Dennis's breath hitches, his blood runs cold. All he hears is a low ringing as the world narrows and narrows to the phone in Lena’s hand. Code Yellow. Code Yellow. Code Yellow.

    Disaster Event.

    At the riverfront.

    Robby.

Or, Mateo did say there would be an inevitable crash out on the Fourth of July.

Trinity is damn certain Dennis’s new boyfriend is a piece of work and a half, and is ready to shove her foot so far up his ass for her roommate. Little does she know how far off from the truth she is.

“—his vitals are stable. BP…” Mohan trails off, staring at the screen behind him.

“What?” Dennis asks, glancing at the monitor. His blood pressure looks fine, a bit elevated but understandable from the tail end of adrenaline following his fall. And other than that, he’s… Oh. He frowns at his BPM of 114. That’s… unusually high for him.

Mohan looks back at Robby. “I swear his BP has been in the normal range with his pulse at eighty-five during most of my assessment.”

    “Order a CT,” Robby says.

    “I don’t need…”

He trails off when he gives Whitaker a stern look that makes his stomach flip. Yessir.

He risks a glance at his monitor, seeing the number rise again, and oh. Oh. Oh no.

    -:-:-:-:-:-

Or, Dennis gets injured, and his heartbeat reveals exactly how he feels about Dr. Robby.

    Summary

If Dennis had to start dying in front of anyone, Trinity Santos would be one of his top choices because he knew she would do practically anything to keep him alive. Sure, a lot of those things were probably crazy and would earn her a lecture from Robby or Abbot or whoever was the attending when they inevitably arrived at the Pitt, but at least Dennis would live to tell the tale.

Dennis pictured his airway closing and Trinity performing a crike on him on the floor of their apartment with the sharp little paring knife she used for slicing fruit. It’s exactly the kind of insane thing she’d manage to pull off.

Since it was after seven, Abbot would probably be in charge of the ER and when they arrived he’d probably say something like, “Doctor Santos, you know that interns aren’t supposed to perform unassisted crikes. But that was super cool.” Or he’d probably never say super cool but Dennis was too out of it to conjure a good Abbott impression and that seemed close enough to the lecture Trinity’d received after the REBOA incident.

    Summary

“Hey, Doctor Abbot.” Dennis said, trying to keep his voice steady. “Can I speak with you about something before you go?”
Jack turned toward him immediately, following him back to the break room. “Everything okay?”
“I… don’t know.” He hesitated. “I’m concerned. About Robby.”
Something flickered across Jack’s face. For a moment, it was unmistakably grave, but just as quickly, he smoothed it over. “Why do you say that?”

Or, Dennis sounds the alarm, and Robby’s 3-month sabbatical turns into a 2-month psychiatric hold.
