Notes:

Inspired by the bad weather we have been getting where I am.

Work Text:

Thunder boomed and rain pelted down on the roof and walls of the abbey, the  sky a grey haze as the winds were hard enough to sway the sturdy branches of the healthiest trees, the perfect combination to spike anyways anxieties, especially Swiss’s partners anxiety.

“Oh shit. Oh where are they?” Swiss asks himself, panicking as he searches for his partner within the abbey, knowing that if he's anxious about the weather then they are DEFINITELY anxious about it too.

He had checked the practice room, Papa’s office, the ghouls wing and even your own room, and yet you were nowhere to be found. He was really starting to get worried as he checked off more and more rooms off the list and still was not able to find you. He had tried calling you on multiple occasions too and yet each time it went to voicemail, he gave up on calling when he found you left your phone in your room.

In the cafeteria? No.

What about the kitchen itself? No.

Surely they are not in the library… Yeah, nope not here either.

Confessional??? No. Sathanas Swiss why would they be there?

Prayer room? Nope.

No.

No.

No.

No.

No matter where Swiss had looked he still had yet to find you, and at this point the storm was getting worse and worse.

There was only one place where Swiss had yet to look. The greenhouse. When the idea of his very frightened partner being out alone in the greenhouse during a storm dawned on him he kicked into overdrive.
He pulls out his phone from his pocket as he begins to run down the abbey’s halls, dialing Mountain in the process.

“I need you to meet me at the greenhouse, now!” Swiss yells urgently, racing through the halls, “And bring the keys.”

“Swiss we are literally on a tornado watch right now, what could be that important?” Mountain responds,

“Y/n! I think they got stuck in there. Only place I haven’t looked yet.”

“Shit Swiss, why didn’t you say that first? I’ll be there as quick as I can.”

“Oh thank fuck-!” And with that Swiss pockets his phone, not bothering to hang up the phone first.

He raced through the halls at inhuman speeds, thanking the Dark Lord for his ghoul ability, making it to the gardens in no time. He heard Mountain following behind by the time he made it to the greenhouse.

“I’m hoping for both of your sakes they are in here.” Mountain says as he unlocks the door to the glass structure.

“I hope so too.” Swiss says worriedly as he enters the door Mountain had opened.

“I’ll wait out here for you two.”

And with that Swiss makes his way through the greenhouse, which wasn’t a very small space in the slightest. The plants that Primo grew were growing big and strong and while that was usually a good thing, to Swiss it made his task harder.

The plants mixed with the smell of rain and wet dirt masked the faint scent he picked up of you as he sniffed the greenhouse’s air.

“Y/n!?” He called out, eyes scanning through the plants. Feeling as if his vision was obstructed by the mesh lenses of his masks, he decides to pull the helmet from his head and place it back by the entrance, before resuming his search.

“Y/n?!” He calls out again, going deeper into what currently felt like the ministry’s own personal jungle. He stops and thinks for a second before remembering there's a storage closet somewhere within the greenhouse. He wonders if you had made your way there to hide when the storm picked up.

He vaguely remembers you telling him about how it was in the back of the building, all those months ago when he asked, half jokingly, if there were any spots where he could steal you away from work and hide for a while. Using this knowledge he heads to the back, spotting the door along the back wall.

Swiss rushes up to it and pulls it up to reveal you. You had shoved yourself under the lower shelf, knees to chest and hands over your ears as you cried, not realizing Swiss was in front of you.

Swiss drops to his knees in front of you and cups your cheeks in his hands, bringing your gaze to his.

“Swiss?” You choked out, relief starting to wash over you.

“Yes, baby, I’m here now. I got you.” He says softly, now pulling you into his arms, cradling your head with one head and the other hand placed on the small of your back. He runs a clawed hand through your hair as he lets you cry into him until your calm, whispering sweet nothings into your ears.

“I was. I was so scared!” You eventually hiccup out, pulling your face from his neck, tears streaming down your cheeks and eyes puffy.

“I know love, I was too.” He says as he wipes away your tears, “I couldn’t find you anywhere. I should’ve known you would be here. I’m so sorry for not getting here sooner, baby.” He apologizes, pressing a kiss to your head.

“I’m glad you're here.” you respond weakly, clinging to him, still shaking in fear as you listen to the rain pelting the glass.

“I’m here, I promise.” Swiss says again, “Let's get you back to your room okay? Do you think you can brave the weather for a second?” He asks, stroking your hair again. “Mountain will be with us until we get inside, we won't let anything happen to you, okay?” He reassures you as he sees the panic in your eyes.

You nod eventually, wanting to get out of the cramped closet and go back to a safe place. Swiss stands up, helping you up in the process before leading you to the exit of the greenhouse. He grabs the helmet he left by the door and shoves it back on before looking at you, who had walked behind even though their hands were together.

“Are you ready?” He asks, pulling you into his side so he could hold you close to him. You nod cautiously and follow his lead.

True to his word it didn’t take long for him to get you inside the walls of the ministry, nor did it take long for him to get you back to your room either, with you glued to his side the entire way there.

He helps you get into clean dry clothes before getting the fire going in the fireplace that was in your room. He sat the two of you down in front of it, a healthy distance away and pulled you close to him.

“What were you doing out there during weather like this?” He asks softly, rubbing your arm with his fingers and his tail wrapping itself around you.

“I was out there before the storm started… I was doing my daily chores and must have gotten carried away and next thing I know it's the perfect brewing ground for tornados outside.” You explain sheepishly, looking at him. “If I had known we were getting weather like this… I would’ve stayed inside…”

“I’m sorry you waited so long for me.” Swiss apologizes again, cupping your face in one of his hands. You just smile slightly at him before reaching your hands up to rest on his helmet.

“May I?” You ask, wanting to see the face of your ghoul. He nods and helps you take his helmet off, revealing his navy skin and golden eyes to you once again. He sets his helmet down beside him and grasps your face in his hands again.

“Thank you for finding me.” You eventually say, looking into his shining gold eyes. He smiles, exposing his fangs, before pulling in to press a sweet kiss to your lips. You melt against him and relish in the familiar feeling of safety you often felt when in his hands.

You spend the rest of the storm wrapped up in his arms, your focus on his heartbeat and his gentle touches keeping you calm until the storm eventually passes. By which, at that point, the two of you have already fallen asleep curled into each other.
