Chapter Text
His auburn hair blowing in the wind, the glimmer in his eyes. Eddie was gorgeous, something Howdy had always known. His green hand reached out, only to never feel his love's touch. This was a reoccurring dream, one that always gave him an ache in the heart.
Howdy flinched awake and gripped the bed sheets, gasping for air. The sky was pitch black full of stars. The caterpillar started to feel stream down his face, shaking and whimpering.
He needed to get over him, he needed to let go; No, he would never do that. Eddie had been married for two years.
---
It was a bright morning with singing birds, a perfect day for the store to be open and people to come visit him. Soon who came bursting through the door was none other than Mister Wally Darling who kept his eyes strictly on the red delicious apples.
"Morning Howdy, say; these apples are overpriced. How about I just take some and you would have no worries about where they go?" Wally asked picking one up.
"Wally, everything in my store is practically already free. In return for jokes and stories you can get anything from the store. Overpriced, you say?"
"Yep." The yellow puppet had the audacity to say.
"I will politely ask you to leave." Howdy motioned his index finger towards the door.
"Okay.. But I will take this for the road." He snatched an apple and ran for the hills.
The caterpillar rubbed his temples and let out a sigh. He literally did not get paid enough to deal with this, still it was a good day like any other.
Soon coming through the door was the only married couple in the neighborhood, Frank and Eddie. He gave a kind smile towards them as Eddie smiled back, giddiness filled him up to the brim.
"What can I get for the happy couple?" Howdy asked checking his posture.
"We just came to visit, actually." Frank corrected, then to ask a question: "How are you doing?"
"I am great, such a lovely day to be here and see everybody." He responded. "Just perfect."
"That's great! Say, you have been working really hard lately.. Why don't you hang out with us some time?" The mailman shone through with a burst of energy. "It's been too long since when it was us three, what happened?"
You got married. No, they deserve happiness together, it wasn't Howdy's place to feel hurt by their love.
"That doesn't sound so bad, why not? I miss seeing my old pals." Howdy then jumped over the counter and gave them both hugs. Hugs which Frank tried to squirm out of.
"How about tomorrow? 7?" The Gray puppet asked and started to write it down.
"That sounds amazing, I will let everyone know in advance that The Bugdega will be closed." He replied with an even wider smile.
"Great! We will see you then." Eddie clapped his hands together quickly and soon the couple strolled off.
