Work Text:

There were only a few occasions where it was a good thing to be tangled in the rigging. This was one of those times, Skrimm discovered, as his new vantage point (upside down alongside the ship) had given him a very clear angle at a -very- good target on the rear of this merchant ship they were chasing.

Cackling wildly, the goblin swung himself around, skittering up the side of the ship with a truly horrifying amount of speed. It was only a few moments after he fell that he popped back up over the side of the ship.

"Guysguysguys!....guys?"

There was nobody around. Very faintly, he could hear Barnabos bellowing something, and he could hear the 'whomp' of Taishen's cannon firing. But...

"...-nobody- came to give me a hand?! Aw, come on! Am I just expendable to these people or what?"

Shadows began to twist and warp around his feet, stretching and growing alongside his angry muttering until they reached the end of the torchlight. Then they stopped, unable to go farther. He threw up his hands. "Great, even you guys aren't gonna help me! Gods dammit!"

With a massive scowl on his face, Skrimm stomped around the side of the ship, raising his voice. "No, don't worry, everybody! I'm fine, don't concern yourself with your lookout! Even if he risks life and limb for you all! What about-"

A looming presence pressed over him, and he looked up. "... hey Jornir. I gotta favour to ask."

Rolling his eyes, the firbolg leaned back towards the wheel, making Skrimm scramble up beside him.

"Nononono, this's important! I need you to get Taishen's attention."

Jornir continued to watch the horizon, though his eye slid in Skrimm's direction for a moment.

"I found a target, but I can never get his attention when he's firing! So... can ya help?"

Both eyes were locked on the horizon now.

"I'm not heavy enough to shake the deck an' I'm not gonna touch him when he's in the zone. You know how hot he gets!"

Jornir turned his glance upwards, a long sigh showing his patience growing thin.

"C'mon, Jornir! Just this once? If I'm wrong, I'll... I'll... go do chores with Barnabos. Without complaining this time."

"...fine."

Another wild cackle escaped Skrimm as he hopped down, running towards the red-hot Dragonborn. He was almost there when a flash and a resounding crack split the air as a bolt of lightning lanced down to hiss into the waves.

Taishen jumped, the heat immediately disappating, and turned towards the helm. His attention was caught by the running Skrimm, and a wide smile split his face.

"Oh ho! Skrimm, hello! Do you need something?"

Wiggling a finger in his ear, the goblin scrambled up onto the railing. "Not so loud, Taishen! I gotta target for ya."

".... what?"

Groaning, Skrimm instead grabbed a hold of the gunners shirt, pulling him forward to point towards the target.

"... ah! That's a much better mark. Thank you, Skrimm! Just give me a moment to readjust and...!"

The cannon roared again, sending the fireball screaming towards the rear of their prey. Wood splintered, crew screamed, flames began to lick up from the hole they had blasted into the hull.

And the merchant ship stopped, almost dead in the water.

"Ahahahahaha!" Skrimm cackled, hopping in place as Taishen clapped him on the shoulder.

"Well done, Skrimm! I would have never seen that from this angle!"

Hopping down from the rail, the goblin summoned the jagged blade to his hand as he joined the boarding party, turning to flash an entirely too jagged grin at the gunner.

"S'why you got a great lookout like me around! Someone's gotta keep an eye on you all!"

"... what?"
