Chapter Text

Until that moment Kabru had found the day to be quite satisfying, he and Mithrun had made quite a bit of progress in their path during the day, and he had managed to convince the elf to stop and sleep a lot easier than usual.

He was almost about to fall asleep when Mithrun asked him a question. After going over the words of the question a few times Kabru decided he must have heard wrong, and in his most polite tone said:

“I'm sorry, could you repeat what you said?”

“I asked if you are in love with Laios Touden.” Mithrun said.

Kabru blinked. Okay, he'd heard it right the first time.

“I…what…that…that's an insane question. Why would you think of that?”

“You talk about him a lot. I wondered if that was an explanation for your verbosity on the subject.” Mithrun said.

“Well, he is relevant to our current situation.”

“Him and all the other members of his party, and yet he's the one you always bring up. As far as I know, fixation is usually a sign of romantic interest between humans.”

"This is ridiculous. I'm not in love with him. Frankly, I don't even like him. I just think about him sometimes because he's such an unusual person. All my life I've never met anyone like him. And I don't even talk about him that much."

I talk about him so little when you consider the amount of time I spend thinking about him.

"If you say so."

“Yes, that's what I say.”

"Right then." Mithrun said and closed his eyes as if satisfied with the answer, or at least disinterested.

Kabru on the other hand remained with his eyes open, staring at the ceiling and wondering if there was any possibility that Mithrun's question wasn't so insane after all.

Morning came with him growing more and more afraid that the answer was yes.
