Summary
Tutoring a new assistant who has just finished her Harrowing, Orsino finds himself bonding with her over shared experiences and the burden of unseemly rumors. Together they take on the daily tasks of the Circle while Pearl researches for her Junior Enchanter’s Project in anticipation of her graduating into the Senior Enchanters’ Circle. As she researches, she comes across a loose page in a library book which contains a spell unlike any she has seen before. Fully intending to show Orsino, she forgets about it until the fateful day that a joke gone awry between them sets the spell into full motion, moving their consciousnesses into each others’ bodies. Waking up to this predicament, Orsino and Pearl must find out how to hide their condition until they can find a counter spell. Otherwise it could mean death, or worse, tranquility.
“Pearl winced, having hoped Orsino would relent on this particular exercise, only to be dashed by the “do it again!”. She sent a silent glare toward his back and found her opening stance again, blissfully unaware of his smirk in reaction to the lowly muttered “Bastard…” as she did so.”
