Dean runs, demanding Where's the angel? of everything he sees. Decapitates a vampire, sees and preps himself to fight a werewolf, another one of those friggin gorilla wolves that almost nabbed him soon as he showed up, and then
"It's a human portal, jackass. Only humans can get through. I show you the way, you take me topside."
"So what, you wanna catch a Soul Train? Why should I trust you?"
"First rule of Purgatory, chief - don't trust anybody."
"Why should I let you help me?"
"Whatta you got to lose?"
So he gets some help, meets a decent vampire. Or, well. Dean hesitates to call anyone or anything decent down here, but. As the guy himself said: Take away the fangs and the fun, I was human once.
And so was the next being he sees - baleful eyes in the distance, stalking them. He can tell they're being stalked, chased, hounded by someone -something that just won't quit. "That a friend of yours?" Dean had asked, kidded. Almost teased a little even though he knew it wasn't. He knew the second he discovered they were being followed.
Benny shook his head. "Whattabout me makes ya think I got friends here? I mean yeah sure I'm a friendly guy, but uh-" there's blinding quickness and a slamming of bodies buoyed by super strength into each other as
"-Well well. Can't do anything for Sammy now, huh? Whoa, easy there Chachi," snide tone hits Dean like a sucker-punch as Benny gets held back by a spear with an enormous blade curved like a sickle's. As the blade curls around the vampire's neck "I think you should call off your attack dog here Dean. Or should I say fang?" Dark eyes flash over baring teeth as "Doesn't matter, things 're still gonna get pretty ...messy."
"Oh but mess ain't news for you, you sadistic son of a bitch," Dean fires back at the other, hands tightening on his own weapon. "How bout that hole 'a yours, huh, Gordon? Ya kill enough to fill it up yet? Oh wait, I almost forgot. Ya didn't, 'cause you're dead," smacking his lips and feeling his chest clench up as much as warm with pride, he adds "got yourself headless. Who was it who killed ya? It was Sam. He got to ya himself after you, what? Put out a friggin hit on us like a coward, and not only did my brother put the cops on your ass in the first place, he nabbed you with all that gear even after ya busted out. All to get us back, right?" Dean curls his lips in a sneer.
Gordon laughs, eyes widening and fangs agleam. "Oh, that's good. Good for him. And you? How many have you killed, how many would you the longer you were turned, huh?"
Dean freezes for a split second. He hears his own voice from years ago: -Maybe I'm like you, maybe not. But I'm not the one tied up right now.
"Surprised I knew that, huh, just like I knew ya were here and came to find ya. Well I know all about your little stint as a fang, and that you let the Alpha LIVE-" He lunges at Dean, eyes murderous. "You are a curse, and so is your family," he hisses with vitriol as deadly as fangs. "...First your brother tums the reason that I hate fangs against me, and not only won't he kill... he SaVES those fangs and gets you to leave me there with em. But none of that's enough to prove he'd go Dark Side, oh no I'm in prison because Sam was doing the right thing when I was trying to do what's RIGHT. Save the world from your Winchester curse! 'Cause it's you two who'd end it." A pause precedes snarling lip trembling before Gordon works his tongue over teeth and spits.
Spittle strikes Dean's cheeks and chin. He jerks his head up and backwards fast enough for it not to reach his eyes, but somehow it still seems to burn like acid. He blinks, shakes his head and throws a fist at Gordon's.
"And my worst nightmare becomes real, I'm turned and then, what? What happens?" Gordon Walker taunts as he does a full-on Matrix move to lean out of Dean's fist's line of fire. "I get dead, caught by your brother before he was amped up on his Jamba juice, but he wasn't a monster, huh? Wasn't bad? Why," Gordon barks a bitter little laugh.
"-Oh, that's right. He turns back, once he gets juiced up on blood. Sweet innocent little Sammy iced me and you didn't stop him. He became as much of a fang, drinking blood same as me. It was demon blood, sure - knew he'd get to drinking.... I know, I SMELLED it," Gordon bares his fangs at the look on Dean's face, at the way he tries to mask a wince. "Oh I hit a nerve, huh? Well you're gonna hafta tell me how you justified that one. Better watch out," Gordon says to Benny, turns his head as the other vamp stretches and rubs his jaw, the side of his neck. "He's willing to let everyone bite it for the sake of savin his family. He'll do you in too."
Dean growls. "-Fuck you, nothing you say matters to me, Gordon. You don't get to start moralizin' when you killed your own SISTER-"
"Because she wasn't my sister anymore! She'd've killed anybody. Everybody, drained em all, their lives away. But nah, that doesn't matter to you, does it? Of course not." Gordon's eyes rove over the other's furious face, his skin splattered with blood. "You'd sacrifice everything, the entire world to save your brother. Keep him from going bad, let everyone else die. Oh but I'm the sadist here? Tell me, who's the real monster huh? And your brother... where is he now anyway?" Making a show of twisting his head side to side, slowly, before lifting an eyebrow Gordon asks "Is he here? Is he busting his ass coming to save you?"
Dean straightens up. He looks away and then grins mirthlessly before swinging a right hook at Gordon's face. The vampire dodges left but Dean hits him low and hard, quick and savage with the butt of his own weapon, shifting weight to knee and with fingers clenching around the shaft of Gordon's weapon, Dean leans and levers the other down onto his back. "-See, that's where you're wrong. I keep the world safe from bastards like you." Dean twists his body and uses all his weight to bring to bear and jabs down now, long weapon with its curved blade impaling into the abdomen of the downed vampire.
Clenching both fists around the shaft and driving it in, twisting with lips pursed and cheek and jaw muscles twitching, Dean leans down to put his face next to Gordon and adds into his ear, "And ya obviously didn't get your facts straight, 'cause we STOPPED the Apocalypse, Sam and me. We shut the Devil back inside his fucking hole. So, ya know why the Earth is still spinning? We did that! But you're not around to enjoy it, and you ain't gonna be," With a grunt Dean presses all of his weight into the shaft of the weapon and twists it farther into Gordon's wound. The hunter-turned-vampire lifts his chin and holds Dean's eyes as long as he can with hatred burning in his own before letting out a groan muffled by teeth clenched, cords standing taut in his neck. "Yeah, that's right. And for the record, I ain't going for this vampire" Dean nods at Benny. "Just you. Eat that, you dick." He thrusts down again, effectively pinning Gordon into the ground. He'd tear an enormous hole through his own entrails if he were to work himself free. "Later Gordon," Dean says as he straightens up slow and makes a deliberate point of brushing off his hands as he turns away. Gordon snarls, but it's more of a whine. Dean knows he hasn't killed him; if he does the guy will probably just respawn, but sticking to him and putting him in his place literally had felt pretty damn good.
"Let's blow this friggin point, Benny," clapping hand briefly on the burly vampire's shoulder as they start to move away, Dean's gaze goes to and pretty much instantly away from Benny's grizzled features as they walk.
"Wouldja do that, chief?" Benny asks as they put some distance between themselves and where Dean left Gordon's body.
"Do what?" Dean replies, turning his knuckles over at the sight of skin scraped and blotted by dirt and blood. Great, even more.
"Leave everything else for dead if it came down to that, to save your brother," Benny says bluntly.
Dean stops walking and stares at him. He doesn't know why Benny asking that makes his stomach curl in a way that almost makes him feel sick, but he does his best to let out a laugh. "What, you not like your chances with me now?"
"Nah. Just wondering where I stand, is all" the guy speaks easily, blue eyes glittering under his cap. And damn, why does that make Dean's heart rate jump?
He tries for a shrug and a smile that are both nonchalant, but his jaw clenches hard and his hands feel clammy and cold. "Fair enough," he clears his throat and swallows. "If it comes down to savin Sammy I'll do whatever it takes. I always wi- always have, and uh. I ain't apologizing for it and I don't feel any damn need to, either." Dean's voice rises. "Just l- I'm here for Cas, too," he changes words slightly, not looking directly at Benny.
Benny cocks his head as he seems to think about Dean's words and then he shrugs with a twinkle still shining in his eye. "Ah, I saw it when I metcha. You gotta tough heart, Dean. And being willin to sacrifice for your family or someone you care about is nothin' but a plus in my book. Not that ya need my approval," something about the way he looks after saying that has Dean letting out an honest laugh. Benny smiles small as the other's bright eyes beam brighter and his skin crinkles with his laughter. "- 'sides d'you think I'd ditch your ass for somethin' like that? I told ja I was human once too."
"-Oh, great. I got approval from a vamp. Lucky me." Dean now speaks in a satire of seriousness.
Benny shakes his head with a chuckle of his own. "Ya c'n bitch about it all ya want, but you ain't gettin' rid a me that easy, smartass."
"-Oh really?" Dean's face feels a little hot, and he coughs to combat it before continuing "so I'm a smartass 'stead of a jackass. Guess I got an upgrade."
"Damn right." Benny lifts his lip, flashing pointy teeth in a smile, but the look in his eyes appears somehow ...warm, now. "You're welcome."
