed in his direction, not even looking at it as he speaks, “I accepted it, that’s on me. But it was to steal Kanan’s lightsaber, and I was just going to swipe it, show it to Bridger, then put it back where I found it. I was worried that I was making Ezra upset or frustrated because of one of the skills that I just kinda have that helps me in thievery. Took me years to master. For a few years I didn’t have it all.”

Kallus catches another tool, a heavier one and just sticks it somewhere on the chair. “And I’ve been having fun in our little game as well, and I didn’t want him to, like, I don’t know, be upset at me or something so I agreed to this stupid party trick. Taking the saber wasn’t difficult at all. And what if the three of them- Kanan, Zeb, and Ezra, are just overreacting? I mean, it’s not like I moving things with my mind or giving a wave of my hand to mindtrick stormers away or-”

“Or catching everything I throw at you without even looking?”

Kallus waves the wrench in his hand at her, “Yes! Exact-” Kallus looks in his lap, at least half of Hera’s tools piled there. “Where’s Zeb’s mug? I was supposed to go wash it… When did you hand me your entire kriffing tool box?” He looks up to see her staring at him. “What?”

“Kallus, remember how you always like how brutally honest I can be?”

If his lap weren’t weighed down with so many tools, Kallus would squirm in his seat. “Yes…”

“And do I have your consent to be 100% brutally honest with you right now?” Hera leans forward to rest her elbows on her knees.

“Why do I feel like I’m not going to like your honesty this one time?”

“Because our other halves aren’t the ones who are being irrational.”

Kallus squints wearily at his friend. “...Continue.”

“I’ve known you’ve been force sensitive since that time you saved me when you were still operating as fulcrum.” And without another word, another glance, another second, Hera stands and quickly walks out the cockpit.

“What!?” Kallus goes to stand to chase her because she can’t just drop that and kriffing leave! But when he goes to move, some of the tool clatter onto the floor, the ruckus causing him to flinch.” Hera? Hera! You can’t just-” Kallus looks at the closed door and down at the tools. Sighing, he gathers what’s left of the tools from his lap into one arm and kneels down to start organizing them back into their box.

He carefully finds the home for each and every item. And he has a few moments to himself as he does this.

Force stealth.

That would explain why Kanan didn’t sense him when Kallus just walked up behind him and took the saber hilt. And if he’s been subconsciously masking his force sensitivity, it would make sense that he never caught the attention of an inquisitor. Would that also explain how quickly his leg healed? Has there been other things that he simply just didn’t take note of?

Is… Is he really force sensitive? Could he be? This… feels insane.

Finishing organizing the tools, Kallus sighs as he drags his hand through his hair. He looks around the cockpit. “Where’s Zeb’s cup.”

Just as he stands, the door opens back to reveal Hera, Zeb, and Zeb’s cup in Hera’s hands.

She tosses the cup toward him and he catches it with ease. “Better?”

Kallus nods as he cradles the cup. “Thank you for talking to me, Hera.” Shifting his eyes up to Zeb, Kallus takes a tentative step toward him. “Garazeb, I-”

Zeb pauses Kallus before he has the chance to apologize. He pushes Kallus’s hair out of his face and places a kiss on his forehead. “I think it’s your turn to make dinner tonight, Sasha.”

Brushing their cheeks together, Kallus hums. “I think you’re right, Garazeb.” He pulls back and looks between the two rebels. “I don’t have to train as a Jedi, do I?”

The two laugh.

“No, Alex, you don’t have to train as a Jedi.”

Kallus lets out a breath he wasn’t aware he was holding. “Thank the stars. I just finished working through my workaholism. If I were to add something major to my routine, I wouldn’t be able to guarantee I’d won't relapse.”

“I did just speak to Kanan,” Hera shakes her head as she crosses her arms, “he didn't tell you, but he's envious that you've mastered Force Stealth.”

“Is he more or less envious when we were lovers?”

Zeb laughs as he gives a soft punch to Kallus’s shoulder.

“Lover boy, lover boy.”  Hera rolls her eyes.

Notes:

Hopefully, I'll have my other fic for day I finished before the end of the day and posted. I want to have day V finished and posted on schedule, but I feel that that one may have less of chance of happening because it is going to be multiple chapters.

And y'all. I cannot express enough how much I love the concept of, once Hera comes to trust and get to know Kallus, that the two act so much like siblings. Or people think they're dating and they're both like "no. absolutely not." Also Kallus being an excellent eavesdropper because of spy work, him on the rebel base hearing all the tea, Hera telling him to share it all with her. I cannot express how badly I want to see more of this. I need their friendship so bad-

Anyway, let us know what you thought.

Also a reminder for those partaking in festival challenges to comment on someone's post! [Doesn't have to be this one lmao, just anyone who has created something or made a post.]
