They say

Summary:

People are...... assholes. That's the only way to put it. If it doesn't match what they feel that has to look like, many won't accept metal illnesses as real.

Notes:

Like the rest of this series, this poem is very dark. I've left it at teen rating because that's when I was feeling the worst of it and I want to leave it out there for others suffering like I was. Depression knows no age but some of my depictions are darker. If mentions of self harm, suicide, depression, anxiety, or anything along that line of thinking triggers you, PLEASE DO NOT READ. I'm all for comments and kudos, but not at the cost of your safety. Your life is more important than some stupid poem on the internet

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Depression is sadness,

They say.

But I'm not sad.

I'm lonely.

I'm broken

I'm hopeless.

I'm passed the point of feeling.

But I'm not sad,

So I can't be depressed.

Self harm is cutting,

They say.

But I'm not cutting.

I'm picking scabs.

I'm playing with pins.

I'm not eating right.

I'm purposefully neglecting sunscreen.

But I'm not cutting,

So I can't be self harming.

Being suicidal is wanting to die,

They say.

But I don't want to die.

I just don't want to live.

I don't want to keep pushing on.

I don't wanna face tomorrow.

I don't want to wake up anymore.

But I don't want to die,

So I can't be suicidal.

Being bullied involves fists,

They say.

But I don't get into fights.

I get made fun of.

I constantly get told I'm not enough.

I have no friends.

I've heard so many degrading comments.

But fists don't come at me,

So I can't be getting bullied.

You just need to cheer up,

They say.

But I can't find anything worth cheering up for.

I hurt inside.

I am not wanted.

I can't feel anything.

I'm no longer human.

But all I need is to cheer up,

So why don't I?

You don't fit that description,

They say.

But I do, really.

I am depressed.

I do self harm.

I've been suicidal.

I am bullied

But I don't fit YOUR definition,

So I can't be.

But I am.

I'm not a typical set of symptoms.

I'm a person.

A person who is struggling.

All because they say

You cant be;

I don't see it.

But what do you see?

Because you certainly don't see me.

Notes:

Thank you for reading! If you related to anything I said or something hit you particularly hard please let me know! I'm here to talk if needed and I know sometimes all you need is the stranger on the internet listening to you rant. Your comments and kudos give me such joy so thank you lovelies!
