Chapter 1: Child Sighted
Chapter Text
Niki "The Nice" didn't want anyone else to go through this horror. She was already upset when they introduced Ranboo as "The Hero", and had... eventually gotten used to his addition to the loops. She thought herself lucky for being so overlooked by Them that they hadn't realized she Remembered.
Niki woke up on the carousel like usual, but there was something decidedly unusual here, that made her heart drop.
There was a child chained to the carousel.
Like Ranboo, they had a mask, fortunately not a metal, mechanical one. Ranboo is controlled by his, he may be young, but at least Showfall isn't cruel enough to control a child. It was soft, a brick red color, with a fanged smile stitched on it. their head was mostly obscured by an oversized hoodie, but she could see floppy brown hair spilling out from the tops and sides. The hoodie itself was a ratty maroon, with something printed on it, but it was too worn away to tell what. Their skin contrasted harshly against the dark metal of the handcuffs locking them to the carousel, a pasty white shade that made them look ill.
Why would They do this? Where did they get a child? They didn't look to be older than 18, and could even be 12 at the youngest with how small and skinny they are.
There were some mercies she supposed, she couldn't see any injuries, (though the hoodie could be hiding things) and they didn't seem to be forcibly unconscious, just passed out. Hopefully asleep from exhaustion and not pain or hunger. Who knows what They would do to a kid, with the things they've already done to her, to Ranboo, to the rest of the cast.
As expected, nobody else on the carousel reacted oddly to the teen, they didn't Remember like she did, didn't realize that there was something horribly wrong and fucked up.
Instead, they were busy screaming for help like usual. Oh, she should probably join in, just to make sure They aren’t suspicious, especially because the cameras are focused, as the Hero has joined them.
“HEY HEY HEY MAN LET ME OUT OF HERE!”
“DO SOMETHING DAMNIT!!”
The cacophony of screeches woke the child, who jerked awake with a clang, and whipped their head around franticly. From before, Niki remembers a saying along the lines of “the eyes are the window to the soul,” and for the most part, she agrees. She sees all of the cast through their eyes, their love, their fear, their grief. For the first time, she can see the newest, youngest, member of the cast’s eyes. Icey blue, and filled with sheer terror, panicking to the verge of passing out. Niki was about to try and calm them down, though it would anger the Audience to see the fun die out so quickly, she could take it if it meant that the kid was okay. They didn’t deserve this.
Luckily for her, the child’s frantic movements lead them to make eye contact with one of the people next to them- well, “person” was a rough term when the thing next to them was Frank, the plastic skeleton that Sneegsnag is oddly attached to. They stopped moving instantly, eyebrows furrowed, squinting at Frank in disbelief.
Niki could relate, everyone did go a little bit mad in here, but Frank was one of the oddities that was easier to think about.
Chittering and clangs told her that the Puzzlemaster and his rats had made their awkward entrance.
The Puzzlemaster grinned under his grotesquely disfigured face- oh, it seems he never used the flimsy plastic mask in this rerun.
“Now now, I’m aware that all of you likely want to live! Lucky for you, you will! But it is Ranboo’s choice who shall live and who shall die.”
Predictably, Austin started to ramble about his obviously very real wife and kids, starting the fearful chatter again. Ranboo looked traumatized, more than they already were. The bits that Niki had learned from earlier runs made her glad Ranboo never Remembered, he would have broken by now. It was a mercy that Niki was such an insignificant side character that she never had to see as much as he did.
“Shall we start with the life stories then? See who you’ll decide has a sob story worthy to keep living?”
The rats spun the wheel.
The child still looked scared.
God, this kid better not be a main character, they can’t go through all of this.

Chapter Text
Niki was so focused on the child after she pleaded her own case, that she forgot to pay attention to the rest of the introductions, until it was the kid's turn.
When spun to face the camera and with the spotlight on them, she could now see that the design printed on their hoodie was a faded smiley face, and that they had deep bruises under their eyes.
"Now, a random teenager. What do you have to say to the Hero of the story? What is your plead for life?"
The Puzzlemaster's smile made her feel sick about the joy he took in his games.
The kid didn't say a word, they just blankly stared at the camera, wearily looking at everyone in the room, before they slumped, hiding their face under the hair protruding from their hoodie.
"Wise words, teenager! MOVING ON!"
The Puzzlemaster's words melted into muffled noise again, all her focus on examining the kid. Why didn't they talk? How were they here?
Not a single other person looked concerned that there was a literal child trapped with them. Why? Except for maybe Frank. Frank's face is hard to read.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you saw it, Vinny and Ethan ended up being picked to go first, aka: the first two to die. Niki had been one of the first people accompanying the Hero before, and she died every single time. She knew it was Their fault, but she couldn't shake the feeling that Ranboo was a magnet for tragedy.
Like every time before when she wasn’t one of the ones who were picked first, she felt a sudden pinch in her neck and then faded away into sleep.
-------------
When Niki awoke, it was to being shoved into a blank hallway, behind the bars of a cage.
Oh, I guess it’s my turn. Perhaps I can be able to talk to the kid if they’re here? I hope they aren't though.
To her relief, she looked unharmed for now, and it seemed she had to wait here for Ranboo to save her after he finished whatever sacrificial game he was in with the others from the carousel right now.
Nothing much to do other than count the cracks in the walls, she guessed.
Distantly, she heard rumbling, and dust sifted from the broken ceiling tiles as prerecorded cheering echoed from further away. The Hero must have finished the game. Uneven footsteps pounded on the concrete floor until Ranboo and the teen skidded around the corner, nearly crashing into the bars of her cage.
“Oh! Hi! Um… didn’t see you there?”
If Niki could see his mouth, she was sure they would’ve had a sheepish grin. Alas, he had the Hero’s facemask, and could only see his awkwardness in their eyes. Ranboo fumbled with the lock on the door, snapping it off and opening it to let her out. The kid was eyeing her with suspicion, and looked shaken.
Niki turned to the Hero,
“Who’s died?”
He sighed,
“Ethan, Austin, Sneeg, Frank, and Vinny.”
“Shit.”
“Yeah…”
Niki turned to the teen, hoping to comfort them, she didn’t know how long they’d been with Ranboo in the games, how much death they’ve already seen. The teen had already continued stiffly walking through the corridor, following the arrows smeared on the walls. Ranboo trailed after them not too long after, leaving Niki to catch up.
She smiled softly at the kid.
“Hey! Are you okay? I never learned your name. I’m Niki!”
Their eyes briefly flicked to meet hers, before they flinched and looked away just as quickly, and gave a stiff nod.
“Not much of a talker? That’s alright.”
The Hero coughed a bit, interrupting,
“Er, yeah, they haven’t said a single thing, I don’t know their name, they joined a few games ago.”
They shrugged awkwardly, glancing at the kid and then looking at his feet instead.
The rest of the walk was… awkward. Eventually they happened upon a door marked with arrows, and when entering it, they were in the candy room, rat chittering coming from a closed door.
Well, I know what we’re playing next then.
Notes:
Shorter chapter this time around, my hands are tired and I should take a break from writing kshdbfds
