Work Text:

"So... what film are you making me watch tonight, Shepherd?"

A wide grin spread across Shepherd's face as he held up a very battered DVD. "Lone Ranger! I got like... a trilogy of 'em. This's some of my favourite stuff, s'like a... cowboy movie, but way cooler. Promise it's gonna be good."

"Cowboy... ah, like the film last week. The bad ugly good one?"

"... The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Yeah. This'll be much easier t'watch. Woulda done these ones first, but I couldn't find my old discs. Ya ready?"

"One moment."

If there was one thing you could say about Sarnax, Shepherd had discovered, it was that he liked a routine. Ever since he had been introduced to the concept of 'movie night', he had done a great deal of preparation to enjoy each film to the fullest.

So, Shepherd sat and waited while his friend turned his phone to silent, located his favourite drink cup, got the small side table to the side of the couch set up with his drinks and snacks, unfolded his blanket over the couch to bundle himself in... and before he could even ask, a sharp whistle from Shepherd called a thundering canine downstairs to cannonball onto the couch, flopping next to his favourite person in the whole world.

"...-now- are ya ready?"

"Yes. You may proceed."

Rolling his eyes, Shepherd pressed play and hit the lights. "Alright... here we go. Justice, I swear, if you fart this time, I'm makin' ya sleep in the barn." He collapsed onto the worn couch, sitting close enough that he could steal a small fraction of the massive blanket to drape over his shoulders.

"...oh right, Doc said he's gonna be gettin' in pretty late tonight, jus' so ya don't get startled or nuthin'."

A small nod was the only response he received, already engrossed fully in the movie. Shepherd leaned back, an arm draped over the back of the couch, and settled in for movie night.

Several hours later....

"Silas? Could really use your help unloadin'... sorry, I know it's movie night, but you can pause for a few minutes."

Silence was his only answer. Frowning, Thomas made his way farther inside the house. He couldn't hear anything from downstairs..

"...boys? Y'all are still here, I see your shoes at the door. C'mon, now. At least answer me."

Still silence. Groaning at every step, Thomas slowly made his way downstairs, grumbling the entire time.

"Swear t'god, Silas, ya better not be teachin' that boy to ignore me too, cuz I'll whoop both of..."

Peeking around the door, the older man immediately snapped his mouth shut, a small grin forming instead.

Curled up on the couch, both bundled in the blanket, Shepherd and Sarnax slept peacefully. Both of Shepherd's arms were around the smaller man, who had leaned forward to rest against his chest. Pressed up against Sarnax's back, an upside-down Justice snored away.

Creeping forward, Thomas quietly turned the tv off before slowly creeping his way upstairs, the small grin on his face growing a bit wider.

"...huh. Well... maybe I'll leave that unloadin' for t'morrow. G'night, boys."
