That afternoon one of Masayoshi's fans stopped him asking for a picture while he and Goto were walking around the neighborhood.
This wasn't unusual, just as it wasn't unusual for this girl to start flirting with Masayoshi while he was clueless as to what was happening.
Also it wasn't unusual for this to make Goto feel a pang of jealousy that was immediately followed by a wave of guilt knowing that he had no right to feel those things, they weren't together like that by his own choice, so when the girl finally left he said:
"You should have asked for her number."
"Why?"
"She was pretty, and she was flirting with you. It would be good for you."
"I don't think she was flirting with me, she was just friendly and even if she was-"
"I'm not just talking about this specific girl. I think you should go out with girls, or guys, someone."
"I go out with you all the time."
"I'm talking about a romantic type of going out…I'm not ready and I don't think it's fair to keep you waiting for something that I'm not even sure will ever happen.”
“But I don't want to be with other people. I'm very happy with the way things are between us now.”
“So you don't want more? Kisses, holding hands, sex and everything?”
Masayoshi, as always, blushed bright red when Goto mentioned sex, but still looked him in the eyes and said:
“I do want those things, but I don't need them. But I... I need you in my life, whether as a friend or a boyfriend, or whatever. Whatever Goto-san can give me is more than enough to keep me happy for the rest of my life.”
Gotou wanted to kiss Masayoshi at that moment, he wanted it so much that he almost did. But he just called Masayoshi an idiot and ruffled his hair while the other boy smiled with his cheeks still very red. That was the most he could do for now. He wasn't ready for more.
But he really hoped that there would come a day when he would not hesitate, and he hoped that day would not take so long to happen.
