Work Text:
Stiles froze as he was met with the sight of a very tall, very muscular, very attractive man in jeans and a sweaty tank top chopping wood in the McCall’s backyard. You see he hadn’t intended to go through the back entrance when, no pun intended, of the house but both the front door and Scott’s window were locked. That had never happened before. He hadn’t brought the key he made without Melissa and Scott’s knowledge to the McCall house specifically because that had never happened before.
Not that he was complaining of course, this turn of events was extremely favorable.
“Derek!” The voice of his best friend broke him out of his bout of hotness induced hypnosis enough to wipe the drool off of his chin. “Mom asked if you could help dig the hole for the fire pit too when you’re done with that.” Dear lord, if he witnessed that as well this man may very well kill him.
“Sure but, who’s the kid that’s been staring at me for the past five minutes.” The voice wasn’t what he was expecting -less gruff, not as deep as he would’ve thought- but it was perfect nonetheless. He hung on every word the man said until he actually registered what was said and then proceeded to choke on his own saliva.
He heard a loud groan from wherever Scott was poking his head out of the house.
“Stiles, get inside.”
“The hell is a Stiles?” Hot wood chopping guy said, all Stiles’ awestruck brain could come up with in response was the word hi and a dopey smile.
“Stiles!” He waved dumbly at Derek as he moved over to Scott. He tried not to swoon when the man smirked a little and waved back.
“Dude, who is that guy?” he asked when the sliding glass door to the backyard was closed.
“He’s my cousin.”
“One, why didn’t you tell me you have a cousin? Two, why didn’t you tell me you had a hot cousin?”
“Okay first off, I didn’t know. Second, gross. And third, I technically have four, including Derek, and from a totally objective standpoint they are all rather attractive. It’s weird.”
“I mean, to be fair you and Mama McCall are pretty good looking yourselves,” Stiles told him. “You’re dad’s pretty hot too, too bad he’s a total jackass though.”
“Dude, again, gross.” Stiles just shrugged, Scott has been his best friend since kindergarten he should be used to this by now.
“So what’s the story with the surprise cousins?” he asked, mind having already moved on.
“Apparently mom has a brother. They had some big falling out around the time mom got married to my dad. Anyway, his wife found out about the fact that he had a sister a little while ago and she’s really big on family and togetherness or whatever and eventually tracked us down. They all basically just showed up on our doorstep a couple days ago.”
That explains why he wasn’t aware until now. Every summer he and his dad go to Poland for about a month to visit his maternal grandparents. They’re pretty anti technology so not only do they have to keep their phones in their room but they don’t have any wifi to access and the service is shit so they can’t keep in touch with everyone back in Beacon Hills. He just got back from the trip last night which is why he had come over to Scott’s.
“And lumberjack out there, what’s his story?” He needed as much information as he could get.
“Derek? I don’t know, mom’s kind of been using him to get things done around the house, usually just because he offers. Other than that he’s kind of just silent and broody all the time. Laura says he has a resting murder face.”
“Laura?”
“Oldest of the Hale siblings. Derek’s next, then Cora who’s our age, and then Sebastian who’s 15.”
“Hale siblings? Not Delgado?”
“No, Thomas -mom’s brother- took his wife’s last name.”
“Progressive, nice. I like it.” He would totally take Derek’s last name, or maybe hyphenate instead. “So if I casually slipped into conversation with Derek that I’m of legal age, how would that be perceived?” Scott sighed at the question.
“I don’t know, man. I told you he’s not exactly a talker. When he said you were here was literally the longest time he’s spoken to me in the past week.”
“So… You’re saying I bring out the best in him.” Scott groaned for the second time in less than ten minutes.
BREAK
Stiles yawned as he made his way to the bathroom. After their talk about Derek and his family Scott had basically forced him to change the subject through video games. He probably shouldn’t be as tired as he is just from an hour of playing video games but he and his dad got back late last night and he hadn’t quite gotten over the jet lag yet.
The yawn was long and rather strong so he didn’t register the person in front of him until he ran into them and their very solid, very muscular chest. Opening his eyes and looking up gave him a view of a very handsome face with a chiseled jaw, stubble, kaleidoscope-like eyes, and dark ebony locks -all of which made him gulp due to the several emotions that face made him. There was also an amused, yet devastating smirk on Derek’s face.
“Stiles.”
“D-Derek.”
“Where are you off to?”
“Uh, the bathroom.”
“Mind if I join you?”
“Wouldn’t that be weird, you being in there while I pee.” Derek raised an eyebrow at him. “Oh… Oh! Um, yeah. Totally. That sounds great, you and me, together, in a private place. Together. Doing stuff… Together.”
“Stiles.”
“Yeah?”
“Shut up.”
“O-” He was cut off by lips pressing against his own before he was slowly directed to the bathroom.
This man really was going to be the death of him.
BREAK
“Hello Stiles.” He jumped at the voice. “Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“You’re good Mama McCall.”
“If you say so,” she told him with a fond smile. “Anyway, I was wondering if you’ve seen Derek. He asked for something to do after he was done with everything for the firepit later and I was hoping he could clean the gutters. I keep asking Scott but he always forgets.” Stiles didn’t bother hiding his laugh at the air quotes Melissa used when she said “forgets”. Scott was okay about doing his chores, usually, but he always avoided the gutters due to an irrational fear of ladders (something Stiles holds shamelessly over his head constantly).
“Derek, no. Have not seen him at all. Better yet, who’s Derek? I don’t know any Derek’s,” Stiles said in a panic.
“Stiles, are you all right?”
“Oh, yeah, I’m good. Totes ma-gotes. It’s all chill here.”
It’s totally not like he didn’t just have a hot older man go down on him in the bathroom -the first time he had ever received a blow job in general- who had made him come so hard that he was pretty sure his brain had been sucked out through his dick. The guy didn’t even ask for anything in return -which he totally would have given Derek a blow job in return even if he had no experience doing so- just kissed him deeply when Stiles had said something about it and left with a small smile on his face.
“Okay then.”
“Yep, bye-bye now.” He quickly walked to Scott’s room to avoid any more questions. Though that hope was dashed as soon as he walked back into the bedroom.
“Dude what took you so long, you were gone for at least thirty minutes.” Wow, he lasted a lot longer than he thought he had.
“Um, someone was in the bathroom and then I got distracted by something on my phone,” he explained, really hoping Scott didn’t notice his phone laying on the floor next to the bed.
“Oh, okay.” He let out a relieved breath.
He didn’t know if Derek was okay with anyone knowing about what had transpired between them, even if it killed him a little not to tell his best friend what just happened. Stiles also really wanted it to happen again, maybe after they go somewhere nice and talk a little. He knows that probably won’t happen but Derek seems like he could be a good person and he’ll take him any way he can get him, but Stiles is a hopeless romantic. It doesn’t help that this is the first time anyone has shown any real interest in him and not what he may be able to do for them, no matter the context.
He could always talk to Lydia about all this, though she’d probably invite Allison along. While he and Allison were still friends he tried his best to keep her separate from Scott since their break up last year. Maybe he could go to Isaac, the guy would probably just make fun of him the whole time, but he could give good advice on occasion. Though he would definitely contact Lydia so he should probably just call all of them for a night out and get it over with.
BREAK
Stiles once again froze at the sight of Derek, but instead of chopping wood this time he was chopping vegetables. Not only was he strong but he could cook and made it at least somewhat healthy, this man was perfect. He noticed Derek lick his lips in concentration and flushed at the memory it brought up.
“You’re staring again.”
“I-I… It’s not my fault,” he defended.
“Why were you staring, then?”
“You’re distracting.”
“Really now.” Derek turned his head and gave Stiles one of those infuriating smirks of his. “And what exactly about me do you find so distracting ?”
“Well you know,” Stiles gestured over at the older man, his blush becoming deeper as he refused to meet Derek’s eyes.
“You just gestured to all of me,” he said with a chuckle. Stiles just shrugged, making Derek laugh again. “Look you’re cute, and I like you, but for now let’s just keep this between us. Like friends with secret benefits.”
“Oh. Okay.” He gave a smile that he hoped didn’t seem fake. “I’ll, uh, leave you to it.”
He didn’t know why hearing Derek say that hurt so much, he knew this was going to happen. He wasn’t the guy people liked, despite Derek’s apparently odd taste in looks, and he definitely wasn’t the guy people liked enough to have an actual relationship with. And it’s not like they had spent more than an hour or two together, he doesn’t know Derek enough to justify being this upset.
“Stiles, wait-”
“No, it’s fine, just friends. I get it. Besides, we only just met, you don’t owe me anything.”
He definitely needed a night out with Lydia and Isaac, and possibly Allison. She was much better at the whole comfort thing then the other two. Maybe he could convince Lydia to get him a fake I.D, too, so he could drown his sorrows in some form of alcohol.
BREAK
“I just don’t get the problem,” Isaac told him. “A hot guy went down on you, didn’t even ask your inexperienced ass to reciprocate, and stated that he’d be willing to do it again with no strings attached.”
“Of course you don’t see the issue,” Lydia said as she sipped her appletini. “You’re a man whore. Your single serious relationship was with Danny and that only lasted four months.”
“Yeah,” Allison agreed. “Stiles needs feelings. If not he probably wouldn’t be as inexperienced as you say he is.” It’s true, he had gotten at least one offer to hook up everytime they went out to Jungle or Sinema, but it was kind of weird to have a random stranger come up to him for sex. At least with Derek he had gotten some basic information from Scott.
“Insult me all you want,” Isaac shrugged, “at least I’m going to get laid tonight. And many other nights.”
“Derek, is more than just a piece of ass, Isaac,” Stiles whined, staring longingly into his glass of Coke-a-Cola (Lydia refused his request for a fake I.D.).
“You’ve literally only known the guy for a day. How are you so into him?”
“The kiss,” Stiles mumbled.
“Kiss?” Lydia asked.
“After what happened, when I asked Derek if he wanted me to get him off too, he just kissed me and gave me this smile before walking out of the bathroom. But it wasn’t just a kiss, there was emotion behind it. I could tell.”
“Yeah because you’ve been kissed so many times,” Isaac snorted.
“I’ve been kissed enough to tell when a kiss is just that and when it means something.”
“It’s okay Stiles,” Allison consoled. “Sometimes you just know when there could be something great between you and someone else. Even if the other person doesn’t see it.”
“Still sucks.”
“Yeah, it does, but you could always just forget all your basic principles and find someone to hook up with.” Stiles just gave Lydia a halfhearted glare.
“Well, you guys are bumming me out,” Isaac said with a groan as he got out of his seat. “There are two people over in the corner who are giving me eyes so I’m going to go and mingle.”
“Asshole,” he muttered as Isaac joined two very attractive people.
“You know I was serious about my suggestion,” Lydia chimed. “You had barely even interacted with Derek before you interacted with him. Why was he so different when you’ve turned down everyone else.”
“I don’t know.”
“Maybe you’re soulmates,” Allison jokes.
“Har, har.”
“I mean, it’s not the most outlandish theory we’ve ever come up with.”
“Soulmates don’t exist,” Lydia told Allison.
“Oh please, you’re just saying that because yours is too afraid to ask you out.”
“Yeah, Parrish is a wimp,” Stiles muttered.
“He’s a cop,” Lydia defended. “He works with your father.”
“And he’s an All American Boy styled wimp.”
“Okay, stop trying to get this conversation focused on me and not you, Stiles.” He shrugged, at least he tried. “Bottom line is that soulmates don’t exist but clearly there’s some kind of chemistry between you and this Derek guy, or else you wouldn’t have let him go down on you in the bathroom of your best friend’s house.”
“Maybe.”
“I’m still on the soulmate thing,” Allison said before ordering another drink.
“Why do you guys get to drink and I don’t?”
“We need a designated driver and our families aren’t the ones with a pattern of drinking issues when it comes to stressful or depressing situations relating to one’s self.”
“The fuck Lydia?”
“I’m drunk.” It was always so hard to tell when Lydia was actually drunk, she was always so calm about it, she was also completely and utterly honest as well as a total bitch. It was like dealing with
“Anyway,” she continued, “we should meet this Derek, suss him out ourselves and see what his deal is.”
“Oh, yes,” Allison agreed eagerly. “I wanna see if he’s really that hot or if you’re exaggerating because you like him so much.”
Stiles was offended, there was no exaggerating the hotness of Derek Hale. The man was a veritable Greek Adonis, hell he could be Eros himself. Granted he was a bit of a dick -to him at least, he had been super nice in all other aspects except for what happened in the kitchen- but he was still an extremely attractive person and that should not be questioned.
“How about no,” Stiles told them.
“Please, you already know that even without your say so we’ll just show up randomly at Scott’s house sometime in the next few days,” Lydia shrugged.
“Can we just go now?” Stiles whined.
“What about Isaac?” Allison asked with a frown.
“Please, he left two minutes after he went over to that corner,” Lydia told them.
“God, we’re going to be hearing about him having a threesome for months,” Stiles groaned. Sometimes he forgot why he and Isaac were friends.
BREAK
Stiles couldn’t help the groan he let out at the sight of not only Lydia and Allison at the door, but Isaac too. He already knew he was going to have to deal with Lydia’s invasive questions and Allison’s unrealistic optimism, but now he was going to have to deal with Isaac constantly hitting on Derek and possibly all the other Hale siblings as they were here too.
“Hello to you too, Stiles,” Lydia greeted with a roll of her eyes.
“Why’d you have to bring him,” he whined. “I already have to avoid Derek, I don’t want to have to stop coming over altogether.”
“Hey!” Isaac exclaimed.
“What? We told you last night you’re a man whore.”
“Who says this Derek is even hot enough to warrant my attention.” Stiles scoffed, partly because once again his friend insulted Derek’s looks yet again and partly because it was Isaac and he would hit on a tree if his ego didn’t demand he only actively interact with those he deemed on his level when it came to flirting.
“Who’s at the door?” The voice made Stiles cringe, of course Derek had to come at the worst possible moment.
“Damn Stilinski,” he heard Lydia whisper not so subtly.
“Well, hello,” Isaac greeted as he pushed Stiles out of the way and offered a hand to Derek. “I’m Isaac Lahey, you are.”
“Derek,” the man answered with a glare, not shaking the proffered hand and instead choosing to cross his arms over his chest. Stiles tried not to focus on how the action made the muscles on Derek’s arms seem even larger.
“We figured,” Lydia chimed. “I’m Lydia Martin and this is Allison.” Derek did shake their hands and Stiles snickered slightly at the offended look that crossed Isaac’s face.
“Let’s move this to the living room,” Stiles suggested. “Might as well meet everyone else. Even if there are no adults to supervise.”
“What about me?” Stiles did his best to ignore the adorable pout Derek was sporting. “Or Laura?”
“Lydia is the only person here that can qualify as an adult, both legally and mentally speaking.”
“As always,” she confirmed with a flip of her hair.
“How are they all hot,” Isaac said in a flabbergasted mutter when they finally got to the living room.
“Not so bad yourself, pretty boy,” Cora leered, making Isaac -a person Stiles believed to have no shame whatsoever- blush before he sat down in the arm chair across from where Cora was sitting.
Allison and Lydia gave a collective roll of their eyes before moving to sit with Sebastian on the sofa. Everyone cooed a little at the flush that appeared on the fifteen-year-old’s face in response to him now sitting between two very pretty girls. Stiles even walked over and ruffled the kid’s hair before sitting on the arm of the couch next to Lydia.
“So why are you guys here right now?” Stiles asked.
“You know why,” Lydia told him.
“Yes and it has nothing to do with the fact that Scott is at work right now?” He saw Allison duck her head slightly and start playing with her hands.
“Why would that have anything to do with them being over right now?” Laura asked.
“Allison is his ex.”
“Oh- Oh .”
“Yep,” he confirmed. He had attempted to mend fences several times between the two former lovers around the time they had broken up, often with Lydia’s help, but Scott was a very stubborn person and saw Allison leaving him as a betrayal and would likely never see it as anything but that.
“This was the ideal time to come and meet the mysterious Hale siblings. After everything Stiles said about you, well one of you,” he didn’t miss the looks that both him and Derek received from the room at large, “we had to come and see you for ourselves.”
“Well we sadly haven’t heard much about you guys,” Cora says in completely fake disappointment. “For some reason everytime Derek comes into the room at the same time Stiles is hanging out with us something comes up and he has to leave.” Again the looks directed at them were not unnoticed and made both men sink into their seats a little.
“That really is strange,” Allison said, unnecessarily carrying on the bit. “Especially since, as far as I know, Stiles has spent nearly all his time here since he met you guys.”
“Oh my god!” Stiles yelled, wanting this to end now before it got even worse. “Derek, Scott’s room, now, before I kill everyone here.” The man in question didn’t say anything in response, instead choosing to rush after Stiles as the younger man rushed up the stairs. If a mock sound of a whip came from someone else in the room (Cora) then he elected to ignore it.
When he got to the room Stiles plopped down onto Scott’s bed with his arm crossed and looking everywhere but at Derek, who just closed the door behind him and stood there awkwardly while kicking lightly at the carpet.
“I’m sorry,” Derek started, no longer being able to stand the silence that he knew, even with his limited time spent with Stiles, was not normal for the teen.
“I told you when it happened, it’s fine,” he reiterated. “You want no strings attached and I’m just not made for that, so it’s better it ended before anything really even started.”
“But that’s not what I meant when I said that.” Stiles scoffed.
“You legit said secret friends with benefits.” Derek cringed at hearing that.
“Look,” he said before moving to sit down on the bed as well, “I’m not good with words. When I said that I really only meant the secret part. Even then I only wanted to keep it, us, a secret because everyone was, and is, still getting used to the whole new family thing.”
“Okay, I guess I can get that,” Stiles told him, “but why use the term ‘friends with benefits’ of all things?”
“You’re nineteen,” Derek shrugged. “As far as I am aware most nineteen-year-olds are usually not looking for a serious relationship unless they are already in one. Your friend Isaac literally started hitting on me as soon as he saw me.”
“Well that’s different,” Stiles said. “Isaac is a man whore, he hits on everything that moves.” He barely managed to hide a smile at the laugh Derek let out.
“Look how about we start over,” the older man suggested. “Cause I do like you, and I really do think you’re cute.”
“I guess you’re not so bad yourself,” Stiles noted.
“I thought everything about me was distracting,” Derek said with a smirk.
“Nah, I just said that to make you feel better about yourself.”
“Oh, really?” Stiles nodded. “Then how about I show you how distracting I really am?” Stiles barely had time to respond before he was descended upon. Derek had learned from last time apparently.
About ten minutes later Scott walked into the room mid-rant over Allison being there. Not even a second after that he ran out of the room screaming “My eyes, my eyes!”
