When the seven Miraculous were forged, the entities that gave them power paired up into groups. Transmission and Emotion found a connection with one another when they made the Moth and the Peacock. Illusion and Protection found that their shared use of defense made a partnership easy. Subjugation (or, as the entities actually call her, Guidance), flitted between the pairs as she saw fit.
It was Creation and Destruction that, for as long as anyone could remember, were at odds. The other pairs tried to help, but the mere existence of opposites within their group made the pairing a strange one. Yet it happened, naturally, both between holders throughout the years and between the entities themselves.
One day when Guidance had had just about enough of their squabbling, she proposed that the two of them make some kind of arrangement if only to protect their holders from excessive mood swings and power disruptions whenever they went at it.
It took a century (which had gone so wrong that the miraculous were temporarily lost due), but in the end they came to an agreement. When it was proposed to the others, both Emotion and Illusion had issues with it. Emotion felt it would only further damage the connection between the miraculous, this time through the holders rather than themselves, while Illusion felt it just didn’t seem like a good way to utilize her area of expertise.
It didn’t matter, though, as Creation and Destruction, when settled on something, could rarely be opposed. (Guidance feared a day when they would have no choice but to rise against them or their holders. She feared they would not be enough to stop them if the need ever arose.) So Illusion begrudgingly added a condition to the Miraculous. Originally, the holders of the Miraculous would recognize one another, in and out of costume, due to their magical link. It took time, of course, depending on how close the holders were, but it was inevitable that they would be revealed sooner or later.
The new condition hid that connection. No longer would the Ladybug and Black Cat be forced together in and out of their duties. They would not feel the tug of magic drawing the opposites together. Creation and Destruction would not be forced to settle their issues with one another when their holders got too close.
This condition lasted for centuries, but to Creation and Destruction’s dismay (and to Illusion’s utter glee), the effects did not stop the holders of Creation and Destruction from finding each other. It often took much longer, and with higher costs than the entities would have liked, but they would still find each other. Some even went as far as to reveal themselves willingly.
Guidance and Emotion feared that this failure would bring ruin to them all, but the condition soon turned out in their favor. As Creation and Destruction watched their wielders keep finding each other, the two worked together to see if they couldn’t prevent it by picking new holders that were further and further apart. It became a bit of a game (much to Transmisions annoyance). See how much time and space seemed to move in order to get their marks together. The Entities were pleased to see that their brother and sister had finally found peace with one another.
On the day that Emotion disappeared, it was Creation and Destruction who started the search. And when Transmission began to fade, it was the pair that suggested Paris as the location they’d move the Miraculous to, given the Moth’s last known location.
