Phanfiction Bingo Square Fill: strangers meeting for the first time

Work Text:

“Fuck this,” Dan grumbles to himself as he drags his suitcase through the airport, he can see his gate, and he’s almost there, finally , but it’s been a hellish morning. First, Dan missed his alarm going off by about twenty minutes and had to scramble around the house making sure he had everything with him. Then, he had to get an Uber to the airport and the driver was rude to him. The TSA line was disastrous.

Dan just wants to sit and relax. He still has an hour before his plane boards, so at least there’s that.

Dan is less than thirty seconds from his gate when suddenly collides with another human, and then he’s being thrown to the ground with a thump. Dan groans as he slowly pushes himself up, confused.

“Oh, shit. I’m so sorry, mate!”

Dan looks over to see the other guy pushing himself up. “I was in a rush, and I-”

Dan wants to be angry, but the guy who ran into him is quite attractive, and how could Dan be mad at someone with a face like that . Dan blinks, and starts grabbing for his stuff. ‘Uh, it’s- it’s fine,”

“It’s not, really. I should have been looking where I’m going, but I was running late this morning-”

“Mate, don’t you know the rule? You’re supposed to show up to the airport like two hours early,” Dan says as he manages to get himself on his feet, and helps pull the other guy up.

“Yeah, that was my plan, but my alarm didn’t go off on time!” He exclaims, groaning.

“Funny, so did mine,” Dan says, chuckling lightly. “But lucky me, I still got here in time.”

Phil rolls his eyes. “You’re very annoying,”

“You just met me,” Dan retorts, though he’s not mad at all, in fact, he’s very amused. “And let’s not talk about being annoying. You’re the one who ran into me, literally !” He can’t help but laugh at the situation, because this would only happen to him when he’s already had a terrible start to his day. “Anyways, uh, yeah… it’s fine, mate. No harm done. Where are you heading? I’m Dan, by the way.”

“Phil, nice to meet you. Again, I’m sorry for crashing into you like that,” the man says, his cheeks turning a light pink. “I’m heading to Gate A, but I wanted to get something from Starbucks before the line gets long.”

Dan’s eyes light up as soon as the man, Phil , mentions that he’s in Gate A, because that’s Dan’s gate, and Dan would love to spend more time with this attractive gentlemen. “Wow, care for some company? I’m heading to Gate A as well,”

Phil seems just as excited as Dan to hear this news. “Really? You’re Gate A? You’re going to Florida?”

“Family vacation,” Dan confirms with a nod.

“Wow, same here. It’s a Lester tradition. We go to Florida once every year,” Phil explains as he leads the way to Starbucks. There’s only a couple of people in line at the moment, so it won’t be a long wait.

“That sounds nice. I never even wanted to go. I’m very busy preparing for my radio show this weekend-”

“No way. You have a radio show?” Phil asks, turning to look at Dan with wide eyes.

Dan nods. “I have a show on BBC. I’m on in the morning, right before Grimmy,” he tells Phil.

“That’s so cool. I love Grimmy. I’ll have to check out your show when I’m home again,” Phil says, sounding genuine. Normally, people aren’t very interested when Dan talks about his radio show, but Phil seems different. Dan only just met the guy, and he’s already different from most people Dan’s met, and Dan’s met a lot of people, being a radio show host and all.

Dan spends the next hour with Phil, just talking with him and getting to know him. Dan finds that he and Phil have a lot in common. They like the same music tastes, and tv shows.

“What group are you in?” Phil asks when Group A starts lining up to board.

“Uh,” Dan quickly takes out his boarding pass on his phone. “Group B. I’m number seven though.”

“I’m Group A. Maybe I’ll be able to save you a seat so we can sit together,”

“Yeah,” Dan breathes, unable to take his eyes away from Phil. “Would it be terribly creepy if I asked for your number? I mean, maybe we can hang out… since we’re both going to Florida.”

“Oh, sure! Not creepy at all. I was actually going to ask for yours,” Phil pulls out his phone, and he quickly exchanges numbers with Dan. “I have to start lining up, but I’ll try to save you a seat so we can sit together. It was really nice meeting you. You made this morning less miserable to get through.” He grins at Dan, before standing up and heading to his spot in line.

Dan looks down at his phone and instantly texts his friend Louise with a simple i think i’m in love, lou .
