Notes:

Hello there. ^.^ I’m Mikau. It’s so nice to see you. Thank you very much for checking this out! I’ve been sick, and participating in fandom has been too much for me, so I’ve been taking a break from writing. My doctors are narrowing in on a diagnosis, so hopefully I’ll be getting treatment and feeling better soon, but, in the meantime, I’ve been working on an original novel inspired by Greek myths featuring Hermes.

These oneshots all take place in the same universe as the novel, but they might not necessarily end up being canon, and they’re not in any particular order. The writing prompts that are the oneshot titles came from a random word generator.

I hope you enjoy!

Character Profiles and Background

Hermes Angelos Theos Serrano

22. 5’7”. Messy, medium-length, dark brown hair. Peridot green eyes. He works as a courier, Zumba instructor, and removal technician for his uncle Hades’s funeral home.

His mother, Maia Paloma Serrano Gutierrez was a Mexican opera singer, but she passed away in an accident when Hermes was five. His older sister Athena became his legal guardian, and Hermes went to live with his father Zeus (a shady business mogul), his stepmother Hera, and a house full of his assorted half-siblings.

Hermes starting taking care of his younger brother Dionysus when Hermes was twelve with the help of a staff of nurses after Dionysus’s mother Semele passed away. Athena was Dionysus’s legal guardian until Hermes turned eighteen and officially took over Dionysus’s guardianship. Hermes adores Dionysus and enjoys being a parent, even though it’s often stressful.

Hermes is nonbinary. He mainly uses he/him pronouns in English, but in languages like Spanish or French where having one male in a group of females necessitates a change to male endings for the group, Hermes uses she/her pronouns.

Hermes’s love life is a disaster. He becomes infatuated easily and is eager to please, but he has a hard time finding people who accept him as he is. His relationships never last very long. He has the biggest crush on his friend and coworker Thanatos and is in love with Charon, his coworker and one of his closest friends. Hermes and his best friend Eros are in a queerplatonic relationship.

Charon Chthonia

32. 6’3”. His hair was originally black, but he started going grey early, so now it’s about half and half. It’s a little shorter than shoulder-length, and he typically wears it in a little ponytail at the nape of his neck. Blue-grey eyes. Glasses. Charon works as a mortician at Hades’s funeral home. He’s a talented reconstructionist.

Charon started losing his hearing in his late teens and now primarily uses sign language to communicate. Not a lot of people in Olympia Hills know ASL, though, so he ends up lipreading a lot, and it exhausts him.

Charon’s asexual, and, for the longest time, he assumed he was aromatic as well, but then Hermes came into his life like a hurricane, and it was impossible for Charon not to fall in love.

Charon and Thanatos live together for convenience’s sake. They normally get along well enough, but their rivalry over Hermes’s affections has been making things tense lately.

Thanatos Chthonia

25. 5’10”. Short but full black hair. Sapphire blue eyes. Glasses. Very pale. Thanatos works as a mortician at Hades’s funeral home.

Thanatos is extremely misanthropic. He prefers to read and do puzzles and listen to audiobooks.

He’s been pining after Ares for years. Even though Ares is a little older (28), Thanatos skipped a few grades, so they were in the same class. Thanatos started interacting with Hermes five years ago when Hermes began working for Hades, and Thanatos has begrudgingly developed feelings for Hermes. When Hermes has to go to residences to retrieve the deceased, Thanatos goes too, so they have a good working relationship and trust one another, but they’re not very close emotionally.

For a long time, Thanatos thought of Hermes as “Hypnos’s annoying friend”, but he’s recently seen Hermes in a different light, and he’s starting to give in to his feelings.

Thanatos and Charon live together. Hypnos is Thanatos’s older twin brother.

Eros Loving

24. 6’. Shoulder-length, strawberry blonde hair. Golden hazel eyes. Eros is a wedding planner. He also created a moderately successful dating app with his older sister Aphrodite.

Eros and Hermes have been friends since Hermes moved to Olympia Hills. Hermes skipped a few grades, so he and Eros were in the same class. They’ve been through a lot together, and they’re utterly devoted to one another. They’ve been in a queerplatonic relationship for many years.

Eros loves archery, and he’s good enough to give Apollo and even Artemis a run for their money. He’s also a huge closet geek. He loves anime, manga, videogames, roleplaying, and card games. He’s dragged Hermes to many conventions and midnight movie showings over the years. Hermes always goes when Eros asks because Hermes loves his zucchini.

Eros has recently met Psyche and is having a bit of a meltdown. He always thought if he was going to fall in love, he would have done it by now, and it would have been with Hermes. He’s conflicted because he feels like he’s cheating on Hermes, despite the fact that Hermes is enthusiastically cheering him on. No matter what, Eros and Hermes both want the other to be happy.

Dionysus Theos

10. 4’11”. Long, curly, dark brown hair. Hazel eyes.

Dionysus is a precocious kid. He gets it from his mother, Hermes. He’s very smart and inquisitive, and he enjoys learning new things. He’s had to grow up fast in the Theos manor, so he’s very mature for his age (most of the time).

His birth mother died in a car accident (Zeus was driving) while still pregnant with Dionysus, but the doctors were able to save him. Hermes immediately took to him, so Zeus let him take care of Dionysus with the help of a team of in-home nurses. Zeus assumed Hermes would get tired of his new “doll” before long and they’d give Dionysus up for adoption, but, ten years later, Hermes is still a devoted parent.

Dionysus secretly feels guilty. Hermes does his best to take good care of Dionysus, but Hermes is kind of a mess and has a lot of his own problems to deal with. Dionysus tries to be a good kid and help take care of Hermes however he can—whether that’s helping Hermes calm down from a panic attack or doing something thoughtful to make Hermes smile.

Dionysus is a sweetheart, but he also has a temper, like many in the Theos family. He gets bullied at school by his cousin Pentheus and that jerk Lycurgus. His best friend is Acoetes. He’s decided that he’s going to marry Ariadne (15) when they’re older. (He will eventually, but first he’s going to meet Ampelos in the fall when the new school year starts.)

Hypnos Chthonia

25. 5’10”. Short but full messy black hair. Sapphire blue eyes. Tan skin. Athletic build. Hypnos is a funeral arranger at Hades’s funeral home. Hypnos is Thanatos’s older twin brother. They’re also next-door neighbors.

Hypnos’s passion is soccer. He went to university on a scholarship and was going to go pro after graduation, but when he was twenty, his girlfriend Pasithea became pregnant with triplets. Hypnos dropped out of school and got a steady job as a funeral arranger at Hades’s funeral home so he could provide for his new wife and children.

Even though he had to give up on his dream career, Hypnos couldn’t be happier. He adores Pasithea, and nothing brings him more joy than his three boys (Morpheus, Phobetor, and Phantasos). His family is everything to him.

The triplets are now five, and it’s been half a decade since Hypnos last got a good night’s sleep. He runs almost exclusively on iced coffee.

Due to a learning disorder, Hypnos was held back a year in school, so he was in Eros and Hermes’s year.
