NIGHT 4

“Hello, hello? Hey! Hey, wow, day 4! I knew you could do it.” Mike had half a mind to mute the call. He was sick of this, honestly. Sick of everything. Surely Fazbear Entertainment knew this was an insult, right? Playing some poor shmuck’s training tapes for the new guy knowing full well this job was a sad excuse for a death loop. Mike wondered how many people before him hadn’t made it, and the tapes just played on anyway. Still, if the guy had anything pertinent to say about Freddy’s new behavior, he couldn’t afford to miss it. Just two more days and they’ll be free. Just two more days.

“Uh, hey, listen. I may not be around to send you a message tomorrow.”

Mike jumped at a loud banging sound, hand reaching for the door button before he realized it had been coming from the tape.

“It’s-It’s been a bad night here for me. Um, I’m kinda glad that I recorded my messages for you… uh, when I did.”

Crap. Well, so much for learning about new behaviors then. In fact, by the sounds of things this phone guy had been… Mike shuddered. Thinking about that now would only make what he’d have to do soon harder. So what if one more person died? So what if his Father had so little humanity that he’d set up security guards to just perpetually die on mass, all set up before his untimely death and still not fixed by the board of directors? So what if Mike had to… had to…

“Uh, hey, do me a favor.” Mike could hear banging from the tape. At the same time he’d noticed Bonny getting close, so his attention was split. He should really mute the call. His finger hovered over the button, but he hesitated.

“Maybe sometime, uh, you could check inside those suits in the back room? I’m gonna try to hold out until someone checks. Maybe it won’t be so bad.”

Mike’s vision flashed, a Golden Fredbear and an “It’s me” plaguing his senses. Tears stung at his eyes as he thought of Evan, his Fredbear plush he took everywhere, of the amount of force the spring locks could unload onto the human head.

“Uh, I always wondered what was in all those empty heads back there.

“You know…” Mike shut Bonnie’s door at the same time he heard Freddie’s laughter play through the phone. “Oh no.”

A melody began to play. Mike held his breath, both because Bonnie’s shadow lingered at the door and because the melody playing meant it was a waiting game. Just last night Mike had heard it, barely scraping by to 6 AM. He’d been sure it was over.

Screams rang out, a horrible, glitchy animatronic yowl followed by a strangled, blood-curdling human one. Then silence. After a couple of seconds, the usual alarm played denoting the end of a shift.

Crap. Six seconds and the man would have lived to see another day. Just six seconds.

“What did he do to deserve it, though?” Mike moaned, checking to see that Bonnie had finally moved on. “I know why you hate me and Dad, but…” Mike was surprised to feel his breath stutter. Usually, he couldn’t feel anything at all.

It’s Me

“I know, Evan,” Mike whispered, opening the shut door and shutting the left one before checking on Foxy. “We both know I... that I did just as bad.”

It’s Me It’s Me It’s Me

Mike laughed through the tears. “I know, Evan. And I know you don’t want this any more than I did back then. You’ve made it clear.”

He had dreamed about this, hadn’t he? Before he had learned of Charlie’s death, his father’s secrets, and the fate of his sister and Mom. Before he had been murdered and reborn like them . Before his quest to make sure his father couldn’t come back, to help all the poor souls that got stuck like him rest.

He had wanted a chance to see his brother again. A chance to apologize and be forgiven. A chance to be together again. And in a way, he had found it. And though part of him wanted to suffer just so he could continue to have it, he also knew it wouldn’t be fair to the kids.

He’d cherish these last two nights, and then his brother and his friends would be free. It was almost over.
