Summary
Staying alert and combat-ready was Pangi's default state, so it didn't surprise him when he noticed the enemy scout squatting by the forest path first, without being spotted himself. It did help that the guy was whistling absent-mindedly. Not the wisest decision on this side of the battlefront.

Branzy thinks of himself as a normal guy, all things considered. Maybe a little eccentric, a little strategically reckless, sure, but normal.
And he's got a boyfriend who isn’t normal, who owns too many properties to be considered "grounded" and moves through the world a touch too intensely for most people to feel comfortable.
Branzy is relatively ordinary and Clown isn’t, and they love each other. It isn't a problem until it is. Maybe Branzy should've paid more attention to that.
