Work Text:

As they walk away from their new human friend and the Owl House, Willow and Gus (he still can’t believe he has a real human nickname!) walk side-by-side. It sucks that Luz got banned from Hexside, but considering what happened, the results could have been a lot worse. And at least this way he and Willow can visit Luz whenever they want and learn more about humans.

He buzzes with excitement at the thought of what he can learn from Luz, babbling, “Now I can finally learn if that book about humans Dad bought me is accurate or not. Oh, and she might have real human objects that she brought from her realm. Do you think she’d let me show some of her belongings to the Human Appreciation Society? Wait…” He trails off, glancing at Willow, who stares down at her now-green leggings, her attention clearly elsewhere. “Willow, are you listening to me?” His suspicions are confirmed when she doesn’t reply, and Gus sighs, nudging Willow with his elbow. “Hello? Willow? Are you there?”

“Huh?” Willow jumps, turning to look at him. “Sorry, did you say something?”

Gus raises his eyebrows. “I asked if you were listening to me. But…” He chuckles. “You obviously weren’t.”

Willow smiles awkwardly. “Y-Yeah, I guess something’s… on my mind. Sorry, Gus. What were you saying?”

“I was just talking about the human. Luz is fascinating, and I wanna learn so much about where she’s from.”

“Y-Yeah. She’s pretty cool,” Willow says, suddenly bashful, and when her cheeks flush bright red, Gus realizes why she was so distracted.

“Oh my Titan, you like her, don’t you?!” he says, grabbing Willow’s hand.

“What?” she squeaks, blushing harder.

“You’re crushing on Luz.” He grins up at her, his smile teasing yet fond.

“No, I’m not!” Willow says, her voice reaching an incredibly high pitch.

“Yes, you are,” Gus says in a sing-song tone. He would stop teasing her if it made her uncomfortable, but Willow, despite her flustered behavior, is fine with it. Both of them tease each other sometimes; it’s just part of being friends.

Willow glances at him before nudging him back. “Okay, maybe I am. She’s just so… cute.”

Her expression softens as she talks about Luz, and Gus smiles. Willow often seems very down (probably to do with her time stuck in the Abomination Track, and the awful things the other girls at school call her), so it’s lovely to see her happy.

“Well, hopefully we’ll get to see her soon,” Gus says. After all, he needs to learn as much as he can from Luz about the Human Realm.

“Yeah.”

And as Willow smiles, Gus starts to talk about humans again, glad that his friend listens this time, and relieved that everything turned out well.
