The cool fresh air of Dantooine hit Lukas. It was refreshing having spent the last three years mostly in a starship commanding battles. With the war finally over and his report given to the Jedi Council Lukas was allowed to return to Dantooine. Most of those who had left returned with Lukas following his lead. Only a handful went with Revan.
Revan had not been happy about his leaving. She wanted him to stay and help ensure the Mandalorians didn't return. He had made the excuse that he had promised to return and he always kept his promises. In truth Lukas was tired.
So tired of war and killing. If he kept following Revan he didn't think he would return alive. He doubted that his death would be in the heat of battle either. The darkness of his thoughts were more often than not his only company. The darkness that prevailed within his thoughts and mind making it difficult to remember what he was fighting for.
A gentle bump to shoulder got him moving again with an apologetic smile to the young Padawan who was waiting. The Padawan had been trained on Coruscant and was looking to find a master here to finish his training. He had looked to Lukas at first hoping to snag the General but Lukas firmly turned that down. He wasn't ready for missions much less the responsibility of a youngling. He would get them both killed. The boy has been disappointed but accepted Lukas's rejection. Still he wished the boy all the best and hoped he found someone who could trust him.
So Lukas started down the ramp and onto the Hanger Bay grounds. There were a handful of civilians walking about and no one would look him in the eye. Given the publicity around his return to Known Space it wasn't that surprising.
"Lukas?" Questioned a surprised voice from across the grounds.
A familiar dirty blond haired man jogging up into the courtyard. Lukas's breath caught in his chest as he recognized the Jedi Master before him. Jedi Master Kavar stood about two inches taller than Lukas and had put on more muscle since they last met. His bright blue eyes had not changed in the slightest though. They still held more life than Lukas felt in his entire body.
He was genuinely surprised to see Kavar there. The man wasn't known for finding a peaceful life. He was a famed Jedi Guardian and eventually a Battle Master. Lukas had spent many days in his early life on Dantooine learning from him. They had never been formally Padawan and Master but he was as close as since his Master's death.
A small gentle smile crossed his face as his shoulders relaxed. He greeted warmly, "Master Kavar it's been a long time. How are you?"
"None of that now," chided Kavar in an equally warm tone, "You're a Jedi Knight in your own right. I heard you had returned to the galaxy at large with many of those who left coming with you."
Lukas rubbed the back of his head and shyly responded, "Well I did promise. I don't think anyone would come back if I didn't. They were scared of how the Council would react."
Speaking of the Council. He had been surprised to find Kavar wasn't there when he arrived. Kavar was a member of the High Council and should have by all rights been there. Yet Lukas found him here on Dantooine.
"Most of the Council was there," commented Lukas catching the way Kavar's smile wavered slightly, "I was afraid when you weren't there."
And hurt but he wouldn't admit that out loud. He thought that Kavar had forgotten about him and their promise.
"I'm sorry," apologized Kavar as he rubbed the back of his neck, "Unfortunately I was called to Dantooine to test a potential candidate for Battle Mastery. They weren't ready for any such thing though. I had hoped to return to Coruscant before you reached it but the testing lasted longer than I expected. I never forgot you though."
That... That made sense actually. He could sense the truth within the Force and see it in Kavar's eyes.
Kavar stepped close into Lukas's personal space. If it had been anyone else his reaction would have been violent. The familiar scent of the plains washed over him and his shoulders eased.
"Welcome home," whispered Kavar before he gripped the front of Lukas's robes and pulled him into a kiss.
It surprised him at first but he quickly relaxed into the kiss and returned it. He was home.
