There were a great many things he had learned from the good Doctor while he was growing up, and even more when he had become an adult. Many life skills shared, a lot of knowledge, and even some likes and dislikes.
One particular nugget of wisdom had never really come up in any conversations until...

"...Mr Morgan, what is wrong with your coffee?"
"...uhh..?" Shepherd tilted his cup, peering into the depths. "...nothin' I can see...?"
"Nothing?" Clayton looked incredulous, reaching over to snag the cup, swirling it around. "This... has the same viscosity as pudding, Mr Morgan! Are you sure it hasn't spoiled?"
"Oh, that! Nah, it's brewed special. Me n' the Doc like it real strong, so he does this thing where he uses older coffee to brew new coffee."
"That's triple brewing. Yes, I've heard of that."
"Yeah, but we keep goin' 'til we run out of the bag. Lasts for a good day or so, I keep a thermos in my bag here an' just refill my cup. Want t' try?"
Clayton turned pale at the sight of the battered thermos Shepherd pulled out of his bag and cracked open.
"I... believe I'll be just fine with my own. Thank you, Mr M- DEAR GODS!" Coughing, Clayton turned his head away as the intense coffee smell filled his nostrils. It was only a moment before he couldn't handle it anymore, grabbing his bag and retreating with multiple choked-out apologies to his classmate.
Shepherd shrugged, sipping his coffee and sitting back in his chair. A small grin crossed his lips.
"An' that's why I never have t' share my drinks."
