I love The Buttercups :))
Also, Mumbo will never be shipped with any of them, because I can only ever see Grian and Scar being together. Mumbo is Grian’s childhood best friend and therefore I feel it would be a bit odd to have them start dating :) (and I can’t ever see just him and Scar getting together lol)
This is just my opinion so if you don’t like it, don’t read!
The majority of this is fluff because while angst is fun to write, I also have this urge to always have a happy ending (something I want to break free from hehehe)

Lizzie waves, and gives him what Scar can only infer is a sympathetic smile. “You don’t have to!” She calls, and the end of her words get snuffed in the wind, but Scar understands. She waits a moment, in which Scar doesn’t reply. “I love you!”
“Love you too,” he murmurs, forlorn and resigned to his fate. He gives a light, rather pathetic and limp wave before turning back to the house, a heavy sigh exhaling from his lungs and soothing his mind for a moment but not long enough.
He’s going to die in this stupid house.
He moves forward anyway.

ORScar is dared to go into the haunted house on the edge of town, and he's no coward, so he does. At first, the house is creepy but normal, but it's who is inside that changes everything.

“You— You know the Secret Keeper voices? When you succeed your task?” Scar asks, the words practically bursting out of him, propelled by the pressure of being kept at bay for so long.
Martyn’s eyes narrow just slightly, his gaze flickering to the Secret Keeper and then back. “Yeah, I’ve heard ‘em. We all have, far as I can tell.”
Scar nods and swallows, pasting on a shaky grin. “I hear them all the time.”

Grian was breathing heavily in the quiet, as though he had just run a marathon, or gotten the fright of his life; his face looked somewhere halfway between scared and furious. It was an ugly expression.
“What did you say?” Grian’s voice cracked horribly, both a hiss and a demand, and at the same time rising hysterically, “Where did you hear that name?!”
