microplastic boy

Summary:

use your teeth on those who don’t deserve you

use your claws on everything that hurts you

pray to god, maybe he”ll purify you

do your best, i’m already inside you

omori, in all his forms

Chapter Text

you’re born at the age of twelve, body shivering and eyes blind like a baby mouse

you want to talk, but something inside you stills your tongue. there’s something inside you, you know, but it’s not trying to crawl out of you yet so you just ignore it. let it keep you silent

you’re born shivering and wet and blind, but then strong hands pull you out of the watery abyss, and you see your first sight: your older sister

"omori," she says with a laugh, "what were you doing in there? i thought you didn’t know how to swim!"

it’s true, you don’t, and you’re deathly afraid of drowning. you don’t know how your older sister scooped you up and pulled you out, not with her bad knee, but she carries you to her picnic blanket and hands you some food. you feel as good as new then.

mari saves you, but part of you knows it’s not for you, but for the thing inside of you, biding its time until the day it can claw out of your chest, burst forth oily, and ruin your life

but for now your duty is to protect the thing, to keep it safe. you don’t know why, but you don’t care, because if protecting the thing means staying with mari then it can’t be all bad, right?

Chapter Text

mari is your older sister and she loves you more than anything.

as time goes on, she brings you new friends - first hero, who she calls her hero, giggling at his blushes. then kel, hero’s little brother, whose toothy smile is captivating. there’s aubrey, who likes the color pink, and lets you wear her hairbow sometimes. and there’s basil, who makes everything he touches beautiful.

the thing about your friends is that there’s always something there in them. something bright and powerful and glowing. something that feels real.

and something that you and mari don’t have.

the thing inside mari is dead and decaying, still in existence but rotting, light snuffed out (an observation you have to hide from the thing inside of you)

you simply don’t have it. it’s not there. it’s empty, you are empty, you are blank as a sheet of paper and you don’t have nearly as much possibilities as one -

the world shivers like a winter boy taking a breath

wake up in whitespace. huh. you must have gotten too close to something that you’re meant to hide (because that’s your purpose, omori, you’re a deception and not a purpose)

you blink. the lightbulb’s vast dark emptiness is (just like you-) comforting and familiar

the white door is beckoning, inviting

you go through it, what else are you supposed to do?

"omori!" your friends shout (your friends that are alive, where’s mari? where’s basil? one is dead and one knows too much)

and you let yourself grow glowing yellow, let the thing inside of you feel happiness

what else are you supposed to do, after all?
