Relationship: Black Cousins – Andromeda, Bellatrix, Narcissa, Regulus, and Sirius
Prompt: (AU) Soulmates
In magic families, an eleven birthday was a special event. A child would receive their Hogwarts acceptance letter. In the Black family, the child would receive their wand and they would be taught a secret family spell. According to the family lore, this spell would lead them to their soulmates and they had until they turned seventeen to fall love in. If they turned seventeen without falling in love, their magic would reject them and the family would be forced to secure a betrothal agreement.
Most people in the family didn’t want that for their children.
No one deserved to be doomed to a loveless marriage. But it did happen. Orion Black the Third and Walburga Black was a recent example of this. Orion was able to find his soulmate, and Walburga’s soulmate did not fall in love with her.
Bellatrix was the first of her cousins and sisters. Early in the morning, she received an unyielding walnut and dragon heartstring wand and she had visions of pears, unicorns, blue eyes, and a silvery cat. In her fifth year, she identified her soulmate as Hope Lovegood, a Hufflepuff with blonde hair and blue eyes. They were in love by the end of their sixth year.
Andromeda followed with strong rowan and dragon heartstring wand and March 1, 1955, over her heart. By the Winter Holidays of her first year, Andromeda knew her soulmate was a Hufflepuff named Ted Tonks. They were a couple by the beginning of third year.
Sirius followed. He was the proud owner of a fierce blackthorn and dragon heartstring wand, and he hid two tattoos on his wrist – a stag on the left and a lily on the right. Sirius recognized Lily Evans as one of his soulmates on their first night, and he knew James Potter was the other by their fifth year. After Narcissa and Regulus interfered, Sirius and his soulmates were in love by the Winter Holidays of their sixth year.
Narcissa followed closely behind Sirius. Her wand was a beautiful willow and unicorn tailhair, and she received the Malfoy family crest over her heart. Finding the identity of her soulmate was easy. There was only one single Malfoy, Lucius. Falling in love was more difficult. Lucius was four years old. Narcissa was sixteen when they were officially introduced and she made an impression that had Lucius visiting her on Hogsmeade weeks in her sixth year.
Regulus was the last with red oak and dragon heartstring wand and dreams of hissing. With helps from his brother and his cousins, they were able to identify the most likely match as Tom Marvolo Gaunt, the only known descend of Salazar Slytherin, a few weeks before his seventeenth birthday. Through Hope, Regulus accidentally ran into the man at Estella when their table was double-booked. They enjoyed a lovely luncheon followed by a stroll through Diagon Alley.
